Most of the old bugs are still in. He fixed steps, and that's about it. Didn't fix duping, any of the crash issues, the speed glitches, etc.
Even some big things in singleplayer weren't added, such as lanterns.
Also, his server client is corrupted and broken so you can't even play SMP at all right now.
Lanterns arent in SP either

I'm also getting rediculous single player lag. I'm on fast graphics and tiny sight, but the lag persists.

Minecraft wiki says ghasts are immune to fire, not sure if lava is included in that because I just saw one get taken down by a lava fall. It only dropped meat though )=.
You can deflect fireballs of ghasts back at them with a weapon.

I can confirm lava kills ghasts... at least in multiplayer.
|
I had one fly into a lava fall and it died too.

But do I need to create a new single player map for the fish and all new blocks and biomes to work or will it magically implement itself in my old save? I don't really feel like starting all over, those railroad tracks going all over the map just took too much time to redo all over again. Or the worst possibility; perhaps I can not even open the save... :I
|
there will be biomes in your old map, but only in areas you have not discovered yet.
|
What does a savanna look like? According to a shitload of websites the savanna is one of the included biomes but I can't seem to find it.
|
My guess is that savanna is going to be mostly grass.
Warning to anybody not informed: Lots of bugs in the game currently. Back up your save. Inventory doesn't drop on death and mobs currently spawn all over the fucking place. Previous spawn free zones will probably be infested now. I have a bunch of torches on the hill above my base and there was at least 5 dudes up there alone, whereas before I only saw 1 or 2 ever that had managed to wander in from far away where I didn't have torches. I've seen people claim they saw mobs spawn adjacent to a torch, and someone said that on a new world a creeper attacked him in the daylight while chopping the second tree (no caves nearby).
Armor also doesn't work at the moment. Setting the difficulty to peaceful isn't bad idea (or at least don't carry much stuff with you while you run around outside at first to get a feel for how many are gonna spawn).
Leaves don't despawn after you chop down trees right now, either. Portals are sometimes wonky and return you to the main world a good distance away from your initial portal (multiple people have been put into caves they never explored 50-200 blocks away and had to dig their way out).
That said, a lot of stuff that was added seems pretty cool. Bugs will of course be fixed over time. Just be aware that the game being in Alpha means something and be cautious.

' I'm pretty sure that portal thing is intended as a means of faster travel i recall him putting that somewhere. http://www.minecraft.net/boo/ first thing on the list "portal in, move ten meters, portal out your hundreds of meters away!"

People are thinking that if your portal would put a nether portal in lava, the game moves it to a safe location which causes the issue.
To portal out in a different spot you'd need to build a new portal. The first portal you make creates a replica in the other dimension. Exiting the same place you went in should theoretically put you back at the other portal. For many people it works just fine and does exactly that. For others when they go back to the main world it puts them somewhere else and auto-builds another portal for them to exit from, without deleting their original one (which is now only an entrance, not an exit as well).
A few people also stated that resources disappeared out of their chests after they started using the portals. One guy said that he lost about 4k iron that were in a number of different chests in various locations. A couple claimed that sections of the main world got deleted/chunks generated again which caused them to lose parts of their base/creations. Those seemed fairly rare, though.
It's an Alpha, it had a huge update, and there's a number of bugs. Fairly expected. Once Notch irons them out we'll be left with an even better Minecraft that will continue to grow even more.
I found the watch kinda interesting, and haven't tried fishing yet. Would be cool if we could eventually make placeable clocks so you could look at one that you put somewhere without having to always carry it with you. Kinda like a wall clock vs. pocket watch. Biomes are neat, though there's no way to please everybody. Some people love them and other people bitch that they "aren't big enough, they don't stretch to the horizon!"
Heard some new music, which was kinda neat, too.

Dumb question but I can't seem to find it... where is my minecraft directory lol?
How do I back up my worlds?
|
It's in C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\saves
an easy way to back them up is by using the Minecraft Save Manager
|
Thanks now that the community helped me it is time for me to give back to them.
Tip of the day: Don't set fire to leaves in a temperate rain forest. It travels through the ground to other trees. Long story short my once natural beautiful forest is now a baron wasteland.

Small, stupid question that may have already been answered.
Let's say I set up a private server on my home machine for my gf and I to play on in our spare time. Is there any way to make our survival multiplayer world persistent? Does it do this automatically, or would I have to use a program like Minecraft Save Manager?
I know this seems like an incredibly noob question, but I don't know server stuff at all, and my purchase of a second copy for my gf hinges on our SMP world being persistent.

not 100% sure what you're asking here but let me give it my best shot
if you're asking if you can play on the server for an hour, log out, and come back in to the same world, the answer is yes. serejai can give you details on backing up worlds. if you're asking if you can play on your server and when a new update comes out your world will be updated with the new features, i think again the answer is yes, but the TL server guys usually choose to reset their server then.
BUT you might not want to get too attached to a multiplayer world, as we don't know if future patches will require you to reset your world when they update
|
That's exactly what I was asking, yes and thank you. Sorry if it seemed clumsy - I'm not a software kind of guy at all. I really appreciate the help.
|
Notch hot fixed the losing everything death. I had to use a cheat to get my shit back. I lost like 40 obsidian and 10 diamonds. Mega uncool to not be able to pick it up. I played a few minutes ago and you can now pick up your shit again.
Hell is so fucking scary. Fuck Ghasts.

I want the game T_T must convince parents to buy it :O
|
So a friend of mine just bought it via paypal, downloaded alpha, and it says he's "not a premium user". Does it take some time for it to get verified/activated or something?
