I didnt use any antidotes and luckily I didn't lose any pokemon to poison. The closest I got was having a 1 health pidgey in front of nurse joy. Another close call was when I caught a meowth in the route under Cerulean and I accidently poisoned it. Since it was low hp from catching it and the pokemon center was pretty far I wouldnt make it but luckily the daycare center was right under me. I gave my meowth to that guy and took it right back and it was full hp and cured.
After you get fly poison isnt really an issue since you can just fly to a pokecenter. Also I tried to use ivysaur to fight poison pokemon most of the early game to avoid being poisoned. Also since I'm playing FireRed and Viridian forested is riddled with weedles, I relied on using my pidgey's gust to 1 shot them before they could poison sting me.

Well once you get fly you could presumably just stock up on escape ropes and escape rope + fly to a pokemon center every time you get poisoned but until you get there it'd be pretty hairy.

IF I could solve the HG/SS crashing issue I'd do this challenge

It's sort of similar to what you're doing so I thought I'd share. http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=68998&highlight=breloomIt's basically a challenge to run through a pokemon game with a set of rules. The rules given here are: 1. If a pokemon faints, you must release it as soon as possible. 2. You can ONLY catch the first pokemon you encounter in a route/cave/town/area (You get the idea). If you defeat the first pokemon you see, tough shit, you get nothing from this area. 3. Obviously if you run out of pokemon, you must start again. 4. Potions, healing items of any kind infact, are DISALLOWED. 5. Give your pokemon nicknames, for fucks sake! Make them your little babies! CARE FOR THEM! Just something interesting to do after this whole thing is over if you want or for anyone else to try. im actually going to try this :D sounds awesome
This is called the nuzlocke run and is a HUGE part of my inspiration for doing this, and the thing that gave me the idea in the first place. In fact, so that noone thinks im plagiarizing (since I use a lot of jokes from other places)
Heres the list of stuff I get ideas/inspiration from
Ruby 'Hard' Mode (Nuzlocke run) - Recommended for LOST fans
pokemon X - Sprite comic
VGcats - Super effective

Also if you go on nuzlocke's main website he is currently working on a FireRed run and is also making a comic for that too. It's hilarious everyone should check it out.
http://www.nuzlocke.com/ Season 1 is the Ruby run and Season 2 is the FireRed run.

If you use the No$GBA one then you can set it to stay at 2x speed all the time.
Are there any settings you have to change so you cana ctually play? Like the saves and stuff like that?

in SS you have to name yourself Dumbass! It's way too funny, Dumbass! You're ready to start your new adventure. Oh Dumbass there you are... etc
edit: I'm counting on you Dumbass!

no$gba is the best for HG/SS. The problem with the game was that it was freezing at the 3rd gym or something because Nintendo somehow implemented an anti-piracy into the game. I think it was patched, not sure though.
