Ah.. Romulation.net doesn't have DS games available anymore. Anyone ahve a link to a HG or SS rom?

No, as roms are technically illegal. Though I have found a supposed work around the the black screen of death in HG/SS


to fix the black screen, open up Utility > Cheats OR Press F2, Then Add New, Check the Action Replay DS and tick the RAW box, then insert this code 020DE16C E1A00000 020D3FA8 E1A00000

You should be able to play the game fine after that, works for me [sic]


This works, I tested it in No$gba. Seems to work fine.

Roms are only illegal if you dont own the game system and or game, I run a PS2 emulator on my PC perfectly legally because I own a PS2 and dont use images I use my PS2 disks in my DVD drive.

I never got HG/SS working on emulator. However, I play it on my NDS.

I got both Soulsilver and GoldHeart to Work, pm me if u can download torrent, it explains it all, for emulator im using desmume

edit nvm unless u can read fluent Japanese.....

edit 2: nvm i manged to get a english version, the graphics look really cool.....

No, I think it is in most Pokemon games. For some reason, if your native state is in 64k, after you beat the champion and the credits roll, it won't start over from Pallet Town or wherever. It has to be in 128.

AntZ, try this:

1) Copy your native save (.sav) file and put it somewhere else on your comp. Just incase something messes up. I'm assuming your .sav file is 64k right now. Might be a good idea to copy your current save state (.sgm) also.

2) Now delete the native save (.sav) from your Fire Red folder and load up the game. Remember to have the save type as 128k Automatic here.

3) Start a brand new game and go through the name and Prof Oak speaking and stuff. When it gets to your house, do the in game save and close the emulator. This should work, hopefully! Check and see if the .sav file is indeed 128k. If not, try again I suppose.

4) Now reload the game with this 128k file. Up to now, you have not done anything with save state (.sgm) nor have you loaded a save state. So you'll be in Pallet Town with nothing. This is the important part: now load your save state (.sgm) file. The save state files also keep your original emulator settings so if you native save now, it'll be in 64k. Go back and switch the save type into 128k. If it's already 128k you're good .

5) So, you are wherever you are in the game (I think it was One Island). Now do the in game native save. Check and see if it is 128k. If it is, then the problem is fixed. Che-cheyaaa.

If for some reason this doesn't work, PM me and I'll send you my native save file (it's already in 128k.) You can load that, then load your save state, and then rewrite it.


I'm not Antz, but I did what you said, and it changed to 128k now in my folder... but I still can't save in game. Doesn't this mean I still won't be able to get past the elite 4?

Probably not. That is weird, if you're sav is already in 128k and it isn't saving. It probably means that your emulator is recognizing the save as a 64k still. I'm gunna mess around and see what I come up with.

Okay that is definitely weird. I just started a new game and originally saved it as 64k and had a save state after I got my first pkmn. Then I started a new game and saved as 128k and replaced the files, loaded the save state and resaved. It worked fine for me.

However, I think I know what maybe messing up. Before you start a brand new game make a brand new folder (say Desktop) and copy the Pokemon Fire Red.gba file into it. Load the game from here. Before you start the rom, make sure 128k is already selected! You can't do it in the middle while the game is running. When you get to the point of saving (in your house) make sure the message "there is already a save file, do you want to override it?" doesn't appear. This happened to me a few times. I'm not sure why because there was nothing to load from. If this appears delete the folder and make a fresh new one and try again. I really don't know why it does that. It should save as 128k. Now take this one and instead of replacing your 64k .sav, make another new folder that will contain:

Pokemon Fire Red.gba
Pokemon Fire Red.sav (128k)
Pokemon Fire Red.sgm (from your original game)

Now before you load the game make sure 128k is selected. Load it and enter the save state. Make sure 128k is selected again. Now save (it will say "There is already a save file, do you want to override?" this time). Hopefully it should work. Remember, if you got a "1M circuit" error in the beginning something messed up.


Yeah, for some reason, despite me trying this multiple times, it still gives me the error
"Save Error, please exchange the backup memory." However, whenever I start a new game, the saving works. =P And it works for like emerald and stuff so if I can just play a new game if I want. ^_^

I just started pokemon on a emulator because I was bored and I saw this thread,and after 30 minutes of playing I hit some button and now my game is 4x speed ALLTHETIME.Usually I can speed up the game with spacebar,but now its 4x all the time... any ideas?

oh and OP I enjoy this thread,your comments are funny :'D

I'm playing through FireRed with these rules right now and I've already lost a couple of pokemon.
Lvl 5 Caterpie (1 shotted by critical hit rattata)
Lvl 5 Rattata (1 shotted by critical hit rattata, these things are vicious)
Lvl 12 Butterfree (1 shotted by geodude's rock throw)
Lvl 22 Meowth (died to rival's kadabra)
Lvl 27 Mankey (died to team rocket member's golbat wing attack wtf)

I was relying on ivysaur and pidgeotto for most of the game but now I got a few more useful pokemon. I'm at the part where I can fight Koga or do Silph Co. My main lineup right now is:
Lvl 40 Vaporeon
Lvl 38 Venusaur
Lvl 37 Pidgeot
Lvl 32 Nidoking
Lvl 27 Exeggcute

Got a few trash pokemon in storage that I'm probably not gonna use unless most of my main team somehow dies.

Antz how did you not lose any pokemon til now? Did you keep most of your team overleveled throughout the game?

EDIT: actually since you can use potions and antidotes I guess that helped your pokemon survive.

@oceanic antidotes arent disallowed are they? That seems nearly impossible if you can't cure poisons.
