What do you mean by good tank? There are 3 big game modes with different kind of tanks needed. For randoms you can pick whatever tank you deem fun and roll the noobs, For clanwars you'll need certain tier 10 tanks (multiple if you want to be in a real clan) that can take around 1-3k games each, depending on your skill and on having a premium account. For esl/tank companies there are multiple good tanks even on the lower tiers. I think you should give it a try, even at start this game can be very fun and addictive. It's a bit like counter-strike meets wow, lot of map based strategy involved with a "class" system and a ton of variables, rng.

It depends on what type of tank you decide to play. I recommend just trying out each tank class for a bit and deciding 1 or 2 trees to go down. I'm available to answer any questions you may have. Disclaimer: I'm pretty much average at this game, but I understand how it works.

Damn is it fun to blast people with the bison ![]() I'm also surprised that there doesn't seem to be any smacktalking. Played all day and no shittalking, although it seems no-one chats at all.

Oh there is smack talk. It just comes from the people on your team calling you an asshole for camping, or following the lemming train, or calling you useless. Overall though the community is not that bad, especially once you get into tank companies. The clans have a nice guild-like feeling like from WoW or any other MMO, which for me wasn't too bad.

I haven't played since before the physics engine and, it seems, at least 2 new tank lines? So I have no idea what's in those.

Without caring for hitpoints or taking shots, you won't have much fun >T5 though. Gun and run doesn't work anymore as soon as meds/heavys catch on in the gun department and most likely one or at least two-shot you. And no, speed is not really an advantage, it's still easy enough to blow lights up at full speed even with guns like the 128mm on german tanks or even arty (obviously depending on the map). At least that's my experience after ~5500 battles.

I used to play a lot of quakelive so this game just seems sooo slow to me. I hate spending 3 mins snailing 40% of the way across the battlefield just to hang out and hope someone is dumb enough to let me get a shot on 'em. It really seems like the most fun to be had is in the tier 1-2 battles at the beginning.

Expect to die alot and fast if you play it like quake. ![]()

None of my friends are willing to give it a try, so I am little worried about going in alone. Not a big fan of getting called a noob when I am trying a game out for the first time, but I guess it's something I have to deal with for now. I'll come back once I finish a few matches!

All oneshotwonders though, more or less. I'm not really sold on using the US meds in such a way, they tend to lack the dpm (pretty low alpha) and are pretty dependant on staying on the side/rear of their target, so if you go deep, you'll usually die before you get your target. As for beginning at the game, I'd say mainly two things : never stay still in the open while reloading, either keep moving at high speeds, or retreat to cover (even moving a bit forward, then backward, is better), and don't rush. Even at low tiers if you get focused by several opponents (especially those with flak) you'll die before you take more than one, maybe two shots, and you won't have done anything of the game, which can easily be frustrating. If your team rush, go in 2nd line right behind them so they spot the opponents (and you know where to go/how to flank) and they receive the brunt of the first wave.

Quick question: Why is the matchmaking so super retarted? I've got one friend with premium, T10 tanks and fully upgraded T2 and T3s. So, he is pretty strong in our low-level games. Rest is as noob as me. Now, we have reached Tier 4 and there is no more incentive to play this whatsoever. If we start with a T28, a A-20 and a Hetzer (med, light, AT all Tier 4) we get matched against Tier 7 and Tier 8 opponents. Of course, they will have 3 lows as well. But where is the fun in getting oneshotted by their scouts as a medium? I get that a T4 scout can work around being in a game with T8s, as he can't fight heavies anyway. But if i play anti-tank, get 5 perfect shots at the enemy heavy, get 5 times the message that my shot did ricochet off or did not even scratch him and then i see the turret turning slowly to me and i evaporate in 0,1 seconds, then this game is no fun at all. Is there a trick to play vs T4 as T4 premade?

Mobile tanks that pack a punch. You go ahead and suggest tanks other than US meds. ![]()

Quote wiki (about A20) "The A-20 is a very fast tank with a high top speed, but suffers from poor maneuverability at high speed. As a "scout" tank, it is expected to face tanks up to Tier 8, which can be very challenging, to say the least."
