It's a fully fledged 2012 MMO. Would be a little naive to expect anything less

My full install is sitting pretty at 13.9 GB. Only took 1-2 hours! Goes fast when you're d/ling it at 2+ mb/s

According to the polls I saw engineer was the least popular class out of them all, is there a reason for that? Does the damage suck, crappy survivability, or just not very fun to play? I'm not particularly a fan of immobile turret classes, are they really reliant on them? And if anyone had some brief experience with thief/ranger and could share what they liked/disliked that would be cool too
Played a thief about 50% of the time (other 50% being mesmer) Most people seem to recommend some kind of poison spam build but I focused on more of a sustained combat build so my opinion might be different from others.
Advantages: - Fun unique style of gameplay with more freedom due to initiative mechanic - Stealth is cool - Initiative regens slowly without the faster initiative in stealth trait (where it comes back REALLY fast, like 1.5 a second) - Strongest combat "control" in game due to stealth (ability to disengage at will) - Can stay stealth for a long time (30s~, tested by me) - Steal is a good profession mechanic despite what other people say due to it giving you a good item to use (most of the time) - I'll add more later if I can remember it lol
Disadvantages: - Skillspam = GG - CANNOT directly engage other professions head on (HAS to abuse stealth to weave in and out of combat) - Low base hp, I traited toward a more defensive style and had a 23~k hp pool while my friend (who was using a glass cannon elementalist build) has around 18~k - Low weapon count (sword is apparently pretty bad and dagger/dagger is what you'll be using for direct combat quite a bit (due to it mostly outshining other weapon sets)
Also Engineer hits REALLY hard apperntly
That's great, thanks. I heard there weren't too many gap closers at the moment so if other classes are paying attention they just keep the thief at range forever in PvP, so they mostly rely on ranged attacks and stuns etc.
Shortbow is REALLY good. Kitting Thieves is not as effective as in other MMO.

this. i cannot help but feel this way. peeing my pants since i heard gw2 was coming. not impressed even though I wanted to fall head over heels for this baby. but for casuals this is can be a good game. I was just hoping i would be addicted to this game like a crack head on coke.
Hey guys just wondering have you all seen this? I know this is the TL(Team Legacy) thread, just found this pretty interesting. There's also a list of guilds/forums joining which server floating around on the interwebz which i lost the link for now
EDIT: Decide to elaborate on this thing.
From what I understand, Einsof is rolling on CD along with TL/TLoW and a bunch of oceanic forums/guilds(Im sorry but i lost the source link, at work right now).
1) This means that Crystal Desert is going to be one of the hardest servers to crack due to the presence of both US & Oceanic influences. There's no so called down-time for the other servers to exploit.
2) Because of point 1, i would say the existence of down-time for the servers that are heavily based in US should be a detriment. The creation of that Titan Alliance guarantees that within a server, there's always active guilds at all times. This would make the server extremely hard nut to crack, especially defensively where a smaller number always have an defender advantage due to walls/defense equipment.
I would say Balanced Servers in terms of population active at all hours will be ruling the WvWvW server scene.
on a fun note: rumor has it that Sea of Sorrows will have the most amount of Oceanic people. Apparently all the pinoys(philipines) players will be rolling there, as well as many others due to the word "SEA (Southeast Asia)" being in the server name. And it so happens SoS are one of the better known servers out there.
Not sure if that rumor is true, i guess we will find out this BWE
I'm pumped for Guild Wars 2 to come out, but I recently moved to norway until the spring/summer of 2013 and don't have my desktop with me. I'll have to buy a new laptop and settle for a fast internet connection ( in Gjovik atm; there are some good connections but expensive to install etc.). So if I decide to get the game I'll probably order for it online around the 25th of august. That being said until then I'm not playing anything and am looking to get informed on Guild Wars 2 and how to try and get myself started on the game.
Quick questions: 1. I understand it's not WoW-like. There is a cap to farm/grind/pve content and you don't have to play a lot of it to have the BiS items. Is that right or not? 2. Could you link me to a quick guide on how to started? 3. Is it worth it to prepurchase just for some of the perks ( I'd say not ) 4. 30MB DL/20MB UP internet connection will run fine?
Thank you for your time.
Just saying that on arenanet's site it says this
What is your refund policy? If you pre-purchased Guild Wars 2 from buy.guildwars2.com and would like a refund prior to the game's release, please contact Customer Support. Source
So I guess you could pre-purchase for the beta weekend and then get a refund if you don't like it and if you end up really liking it you could get the 3 day early start thing
Man, you can get a refund? Thanks for pointing this out, I might very well take them up on that since GW2 didn't live up to the hype for me at all.
Hey guys! Man it's been too long. My wife recently announced I have a little one on the way, and things got crazy as you can imagine
As the OP here and owner of TL, I wanted to jump in and give a few notes.
1. Team Liquid is still the best source of news anywhere on the internet. I'm more likely to hear the latest news from the "General forum" more than CNN.com, and get better feedback/comments as well.
2. Guild Wars 2 is awesome. You already knew that.
4. Titan Alliance is generally great. They are one of the up and coming new alliances attempting to overthrow Ascension, and we welcome the competition.
5. Aside from alliances/WvW, we have been putting a strong focus on our structured PvP teams as well. Aside from our team announced a few months back, we recently acquired a group of GW1 players who will be representing TL @ Gamescom and in-game GW2 tournaments.
That roster (Team 2): Sheepy Smoki Wanbe Rotten Fretty
6. Once upon a time, we created a podcast for the TL guildies, now it's the second highest rated podcast on itunes. If you haven't checked it out, please do www.talesoftyria.com
Honestly going stir crazy waiting for this game. Planning on streaming it almost daily and hopefully getting in some major PvP. What's everyone doing in the meantime? I've been playing some eve online and watching Gw2 youtube videos.

Yea most aussies have been rolling on that server for the last 2 weekends. Don't expect that to change at launch or this weekend.
Just to clarify, are they wiping the existing beta chars before this Weekend or just before early access?
Hello everyone, I bought the game and already played one BWE and 2 stress tests. I want to convince a friend to buy the game but I wasn't able to get a beta key for the 20-22 weekend.
I really dislike begging for a beta key but I really want him to try it out, he was a huge DAoC fan and I'm sure he'll love it. So if you have a spare key you don't need please share it with me. It will be put to good use.

everything will be wiped before this BWE. Everything will be wiped after this BWE too, but if you buy gems those gems will be credited over to live release.
If someone has a spare key, I'd love to take one I didn't prepurchase the game because i wanted to see if they could improve the performance. on the first beta weekend the game ran poorly on my PC

Okay Im sort of on the fence about the endgame.. getting there I'm sure will be a fun adventure but I have a troubling feeling that things might get stale at the end for 2 reasons: 1 Since the only real rewards in continuing are skill points and legendary weapons(which I don't know how much I care for something that will only improve my characters appearance..lame) and 2. would have to be the fact that there is no only end game content where i will only experience it in the end of the game. This could be a toss up for a lot of people because some people don't want to have to wait until lvl 80 to experience a part of the game but me on the other hand want something to look forward to when getting to lvl 80 besides an extra skill point so i feel it will get stale because at lvl 80 im doing the same things i did the entire game.
I might be missing something here but If i'am PLEASE correct me lol
You missing that there are lvl 80 only areas and lvl 80 only dungeons. That is content you will experience at max level. There are also a lot of weapons and equip that is only avaiable off lvl 80 areas: I think (not sure here) these are the only items with max stats? Also the system that in the end equip will only change your appearance is a gw mark. You have to like or not, it's you decision, but a lot of poeple like it (I for myself think this system is brilliant as I loved it in GW). Also: You might not like this statement, but GW2 is not a general MMO. Your achievement you want to work for might not seem so great if you compare them to other MMO's rewards. You have to change your mind or you will be extremly disappointed by GW2. GW2 is game about achieving fun while playing it and not so much achieving fun in getting awesome stuff. GW2 ist more of a world to explore and get into than a simple MMORPG that has equip as a main factor. I don't want to convince anyone that they have to like this system but they have to understand that the games world need something like this because not everyone likes the same system in each game. If it's not yours, it is sad. I love the way GW2 goes and improves (not in every part for sure, there are losses too) GW. In the end it's your decision to change your mind, adapt and learn to love the GW2 world or to go back to your known systems and love them just as much.

If you watched the video posted before you would know, that these events in the 1-30 zones aren't very influent. They said they kept it down because it would cause trouble in new players heads (yes I hate this as much as you do). But from there on there will be lots of eventchains that really cover and change great parts of the world. Reknown hearts will be completely deleted in later zones as far as I understood and event chain will become really complicated and crosslinked.
Well that makes me a little more optimistic about end game pve
On a side note : Has anyome formed a NA guild that does both pve and pvp but is more focused on PVP and has room for casuals? I've done a lot of organized raids and although I know i wont get the same experience with GW2. I'd like to get a similar experience with a group of people who are good at the game and fun to play with.
