Rofl, after you get past temple lv 1 in the beta and are searching through "the weeping hollow" theres a bad named zombie called Gilgamesh the shamed.

Which is a reference to a really funny story of a wife cheating on her husband guild leader over ventrilo with their World of Warcraft guildmates. http://www.wowwiki.com/Server:Onyxia_US/The_legend_of_Gilgamesh . Got tons of attention on the forums and throughout all WoW servers. Was some good bit of drama that pretty much everyone had heard of at the time. Saw in during a beta play through and spit soda everywhere.

That's pretty funny. I bet there's more too.

There are a TON of stories like this.

On my server our guild was #1 horde side. A guy in our guild lost his virginity to the guild leaders wife of the #2 horde guild. Broke up their marriage, family (they had kids), and the guild. Another girl who had a boyfriend that played too cheated on him with a couple guys online before he figured it out. Lots of people hooked up.

WoW players are sluts.

nope not wow players

this is whats happening in real life. Things like this have nothing to do with videogame or w/e

diablo 2 is old and blizz doesnt give a rats ass about bots or hacks there, but be sure they wont allow foul play on a brand new game. expect ban waves and itll go away, same as with WoW and SC2

There were MASSIVE ban waves in D2. I mean, we're talking 350,000+ cd keys in some cases. No joke. It helped, but it didn't stop things for long, and today you still can't host an open game without bots and spammers constantly coming in and harassing you.

My hope is that the server-side program requirements, the same reason why you can't play D3 without a Bnet connection, are what will prevent botting and duping.

Obviously you aren't going to release working bots for a beta, but you can use the beta to get the coding in place and test them which allows for a very quick release once the game comes out. Also the first set of bots will probably sell for 1k+ each and won't be public releases but for people running item/gold stores.

Side note: Wow and SC2 are great examples of how little blizzard is doing to stop hackers, 24-72hour bans is a fucking joke. You can bot/hack wow for 6years and not even get one of those.

There have always been hacks for games, this will not change in Diablo III. Honestly I don't get what's so surprising about this, the beta is up and the game client and files are easily downloadable to anyone who wants them. Why anyone is surprised that the game is already being tinkered with makes no sense.

for all the guys who believe in massive ban waves.
why did they decided to team up with the cheaters? just to ban them?
Farmers and boter bring bliz money now! They will not ban there best customers...
In the past bliz makes money if they ban(people buyed the game again)
Now they loose money ( people are not selling items)

The strange thing is:

Official game:
- only online
- you can cheat items but you have to pay for each one

Download:
-Offline mode
-you can have the item you want for free.

Do they think they will make more money with the item shop than they loose by selling the game?

Yeah i doubt that blizz will do anything about it....hmm, i just realized that - an hour ago i would have sided with the "new game = no hacks" side......but i just remembered a friend of mine has 2 Accounts running 24/7 in WoW for Goldfarming and selling that for real money....and he is doing that for .... several years at least...never been banned. still running that shit to the day.

Hmmm, well........at least i can hope to play with the guys that i enjoyed playing Diablo II HC in Europe

They might make inferno hard enough to give bots a hard time though.

Cheaters/botters are experts at exploiting, I don't think they'll be stopped. Speed hacks, teleport hacks, etc were all rampant in WoW. Paid staff even failed to deal with confirmed cheaters constantly on European servers.

tl,dr: I have very little faith in Blizzard being able to create a cheat-free environment.

obviously botters are the only people that will be selling items on RMAH

A very good reason why hackings and botters are a very bad thing in D3 Beta. If these people succeed and hack into the system, Blizzard will have to consider this a major failing. This means that the game will be potentially set back a very long freakin time.

They are basically legitimizing botting. As long as the potential profit rate for a bot exceeds the rate at which your accounts get banned, people will be doing it.

As do I unfortunately.

As others have said, you can MH and bot in Diablo 2 without getting banned. I've never done it but some people have been doing it non-stop for years. I can only hope Diablo 3 will not suffer the same idiotic community (impossible hope, I know) that did their best to lower the prestige of an awesome game.

I plan on soloing until I finish Inferno. In fact, trading is not really going to matter to me. I don't want to risk getting a duped item and I don't want to help botters. I'm patient and I don't mind using my own stuff (and the blacksmith will be awesome for this, no need to bother anyway).

I'm most eager to start collection gems. Lame, I know, but I'm such a hoarder. Will definitely get a few maxed ones in due time. And they will be mine only! That's half the reason I want to play the game.

Even in Diablo 2 people got caught. Massive banwaves hit periodically, but by that time it barely even mattered as the game was quite cheap. The problem is, getting caught does not effect the professionals. They are already making money no matter how many accounts they have to buy. Even the average botter had multiple CD-key's to increase the amount of runs/hour a person could do on a single computer. This is another reason why Blizzard uses a Delayed ban system. Because they do not ban instantly, private websites dedicated to cheating do not have time to warn individuals to stop using their hacks/bots/scripts/ etc. With other games, like games that use Punkbuster, bans happen and private websites see the bans and instantly take their hacks offline (most use authenticated launchers and downloaders to keep you updated). The script kiddies using the newest public cheat on the block get caught the most, and they arent even the ones that matter. It's the individuals who ruin the economy throwing multiple multiple truely endgame items onto the market. Who do it as a profession. The RMAH sounds like a great idea... I will probably be purchasing two accounts and level two characters at the same time for the sole purpose of dual boxing to get ahead in the RMAH game. But in the end, If I continue to play 16 hours a day on 2 characters I will never match someone who has 10 accounts running at once. You never see these people, they are the silent minority, and as such arent targeted nearly as often by Blizzard as rampant outbreaks of public cheats are the ones that people see, hear, and are affected by and with that are the ones that Blizzard spents it's time on.

Bots are simple to make. And there are many ways to make simple bots completely undetectable to blizzard. I'm kind of sad that there are some non-randomized dungeons and encounters in Diablo 3, because if one thing kills bots best, it's randomness and unpredictability. As a result scripted encounters are going to be botted the most. The more complex a bot is, the more likely it is to be detected. Memory injection for the program to browse things like life values and monster locations is an example of a feature that would increase detection. Alternatively, Bots that use pixel detection are impossible to detect.

The real botters, the people who hire programmers to produce a bot for them will never get caught. If the cheat is never released to the public there is very little chance it will get detected by Blizzard. These are the people who need to be banned. The average script kiddy / cheat forum go'er takes the punishment, while the few elite profit.

I'm aware of how it works and why they ban in waves. But at the same time, a wave ban is a huge help for gold sellers. They know they will only get banned once in a while instead of every other day.

I know it's probably not viable for Blizzard, but having a couple of competent people have their full time job be banning people would be awesome.

Well, didn't affect my SC2 experience much because I barely played it but it definitely lowered the quality of BNet in WC3, Diablo 2 (massively here, can't even play an open game anymore without level restrictions and even there it's a crapshoot) and SC1.

I just want to enjoy an online game with a better community. Just going in a trade game and having the people there be regular players that are just having fun instead of people that don't like the game but just want to make money.

Guild Wars has so far been the closest game to that (especially in recent years with most idiots gone) but there's still the fair share of scammers and spammers. Still, I'd definitely take that community vs the one from Diablo 2.

P.S : I'm terrified of what the Guild Wars 2 community will be like. It's going to be so fucking horrible, 10 times worse than Diablo 3 IMO.
