I just really hope a-net puts updates with hard encounters for more than 5 players, with some tangible reward. I guess what I'm trying to say is that the fact you had to grind shadow res gear for instances was what made the game fun. The actual grind, acquiring the mats, was boring, and this is what people are criticizing and quite rightly, this is the stick in the carrot and stick analogy. Now guild wars 2 has managed to make this stick part fun and not a grind, but what it's failed to do is make the reward (which is hours of play = access to something or preparing you for some encounter) worthwhile, the carrots missing, or at least it's gone moldy.

Such a shame, why can't i have a game that's not a snooze-fest grind, but does reward dedication and hardwork with something other than slightly better looking armor for days of work. Guildwars 2 as a philosophy and design attitude is amazing and truly the best MMO in some ways, but by god does it miss hardcore endgame content. I don't understand why playing for a few days, and your rewarded by a lvl80, which is hard for a casual palyer, is not seen as carrot and stick, yet players wanting an epic raid or rewards from high level pvp is seen as wanting that "wow" grind back. ANet tried to make the leveling process to 80 also not a "grind." Each level takes roughly the same time per level, rather than it progressively taking longer and longer in classic MMOs. They also made every type of content in the game accessible to all players, not just those at max level. That's why leveling in GW2 doesn't really feel like a grind unless you make it so yourself. I hit max level on my main and am in no rush to hit max level on my alts. Also I would not get my hopes up about any raid type content. I don't think ANet is going to go that route, based on their history and interviews on the subject.

What makes this game unique when compared to other MMO's? This thread is basically 300pages of explaining why it's different. Theres also tons of reviews about it to get some information.

Its just to get into the mmorpg pvp, so I can evolve into a better player, and finally find a class that fits me. Well what kind of classes do you generally play? Tanky. In your face burst. DoTs? Although a lot of classes can be played multiple ways some obviously fit certain playstyles better than others.

I like bursty play, but I dont find it as usefull in structured pvp, since you are so squishy to other things. Dots Im not a big fan off because off condision removers etc, however I like unremoveble dots (feral wow background) and I like play that does damage when I want it to, like a Mage from wow.

Now guild wars 2 has managed to make this stick part fun and not a grind, but what it's failed to do is make the reward (which is hours of play = access to something or preparing you for some encounter) worthwhile, the carrots missing, or at least it's gone moldy. The carrot on a stick analogy is specifically with regards to knowingly doing boring tasks for a long period of time in hopes of getting the carrot that is just out of your reach (on the stick). That's why ANet has said they have designed the game to be enjoyable from level 1 to level 80 - so you are not forced into doing boring stuff just so you can hit 80 to experience the fun part of the game (aka WoW's design). Therefore hitting level 80 is not a carrot on a stick, at least when you come to the realization that this game is not like other MMOs out there. I think most people, such as yourself and a couple others who are arguing similar points of wanting more "end-game progression" are stuck in the WoW mindset that any MMO needs to offer end-game progression. MMOs do not need to be designed this way to be enjoyable. Guild Wars is meant to be a game where your skill is what wins in the end, not how much more time you've spent farming stuff in the game. Yes, I do agree, I do not play Guild Wars 2 as frequently now as I did the first few weeks as it came out. I just sign on for a couple hours every couple days to do whatever I want on whatever character I want without any concern for having to chase a carrot on a stick. I'm just doing what I find enjoyable in the game, and playing it when I actually feel like playing it. Otherwise, I can just spend my time doing anything else I find enjoyable at the time. As others have said as well, other MMOs keep their subscription base because of how easy it is to keep players with the carrot-on-a-stick model. Guild Wars 2 avoids that in all ways - including no subscription fees.

Im still on like level 45 story and I am still doing dungeons and WvW. Crafting I am on like leve 35 in one profession. I still have alot of stuff to do I don't even know where frostgorge is I just know a big dragon spawns there. Temples of Orr whats that? I have a ton to do still in this game.

Though I can understand hardcores might see a lack of PvE "endgame" content outside dungeon trawling. Still, feels like there's more post endgame here than most other MMOs at launch anyway.
