It pretty much played like a single player game and gave you 1000+ skills or something to dick around with. Uhm, GW1 singleplayer game? For every noteable mission (i.e. storyline quest) you needed a full group (depending on area up to 8 players), NPCs only worked for the normal quests. Sure, there were some farming builds like 55hp monk and such that worked solo for some of the stuff but everything important required a team. Well, at least until Nightfall messed it up and added heroes. That expansion should never have existed.

Yesterday I found a thief which I fought three times, losing twice and him running away the third (because he got caught in the Entangling Roots and I was pounding on him). I am not that familiar with the thief class since I've not tried it and haven't really read up on it, but as I understand it when they unstealth they have a 3 second cooldown before the next stealth, plenty of time to do something as a Ranger but as it turned out it wasn't for me. I've met quite a few thieves before, but nothing like this. He switched in and out of stealth with about a seconds visibility in between. After some googling I read something about the character model not getting rendered instantly after a destealth. He even stomped me before I could see him. Does this delayed vision exist, or was it just lag or something? Anyway my strategy was basically to wait for him to destealth and then immediately getting range between us and applying DPS. With what seemed like a really short time between stealths I didn't manage this at all. I've got a couple tools to buy time, the 5 on the SB and the Wolfs howl for 2 sec fear. I found it super difficult to hit with the howl seeing as it isn't instant and the thief being pretty fast. Any tips on what to do versus such a guy, or should I just flee?

You can always try to swap your signet for the signet of stone to cancel his burst. There's always the possibility of him outgearing you tho, not sure if it's a big problem in WvWvW.

My gear is pretty decent, I am only missing exotic armor pieces. Outgearing is a pretty big thing in WvW, but I am usually on the giving end so it doesn't really affect me that much. I ran the signet of stone before, but it didn't really make a difference since I can't utilize the "active signets also affects you" trait since I'm only running 20 in Marksmanship. At first I used the Muddy Terrain for a long while since it's awesome, but 10% movement speed helps more than one would think in WvW with chasing targets and travelling etc. With such a glasscannon build I get bursted down instantly sometimes which is a problem, but a problem I know of and simply accept as a flaw of my build. I'm not currently looking to modify my build (for better or for worse) to deal with this, I'm more interested in ways that I could combat a thief with very short windows of visibility. This particular thief bursted about 2/3rds of my health in one go and then downed me during the second stealth, or third in one case (which was probably just a misplay by him or something). EDIT: Regarding the graphical issue. Have you experienced it at all? EDIT: Upon further investigating, other people have reported almost permastealthed thieves in WvW too. It has to be a lag thing if it doesn't occur in sPvP.

Along with levels, sigils and runes provide a pretty significant advantage vs people who just socket everything with gems. Thanks to Rune of the Soldier, I can cleanse up to 6 conditions (and cleanse 4 conditions from nearby allies). Sigil of Bloodlust is damn good too. I run 10 points in +power/+cond dura and dumped the rest in +vit/+boon dura and +tough/+healing, but I hit like a truck thanks to the +250 power from the sigil. Shit's OP. It's pretty much FOTM for warriors who aren't stupid, lol.

I thought the levels were equalized so everybody would have the same base stats naked, no matter if you are a level 1 or 80 of whatever class. Equipping good gear still takes level requirement though. EDIT: Yeah traits of course. But still, gear is a big deal, superior runes are pretty good stuff.

I think you utility skills and elites are bigger than the gear. Having extra clones and blink and decoy is a big deal in WvW as mesmer if I didn't have those skills I would get face rolled

Some lowbies have more HP than I do and I'm specced+geared toughness and vitality. Doesn't seem to make a huge difference though, I completely smash anyone who isn't 80 in WvW.

But also, the game engine is very loose regarding which objects it actually draws and which not when there are more than like 50 objects around you. Especially in world pvp this will lead to enemies being drawn with a delay, or not at all. but against a thief as a ranger you want to be tank/condition build. power thief vs power ranger ( :O) is heavily in thief favor. thats just how it is, cant beat everyone.

I guess I'll have to try to avoid thieves for now. I've been saving up for a condition build for awhile, I can wait until then before taking down thieves. I appreciate the advice!
