Quick question to those tankers who have tier 10 vehicles in their garages: What motivates you to roll out in them? Why do you drive your tier 10s?
I am asking because I have the feeling that once I have invested all the time and all the credits it takes to get up to tier 10 I wont be driving the tank much at all. After reaching the next step in the tech tree I lose interest in the previous tank really quickly - even the good / fun ones. Whenever I went back to playing an already elited tank it was either to make money or to train up a crew for the next tank. Both don't really apply to tier 10s. So, there is always going to be a tank around where I can "make progress" by playing it and I think that would lead to me neglecting my tier 10 tank(s).
So, is there anything that driving tier 10 tanks gives you that other tanks don't have?

Nothing. I don't. Even with premium, they're kinda hard to sustain. Especially my "T10" arty (T92), a death comes at 32k repairs and 2,5k per shot, even a win barely lets me break even.
At least for me, T10s are mostly for CWs. The highest tanks i use in pubs are T9s, for fun. Other than that, it's just grinding through all tiers and nations.

Well, I don't have a T10, but a few points: What tier at you at? I ask this because, I have reached high T7, and it's at a point where I no longer get the "Higher is more fun" I enjoy different tiers for different reasons. Perhaps this will happen to you?
My own question: If you queue as a T10, do you normally end up in games with mostly T10's, or is there one or 2 in a game and you are at the top of the pile?

Iirc, i never had a match with mostly T10. I think the highest amount of T10s i saw in a game was 6 or 7, rest was T9s and 8s.
Edit: tier10s (heavies) have a battletier of 10 to 12, tier9s (heavies) have a battletier of 9 to 11, tier 8s (heavies) have a battletier of 8-10. That should give you an idea how matches in T10 tanks look.

Finally got my top gun on my T-34-85. It's insane how much better it is than the other guns I have available.
Makes me wonder, why design this like this? A single upgrade with no alternative takes me from not being able to penetrate T8 tank at all to now being able to pierce the sides with regularity?
Why are stock tanks so bad and upgraded tanks so much better? Is it to discourage people from moving up in tiers? Seems like a dumb design to me.

I like the fact that the upgrades are so good that it makes the grind rewarding, but I wish it were smoothed out a little, i.e. stepping stones rather than a sawtooth. Fully upgraded tanks are frequently better than their next tier successors because of the jump in battle tier that accompanies a new tank. It's a bit silly and leads to hundreds of miserable games in the upper tiers. It may simply be a Buy Gold -> Free XP bait =/

I actually like it. Otherwise you would need to restrict tiers in games to their respective tiers only. Now, a fully upgraded T-34-85 can beat a stock T-43. If the stock T-43 already would be better than the T-34-85, it would be completely useless in (lets say) T6-T7 battles. Or you would need to change matchmaking and give every single configuration of tanks a specific matchmaking value.
It's fine as it is, it's a painful grind at start (on most, but not all tanks, though), and fun at the end. It also gives you the option to stay a while on your elited tank to speed up crew-XP instead of just jumping to the next one. Which you would basically have to do as soon as you unlock the next one if it's better right away.
Also, of course, it's to promote their premium service. It is (or was, depends on how you want to look at it) a free to play game. They're not good samaritans though, they need to pay bills n stuff as well. That's why in the past alot of the new tanks/nations were pretty OP at some point, only to be nerfed (SU100M best example) again.
It's fine though, at least to me. And it adds a bit of "realism", because you do not only go through tiers, but also "timezones". The T-34-85 basically is the "real T-43". The T-43 was cancelled because of the T-34-85, it's hard to explain in english without confusing myself right now ._.
WoT isn't historically correct, but at least some historical accuracy should be maintained.

So I'm finally starting to get a couple crews to 100%. However, I really don't know what perks, etc. to invest in... Does anyone mind doing a brief overview of 100% crew skills/perks, what to aim for, what changes, what to invest in, anything like that? I hear about Sixth Sense, but beyond that I have no idea what to do, except that people always talk about Repair and Brothers In Arms, and I'm not sure exactly how each of these work or what to do really... I've tried Googling around but things are a bit scattered, and vary greatly depending on tank type (I've specifically concerned with meds/heavies)...
Thanks in advance!

I just had the great honour and pleasure of playing 4 hours of WoT with one of my favourite sc2 personalities, RotterdaM!

Played a bucketload of games, went around 55% or so.

For heavies repair is really good. It's important to note that some perks take effect immediately, and get better as you level up the skill, while other perks don't take effect until you get them to 100%. Sixth Sense (perk for the commander that notifies you when you're spotted) is one of the latter, so what you want to do is train a perk that is actually useful while you're training it, then once it reaches 100% use 200 gold to "drop" the perk (which then lets you reinvest the points into any other skill of your choosing). Brothers in Arms is another of these skills, except it doesn't come in to effect until all crew members have it at 100%. Brothers in Arms gives all crew members a bonus in their respective specializations.
I'm a big fan of getting Sixth Sense on all tanks, including heavies. It lets you not only know when you have to duck back into cover, but when you don't have to duck back into cover. Repair is big on mediums and heavies, while camo and sixth sense are a big deal on SPGs, TDs, and scouts.

I've been watching a lot of streams (specifically QuickyBaby) and feel like I'd prefer to have it on everything, even heavies. However, I guess although it's "boring", I should probably just get repair on all of my guys first lol. I've seen how powerful it can be.

There's a special going on right now where if you get top 50 in a single game's experience, you get gold (premium tanks for the first 3).
I'll be trying my luck with a BDR G1B. Already tried the tank out, and these are my thoughts:
1) The gun is very good. 240 alpha 1 shots tier 3s and is enough to put a scare on a tier V medium 2) Armor is kinda bad. Don't drive up to the enemy expecting to bounce shots (i even got penned by a Pz38NA, three times in a row) 3) Whatever you do, don't expose side armor. Your engine hitbox is huuuuuuge and you'll take hits that knock it out even from 75mm guns. 4) Tank is kinda slow. It can keep 30 km/h on flat ground at best. 5) Its size is very big. If you add that, the slowness and the low armor, you end up with a tank that is very vulnerable to arty. Keep in arty cover and if you have to traverse in the open, make sure you're not lit. 6) Accuracy isn't the worst but you definitely can't snipe well. Medium range fire support works.
I hope this helps for anyone who wants to grind through this tank. It'll be better once gold derps are out next patch. Also wish me luck on the special!
P.S.: Sorry for double post: the posts are kinda not the same topic and i had already posted this when i did the other

As an owner of a T110E5, E-100, Batchat; and ex-owner of IS-7:
1) I keep my 10s for Clan Wars. They're always needed. Clan Wars is a good experience because you have a team who can listen to you and you can coordinate. This is especially good considering the lack of communication in pubs (i blame american culture ).
2) They're fun to play! You're always on top and if you have a tier 10 platoon of 3, you can rock pretty hard. They are mad damage farmers if you play them correctly.
3) If you only play to progress, there is nothing wrong with selling a tier 10 and gunning for the next one. Just remember to keep the crew because you might want to rebuy it.

Finally i got the ID10T-gun on my T-44 now i can pen tier 8 stuff from the side. So happy...Fuck stock tanks. On the other hand, palyed a lot of Tier 5 and Ter 6 with my friends this weekend and it's really fun to slaughter everything with my finetuned experienced killing machines like the T-150 and the KV-1 :D

any idea how much of a credit-making boost tanks are gonna get in 8.6?

That's grossly inaccurate. It only applies to non-premium heavy tanks and the matches are ranked per heavy tank. Experience boni of premium account or first victory per day do not apply. To earn the premium tanks you need to score in more tanks than your competitors.

Okay, that patch was retarded. I don't know if it was supposed to buff arty, but that stuff isn't funny. Yeah, maybe there was a slight nerf in RoF and aimtime and stuff, but seriously, Hummel in matches with T-34, Type T-34 and KV1 being top dogs? Almost pinpoint accuracy? A standing tank is 100% dead in low tier matches with "high tier arties" thrown in there oO
edit: just to prevent blabbering, ->i<- was driving the Hummel.

edit: just to prevent blabbering, ->i<- was driving the Hummel. Yeah this really confused me. I haven't played any 8.6 yet but I've watched previews and some post-patch play. They "nerfed" (barely) aim time and reload time, but then gave arty regular matchmaking, which is an INCREDIBLE buff. Absolutely incredible. I don't understand the justification. The nerfs certainly do not make up for that change. I'm just baffled. Going to be really interesting for the next couple weeks...
T5 arties being in the middle of T5 games gives me the shivers.
Edit: Watching a few streams this morning, seems like the accuracy buff to all non-SPG tanks is enormous too. Russian derps are runnin wild. Almost every shot from friend or foe seems to land. Damn.
Edit^2: So, many rounds, even with huge guns, are going dead center of the aiming reticle. Consistently. At first it seemed flukey but after many dozens of shots it's pretty crazy... Like right down the crosshairs, at any range. Highly effective.
What is this patch...

Played my T7(now) arty and it sucks to be honest. Dunno, but the accuracy is horrible. Got matched with Stugs and whatnot but couldn't destroy them even though they didn't move. What a joke... The graphic update is kinda weird. Looks the same but like minus 10 fps, even had a lag spike in my first 8.6 game.

Before complaining, could you test the new super-heavy spall liners?
For heavy tanks of more than 70 tons a super-heavy spall liner has been added with an additional absorption coefficient of 50% Could be pretty op.
For the record, this applies to Jagdtiger, FV215b, E-75 and VK 45.02 (P) and successors. I'm not sure about the IS-7 though.
New accuracy model could bring AP ammo on SPGs into play.
Still have to test 0.86.
Suspension now also counts as spaced armour Does this mean, no more absorbing tracks like on IS-6?
