I'd like to get a similar experience with a group of people who are good at the game and fun to play with.

A decent post about the PVE

Anyone can point me to the viable way to download EU client? (without access to beta)
I dont have access to beta yet, but my friend will lend me his account for this weekend. I heard it's around 20Gb... I don't want to spend whole weekend looking at download bar;P

He should have a download link when he logs into the site.

There is no healing or tanking, every class has a small self heal, damage is avoided through evading it

Ty Esoterikk, that was informative.
Are some classes favored for tanking then others ? like say the warrior may have a few more tanking abilities than say a ranger or elementalist ?
edit: Actually maybe the gaurdian is a better take because of the courage virtue(allows to block an attack every 30seconds)

Anyone have a beta key or 2?
I'm thinking my mom and I might can play this one as D3 was too intense for her......
PM obv if you have spare key(s)

If you wanted to though you could create your profession to give out mostly support abilities (heals, debuffs, buffs, etc) and fewer offensive spells right? Like if someone were to like that role of supporting and less about damage dealing. Maybe they don't do JUST heals since there's no healing class but there's still the ability to be the person in your 5 man doing most of the supporting right? That's what I gathered from some of the things i've seen/read.

Yea that's pretty much how I was playing my Engineer in one of the recent BWEs. Pretty much only focused on potions; buffing (and maybe debuffing enemies too, unless I'm getting mixed up with my Necro build) allies and providing support. This was in both WvW and PvE with some TL-EU guys.
I think it worked out pretty well. My only real complaint about it, though, is that nearly all of the Engi's support abilities are randomized. So, you might throw down a potion which has a chance to either, provide a massive armor increase, hp regen increase, or stealth them, for example. Absolutely amazing buffs, but most of the time, you only really want one of the effects, ie. the one that's appropriate to the situation.
For example, we were in some some sort of mini dungeon that was way too high level for us, and most of us were pretty beat up fighting this boss and needed to regen/wait for heal cooldowns. When the strongest one of us had the aggro, the rest of us retreated to heal up. Now, I could still provide good support with the potions to buy some time, but if I got unlucky and actually stealthed the person who was tanking it, then it would break aggro and switch targets. Which actually did happen once or twice. Very frustrating.

Lol that's funny. I'm still on the fence about it all and not sure if I should preorder it for the last BWE or not. Mostly b/c I work friday, have plans on saturday. So I don't know how much time I'll actually have to play it and get a feel for it.

I keep hearing people say how "underpowered" or "useless" the Thief is, especially in smaller scale PvP like competitive 5v5 and the like. Absolute bullshit is all I have to say. There has been in the history of MMO's maybe two truly underpowered classes, and one of those was in Warhammer Online (I think we all know what that was). The Thief is one of the best offensive supports in the game, and this really starts to shine in the 5v5 PvP area. Let me give an example:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/en/?fYAQNAoaVlUmSNXay5E/JA
I didn't even bother going into traits yet, just off of weapon skills alone I can tell you how incredibly strong this build will be in smaller scale PvP situations. In one fight I can, for THREE SEPARATE targets for 5-6 seconds apply:
-66% movement speed -66% skill recharge (I dont think I need to describe the strength of this) -30 Defense -50% Endurance Regeneration (I REALLY don't have to describe the strength of this on THREE people) -50% Fumble (miss chance)
If this is a single target or double target scenario, I could also theoretically chain it for 12-18 seconds since it's based off my next attacks. But let's look at what else I get, with just my shortbow:
-33% heal effectiveness in an AoE -Two single target blinds (signet + bow) -Spammable -50% movespeed
Oh, and my bows first skill coincidentally attacks 3 separate targets by bouncing off of them with each shot. Notice how this is all tying together here? I'm going to be testing this a bit this weekend, but if this works I could apply my poisons and then attack once and their entire team gets fucked up beyond belief. And even if it doesnt work (though I'm pretty sure it does), I can not stress the strength of this. And that's not even getting into my dagger skills, where my main dagger skill gives me a spammable:
-50% movement speed debuff -50% endurance regeneration debuff
Along with a single target blind, something to make sure no one escapes (Heartseeker), oh and look at that --- ANOTHER AoE blind.
This kind of utility is going to be absolutely hilarious in PvP and I personally can't wait to use it with some of my friends. Remember, there is no such thing as an underpowered class in an MMO as far as I'm concerned because only in extreme cases is it true. It's just people don't know how to play them in certain ways. I've said since the beginning Thief is without a doubt, maybe tied with Engineer, the best offensive support in the game. Guardian takes best defensive support of course. But whenever I bring this up people just gloss it over and say how great the Ranger is, or how great the Warrior is, or the Guardian.
This has been your random theorycrafting moment presented by yours truly because I got tired of seeing people post in various places of how much they think the Thief sucked and I wanted to type something up

Thief with the right build also has one of the highest burst damage in the game that comes out of stealth and ends in stealth at range while the enemy is turned stone, which I believe you can't break with anything at this point.
Too early in the development to call any class OP or UP, we simply haven't played enough, builds haven't been created, synergies researched.

Ok, so if I preorder GW2 today do you think I'd still get into the BWE3 this weekend? I know I'm cutting it super close and all but I've been on the fence for quite awhile and I think I'm ready to take that leap and try it out. If I can't get in this weekend w/ a pre order I'll prob wait to see what comes of the last BWE from people and then determine if I want to preorder for the 3 day headstart or not.
|
I pre-ordered last night and got invited to the weekend. I believe the slots are unlimited this time.
|
They are probably up much closer to launch capacity on their servers now for this weekend so I imagine they must be feeling much more confident in the servers remaining stable throughout the weekend.

I think you could buy it on Sunday and still play the rest of the beta as far as invites go. The bigger problem is the client, start to download it as soon as you can because it tooks a hell amount of time.

It's the last beta test before launch, everyone (who pre-ordered) is welcome.

On July 19 2012 08:22 fR.INDI wrote:Can someone tell me if there are normal Healing or Tanking Classes ?? i was reading the gw2 facts but thats brought me nothing Or its more than some classes are Hybrid classes ??? All of the classes in GW2 are what most MMOs would call hybrids. Each have builds that enable them to tank or support, as well as DPS. In GW2, there are no direct heals where you target someone, hit the skill button, and send a heal their way. The closest you get to one of those are your own self heal,
Some classes lend themselves more to one role or the other, but they definitely aren't the only classes that can do well in those roles.
The Guardian wears heavy armor and has a lot of abilities that remove negative conditions or heal nearby teammates, so they seem to naturally be supports and tanks, but there are some really good damage dealing builds that make them be able to just focus on taking people out.

Received a key from PCGamer, got really excited. Then got greeted by a message, that my key is already in use
