Very bad game-flow.

Anyone knows when is the exact time for the release of the demo?

Holy fuck really? Is that what you have come to Bioware? You're all turning this into a fucking cash cow. I can't wait for Dragon Age 3: Get Mater Chief skin if you pre order 2 years early!

I'll just copy what I've written in the Witcher 2 thread:
Everything I've seen or heard about the upcoming DA2 made me realize how crappy the game will most likely be. I can only hope it will somehow improve on some of the shortcomings of the first Dragon Age the kind people at tl.net listed earlier. I was hoping for a "spiritual successor" to the Baldur's Gate franchise, what I got was the complete opposite - all the meanigful elements of BG2 removed or significantly dumbed down - the story, the characters (antagonists mostly), the quests, the inventory system, the items, the classes, the races, the monsters, the magic system (all 5 of them) - all falling short of my expectations.
I've always taken a neutral stance towards consoles - they are great in their own way, console games are extremely fun. What I don't like is *every* game out there aspiring to be a console game. Developers are not combining elements from PC games and console games, they are just making console games per se and then porting them to PC. Some of these ports are great, most, however, are not good at all. I love the PC games because they are complex, more mature and I'm treated seriously, not like an idiot. I really hope another studio like Blizzard will arise and start utilizing the vast potential of the PC rather than take the easy way and make an uninteresting clone.
And I fucking hate the DLC system in modern games. It's so moronic! Not only do most DLC's wreck the balance of the game, destroy the 4th wall (impossible to become infatuated with the game world), poorly written, poorly designed, and most of the time NOT WORTH IT. The way they advertised their DLC's in the first DA (NPC's in the game advertising a DLC, come on!) was just appaling, it probably won't be improved upon in any way whatsover - on the contrary!.

I remember the days when developers were cramming every possible story-line they could into a game before the execs shut it down and forced them to release the damn thing. And they did that because they fucking loved the game they were making and wanted it to be the absolute best thing ever. They also worried about how a storyline might mess up the flow or feel, and would often leave huge chunks out because it just didn't make the game perfect. They cared back then. They wanted to release something magical.
Nowadays, developers have enough time and money to come up with lots of extra missions, quests, items, characters, etc then hold them back from a game because they want the game to be a watered down piece of shit that's just barely good enough to convince you to buy all the extra dogshit they're offering.
Also, because of this strategy, they now create games with stories that are modular pieces of shit, so you can just tack on lots of DLC and extra characters with absolutely zero effect on the main story line. Nice to know that you can add entirely new people and places to a world without having any effect. Makes it all seem so meaningful.

So true. How come they have a dozen DLC"s ready before the game even went gold? How can anyone get away with selling an unpolished, incomplete, unfinished product? The industry is taking a turn for the worse.

I loved Dragon Age: Origins a great deal despite its flaws, and as a Flash game developer myself I enjoyed Dragon Age Journeys too. With that said, every - literally every - piece of promotional material I've seen, read, or heard about Dragon Age 2 has made the game look worse than its predecessor.
Yet, when Amazon offered the Signature Edition pre-order for only $40 I jumped on it anyway, but I'm extremely anxious about how badly Dragon Age 2 is likely to turn out. I suppose the demo tomorrow will dictate whether or not many, many pre-orders will be cancelled.

I played the original BGs so I'm used to pausing the game and issuing commands. Some spells/talents/specializations/whatever are also way more powerful than others. Multiple mages make the game easier. By the time of the expansion, just about every class is overpowered on nightmare.

Evra's Might Evra's Trophy Belt Air of Confidence Ivo Family Crest Dura's Blue Flame
I understand why they are doing it but it is getting a bit ridiculous now. Every subsequent game Bioware has released has had more dlc. Still, I'm waiting on the demo before I make a judgement on whether the game is good or not. They haven't disappointed me so far when it come to game quality and they must be pretty confident considering the press for the demo.

LOL. I like Ubisoft's strategy with AC2.5 better though. Let's release it 6 months after the initial console release.
I REALLY HOPE that they eliminate the floating weapons on back and introduce actual SHEATHS for the weapons. Because seriously, it's ridiculous for my staff to be floating on my back. It's kind of dumb.

Correct! Downloading it right now!

I have faith that I will enjoy this as much as I have the average previous bioware games. It won't be a KOTOR 1, jade empire, or ME2, but it'll be a good enjoyable playthrough, at least that's my hope.
As I believe PCgamer put it, "Not the best story, but the best storytelling" which is entirely what Bioware games are about for me.

I cant imagine how anyone could play through DA without two healers. I never could, because the alternative is healing potions and they cost too much to be able to afford any good items later on. This has made the game kinda hard for me ... managing the mana of the healers and their cooldowns.

All those promo-items are just insane. RPG nowadays are basically about collecting awesome l00t and seducing alien chicks.
Well, maybe The Witcher 2 will actually be any good

Any thoughts on the demo so far? I will play it this weekend, but how is the gameplay in this installment?

Beautifully written :D
DA2 seems like a rushed game to me. I hope the reason they turn every one of their game series into "cinematic experiences" is because they have a real, challenging and tactical RPG being worked on behind the scenes.

Downloading Demo right now.
Any I can only agree with most of the posts here. This DLC-crap is driving me nuts. I hope the game itself will still be good, because I did enjoy Origins despite it's flaws. But I also made the mistake of buying DLC for Origins and as it turns out, that was a horrible decision. Piecec of quests with some special items are all you get for it and the developers fail horribly in trying to integrate these quests into the actual storyline. It takes away all the magic. Apart from that, the game itself could turn out well, I don't want to judge it prematurely. I might write a short feedback on the Demo after I played it, have to see when and whether I got time...
