There's something special about hearing good news about gamers in the real world. In this day and age you don't have to look far to find articles and news that attempt to show a negative light on games, and the gamers themselves.
A group in LA called the "Gaming World Entertainment Network" (GWEN), Malibu Barbie, and "Gamers Giving Back" hosted an event in Guild Wars in an attempt to raise money for breast cancer research. They had no idea how much of a success the event would be, raising over $10,000, and reaching countless more minds and hearts.
Players in Guild Wars were asked to head to Lion's Arch in their best pink gear to show support for the cause. Raffles and Guild Wars 2 swag were given out as well, in the name of a good cause.
“To date, we have raised $10,916, smashing our expectations by far,” Malibu Barbie said, “In fact, this has been the most successful Pink Day in LA to date, and we owe that all to the Guild Wars community.”
It doesn't get much better than that. Let's hope the most sincere players are the ones fighting alongside us in Guild Wars 2, because it doesn't get any more honorable than fighting for and supporting what you feel is right.

Didn't they do this with Guild Wars 1 without microtransactions? I am asking because I have not yet played Guild Wars 1.
Yeah they did but it's a different ballgame I'd guess. Guild Wars 2 is of a bigger scale and MMOS have a far bigger player base than 6 years ago.
To keep up with the tons of other MMOs coming out next year alone I'm not surprised they are at least putting in some way to get more cash. Why not?
AFAIK GW2 is also meant to be a more open world rather than instanced world game, which costs more to operate than the instanced style they had in GW1
Honestly (in the true meaning of the word) - why have they chosen this "subscription" model? People are willing to pay monthly for MMO's - why wouldn't you take advantage of that fact and in return deliver a persistent world on smoothly running servers?
I just don't get what i will do in this game, on a daily basis. Sure, the public quest they demoed with the 60 players vs. massive dragon looked really cool, but i really have my doubts as to how well this works in actuality. I also think PvP will be terrible with the lag caused by too many calculations of trajectories for missiles, run & cast spells etc.
Would love for the game to be great though - no one will be happier to be proven wrong than yours truly. I guess all the new MMO releases have just left me disappointed, thus i've assumed a 'fear the worst' stance towards upcoming titles.
One-time-payment is Anet's trademark, removing this feature would be like making a mario game where you play mario without his mustache. Sure, people would play that, but old time players and trolls would annoy the shit out of the community saying how better the game was before and that the skill level needed to braid mustache hair was uncomparably higher to that of the scrubs that play the game today. Plus, pve is going to be completely for casuals. You won't find bigger retards than those in the GW2 pve areas anywhere, i promise.
Public quests work. They are taking WAR's public quest system and just porting into their game while fixing its flaws. Getting a max lvl pve char in gw2 will require you to get to lv 80, and public quests are more like open world dungeons, something that you take part in after you're done with an area and have picked up all the gear from it. There are still traditional quests and quest-givers, but the quests those npcs will give will vary like with daily repeatable quests in other games: if shit goes bad, you fix it. If shit goes well, you manage stuff.
PvP lag will be fine. The same projectile, trajectory and collision system was in GW1 aswell and pvp will be completely instanced. Note that glitching while double-tapping movement still happens hardcore in the alpha and since nobody in any gaming company has found a way to fix this it is more likely to stay in the game even after release. The run and cast gimmick is something that people always hated but in reality it is more something they have grown affectionated to. Smarter coding fixed most of the lag from something that was once considered impossible.
Same demo weve seen at Gamecon and Pax but videos of different stuff still coming out of PGW.
Shadow Behemoth fight: Looks like an awesome battle. And the best part? This is at level 13. In WoW the hardest thing I had to fight at level 13 was Hogger.
One of our members made an awesome update that I thought id share here with reek and other whove been following.
Lot of French here but more gameplay footage nonetheless: GW presentation part 1/2 (French commentary) GW presentation part 2/2 (French commentary)
By the way, did they say anything about the learning curve in GW2? Because in GW1 you had like 3 different learning curves basing on the campaign you start in (Prophecies being the slowest developing while in Factions you were thrown into deep water practically right off the bat). I'd be happy if they made it like Nightfall, which in my opinion had a nice balance between learning curve and game progression so that it didn't feel as slow as Prophecies and wasn't as frustrating for new people as Factions.
They are developing the game assuming you know basic controls from any fps/mmo. But they are not expecting you to know anything regarding strategies. Judging from the gameplay videos of starter areas, they definately give you a cinematic learning zone to start with, which is skippable as well.
Also. Our forums are pretty much finished, so im opening them up for the other TLers here interested in this great MMO.
We are supporting the TL community and also promoting it as well, so we ask you carry the rules and policies of this TL forum over to the other one, as we like to show proper respect. Its hard to put into words, but were sure you all understand.
No biggie. Its there for those interested in hanging out, and also there for those who just want information. We have everything possibly found on the internet compiled in one forum there for reading in your spare time.
I was on the fence about playing GW2 as i like to think i've left my MMO days behind me (wow burned me out from raiding hardcore and then watching the game go EZmode+wellfare epics.)
But GW2 always intrigued me. less grindy, nice game engine, and fun. Just hope the gameplay is up to par. Had a blast in the original GW before converting to wow.
Count me in if there's this many TL people joining i think i'll come out of retirement.
The lack of information comming from Anet recently is depressing. Been well over a month since we learned about the necro and at this pace we'll be lucky to see the game by next August.

I understand the sentinment, but I;d be very suprised to see this game go past February at latest.
Like many of the interviews stated, the game is at a finished point, theyre just adding pure content in the form of armor sets/weapons/quests. When they feel they have enough, it will be go time.

Go for it! Anet's concept is that they are trying to eliminate the epic grind to nowhere.

Well, thanks for posting here, otherwise I wouldn't be able to answer this!
If you want to join, don't be shy, just go ahead and create an account on the forums and say hi! (There is even a thread for that sorta thing!). That simple, if you want to post every so often or not, it doesn't matter (but it's good!), just remember us when GW2 comes around near release.
