Its not just hype, but isn't the PTR basically just like playing a season? Play with new toys, see how far you can get, who cares about wipe you just want the next iteration to play.

The PTR is like a season yes. They do maintenance and patch the PTR like they would a regular server. I don't like the idea that all you need is to download the Battle.net Client and you can play the PTR without purchasing the game. Nice feature? No, not imo - It ruins the experience had by all the core Diablo 3 gamers. Half(or more) of the people I've interacted with on 2.3 patch ptr don't even play Diablo 3 - word of mouth caused them to Download the client and play the PTR clogging up the server for the core D3 gamers, leaving us unable to test the game properly. 21+ Hour Queue times....really?
Blizzard needs to figure something out for the PTR. I think you need to at least own the game to participate in the PTR. I know a whole bunch of others completely agree. The only ones that don't, are usually the ones that don't own D3 but play the PTR for the month or 3 that it's out.
|
well, Blizzard apparently doesnt agree. also, ptr is just beta. its pretty abnormal for people to pay to play beta. i can see why people wish that it was limited to paying players, but you arent paying for ptr, just the game. also, it seems to be in blizzard's best interest to let people play ptr because it may attract more people to buy the game. the "core" players already bought the game, so blizzard needs to appeal to a wider base and if ptr is attracting more people then that seems the best option for blizzard. some of those people may actually end up buying the game when ptr ends, who knows.

Yea I understand all that. It's all marketing.
I just feel they need to regulate the PTR some how. Giving real diablo 3 players a chance to actually get on the PTR to test the game/patch.

By the time the new patch gets on to the real client the whole thing has been figured out on the PTR and it's not even interesting.

The nerf to the monk set was too harsh? Did you play it on the ptr? It was fucking op as hell! 95% uptime on SSS which is complete immunity was a little crazy even more so than the barb set with the bracers they took out.

Yeah, of course was it OP, but why dont just tweak some numbers instead of destroying a whole build. For example, make it only 50% dmg-reduction while in SSS or something. With this cooldown added, they pretty much made their beautiful new set basically useless.

Except its not. Not even close to being useless. It's still powerful and up there with the dashing strike set. You can stack Fire EP multiple times on enemies while SSS is on CD then blow them up. The set is still strong and in no way crippled or destroyed. Oh no there's actual points of vulnerability where you have to play intelligently and not just mindlessly mash SSS.

Hey guys, haven't played that much since the first season. I was playing crusader (HC) and before RoS I played a lot of monk.
Probably going to play in S4 HC (probably mostly 2's with a WD or solo) not sure if I want to make a crusader or monk.
When I played crusader, lategame was mostly stampede horses or condemn spam with sweep attack builds running into trouble without perma Akkarat Champ. I understand hammers are going to be good next season? Not sure about monk, but the idea of tempest rush and dashing strike spam doesn't appeal to me. What sort of builds are people doing with monks? I thought about barb but WW spamming is boring to me.
Any easy resources for changes I should be reading about? I know theres the new cube thing but don't know much about it, or anything about new legs or sets.

Season 3 reworked the Storms and Ianna's sets for Monks making Dashing Strike based builds the way to go currently where the upcoming patch will introduce a set based around Exploding Palm and Seven Sided Strike which is a lot of fun to play.
Barbs in season 3 got a set based on Whirlwind plus a set of 2 Mighty Weapons that synergize well with said Whirlwind set. The old Charge set and Immortal Kings set are still ok, but the Whirlwind set is miles better at killing things.
Crusaders really didn't get anything new with season 3 though the Rolands set based on Shield Bash is pretty fun. They're getting a new set in the patch based around Hammer Throw and Falling Sword, basically you run around pretending to be Captain America.
There's dozens of new legendaries since season 1 and I couldn't hope to list them all and Blizz has a tendency to keep some of them secret until people start actually finding them in Seasonal.
Kanai's Cube is kinda like the Horadric Cube from D2 on steroids. Bunch of new crafting recipes through it to upgrade items, create portals to other realms etc. It also can take legendary mods and store them within itself allowing you to equip them without actually having to use the weapon. Currently you can equip 1 weapon, armor and jewelry passive through the cube. The Cube is going to open up a lot more build diversity and make everyone a lot stronger.

Thanks. Did anyone really use much shield bash with rolands? Sweep attack seems so much more reliable for damage.

I think all the 40+ leaderboard hopefuls play sweep. rolands is very fast to explode packs but super squishy.

I really want to get back into this but I just can't stop from getting bored. Rifts, grifts, bounties just all blend together for me in the grind to the next marginal upgrade. Maybe things will be different after the patch.

I mean just the removal of trials alone will make me comeback for a few weeks. There is nothing more annoying than wanting to grift and being forced to do endless trials before you can start. It was a huge unnecessary timesink.

I really like the game but i feel it needs a good PVP system, the "pvp" (brawling) in the game its so fkn bad
Seriously i remember that i had a real reason to grind for better loot in D2, to fight the crap out of other people in PVP, and it was glorious.

the pvp in d2 was really not that great in terms of gameplay mechanics. it was only good as a way to make gear progression more meaningful and important.

I don't understand how greater rifts were a good idea to begin with. Seems to me like the community was just dying for anything so they embraced greater rifts. Blizzard were happy because it was one of the easiest content additions they could have done.
It seems like a pretty good engine, good classes, reasonable maps, but at the end of the day 99% of the game is just played on the rifts maps using a few builds. D2 felt like it had a lot more variety in every aspect.
