Wow...this game did not last long. Only 5 months ...EME is merging the servers on 18 September down to basically 1 PvP server (down from 4) and 1 PvE server (down from 6) and keeping the RP the same. 11 servers down to 3, that's rough.
I thought it had an amazing combat system, graphics and art style. It's a real shame there was literally no game content or design to support it. It had so much potential.
Game had potential but no end game content to carry the potential. When you are able to complete all end game content within 3 weeks of starting the game along with nothing but grinding 3 dungeons on a 6h cooldown chances are you'll quit sooner or later too. And literally no 'rewards' for pvp until the recent patch but everyone has left already.
The combat system is great, lots of action and whatnot. What killed it for me was that by lvl30~ I was completely bored of all the quests and everything aside from the fighting, which is really quite a shame because it was incredible fun while it lasted.
i just came back from a trip from taiwan and heard about this. the game is still fairly well advertised there, i saw a decent amount of tv commercials as well as posters on the subway and in popular shopping areas for young people which made me want to try the free demo thing. is the game still as bad as the last few pages have been saying?
I played KR retail up to level 42/43, slayer, and I just ordered a retail box to get back into it and play the NA retail while I wait for FFXIV 2.0. There are a lot of caveats with the game, but the gameplay itself is still unparalleled in my opinion -- though I haven't tried any of the recent hyped Korean MMORPGs. I'm looking forward to enjoying at least a couple of months with the game.
Many people have pointed out what TERA does wrong: 1) Follows bland quest progression; leveling framework is stuck in copycat mode 2) Very slow content updates, which negatively affects PvE and PvP (still just one battleground for NA, 3v3 arena coming soonish) 3) Nothing to do for large-scale groups other than GvG 4) Points 2&3 lead to a deadish community
What TERA does right, and no one else has really done right since TERA's release (from my perspective): 1) High skill-ceiling based on action combat and fighting game-style move canceling (Dragon Nest is a f2p TERA-clone but from what I've played, they got the tactile feel completely wrong). 2) Best-in-class customer service for NA retail. Originally I had preordered NA retail, but decided that I didn't have enough time to play it. I emailed their customer service and got a prompt refund along with continued closed beta access and none of that painful used-car-salesman attitude. Just: "We're sorry you want your money back; here's your money, and we hope you decide to return at some point in time."
Well the a few month back the PvP was amazing. The community was pretty good and cool and there is server competition, rivals and drama etc etc. After all the pvp server merged, the game got pretty interesting as well an the world was actually alive. I have had some of the most memorable time pvping in this game than in the 4 years I spent playing WoW. Of course this is mainly attributed to my guild Man Up who were probably the most powerful guild for a long time on the server of Valley of the titan and when the server merge they still were the most powerful. So powerful that an entire server alliance had to be forged to defeat them since we were pretty much being dicks and waring everyone at nexus. Here is a video of a day server allaince war against us when we were still active (It is a 25:50 min video so skip to the end when they all grouped up to attack us. Roughly around 50 vs 120 people)
I am not saying OMG this game is better then WoW or anything but this game can be very fun if you find people and good connection in game. Although I am not sure how it is currently since many many people has quit and the community is kinda died from what I been hearing. Although last I play it was pretty much still alive but that was in october.
January 10, 2013 patch will introduce new content, but also on that day, the business model changes in Asia.
Korean TERA servers will see F2P action on January 10th, with Japanese servers heading that way in mid-February. NA Servers are currently remaining P2P subscription based.
