The rpg element died for me a while ago from bioware, if you go looking for a an action-rpg game, DA can be great.

The DLC is just getting way out of hand. Maybe I'll just reinstall Kotor1 and play it thru as dark side and get my RPG fix from that. Kotor1 was soooo good... Even Kotor2 was great as far as it went (sigh). ... Why does everything have to turn into an arcade action fighter or a MMO?

Tbh DA:O combat was just too slow, clumsy and without style most of the times. About rpg elements and how hard overall is, that's something gonna find out in full game. It's not that the first game was that tactical or hard anyway even in nightmare mode.

Guess I'll give that demo a try to see how well my expectations for storytelling and tactical combat will be met.

I went back and tried the demo again as a female Hawke mage. It felt more familiar this time around so I expect I'll eventually get used to the super fast paced combat. Some things do feel weird though, when you start combat, the enemies just zip across the screen like lightning bolts, it makes it really hard to target area spells. Over-all though, it was entertaining and decently challenging for a normal difficulty. I personally completed Dragon age origins several times on nightmare; each time using a different group build to increase the challenge. I expect that nightmare DA2 will be of a higher difficulty. A few other things that bothered me though; mobs have a ton of health and you beat on them like loot pinata. The paraphrasing dialogue wheel also drives me insane. Sometimes the option you get don't even make sense as answers until Hawke says them outloud. I wish they would just give us the full text ![]()

No fan of that. | ||

I'm guessing Dragon Age 3 will be a medieval FPS with one or two RPG elements. All the dialog will be removed completely and will now be replaced by even more cutscenes. You will no longer be able to control your companions at all, them always being on autopilot. The main city will consist of one small area with two buildings you can enter. It really is sad but I don't think an RPG on the same level as Baldurs gate 1-2, Fallout 1-2 or Planescape: Torment will ever be made again ![]()

I guess that, even after playing the demo, I'm still not any closer to seeing how that aspect of the game will be handled. However, the controls feel really smooth and the battle system is decent, so overall I'm looking forward to this.

No fan of that. bioware is getting real lazy with the dialogue wheel =\...back in KOTOR u had 4-5 choices for basically every dialogue now its three with top good, mid neutral and bottom evil always in that order. Why even have a dialogue wheel if its gonna be that boring?

Why even have a dialogue wheel if its gonna be that boring? Agreed. It takes some skill I guess to do it without it being too obvious, but often in the past even with ME they manage to give you a fair selection of responses even if the actual resulting dailogue "curves back" to the main conversation "trunk" fairly quickly. Even if the small variations in conversation don't have a major or any effect on the plot, they definitely do help the player feel like their character is "their character". I can understand they don't want the game to be toooo verbose, fair enough. But a little conversational color adds a lot imo.

sigh. Bioware. Everything was just so bad. Not looking like a buy, DA:O was fun while it lasted :/. It really is sad but I don't think an RPG on the same level as Baldurs gate 1-2, Fallout 1-2 or Planescape: Torment will ever be made again http://www.thewitcher.com/ Hope!. Well, that combats a bit shady, but the rest is top notch. Its very very different from the "classics" in terms of style, but in terms of design, I'd say it rivals them.

I have a more then decent computer (i7 930@ 3.8, 6 gb ddr3 @1600 and an overclocked gt480) and everything seemed choppy somehow. I don't care so much because its more of a story/gameplay oriented type of game but still I think it's quite sad that they did not bother updating the graphics from DA:O... I did enjoy the new combat style though, and the new character progression system seems fine. Only criticism here is that they locked the camera on the character you are controlling... for which I see no logical reason. Its not a big deal for warriors/rogues but it makes it much more painful to ''aim'' with a mage's AOE spells...
