Hahaha. Seriously though, I don't know how D3 could become an eSport. Why would you watch the arena matches when you could just watch DotA 2 instead?

Maybe because Dota 2 matches take an hour?

I'm not a fan of Dota type games, other than LoL, but I think any game with a PvP aspect to it can become competitive to a lesser or greater degree. It really depends on if the game is ballanced towards PvP. Diablo looks to be balanced more focused towards pve, and they would need to make gear and damage much more static to be able to balance pvp.

I'm assuming if they ever did try it would look like Bloodline Champions where you dont have items and skill points etc, You have 5 set skills and it comes down to how you play not what gear you have.

And a good caster can always change peoples opinion about PvP ^.^
Look for the flaw that lost the game not the flaw in the game.

If you actually knew what you were talking about you would know that they have said they are rebalancing spells for arena. (Meaning that spells will have different values etc. once you enter the arena)
A game where the first thing you do is scout with a “worker”. Does that make any sense? Who scouts with a “worker”? That’s like sending out the janitor to perform recon, what general would do that? Retarded game.

Huh? What are you talking about?

SC2 became an eSport because SC:BW was an esport, and because Blizzard built the game from the ground up to fulfill the role of an eSport. eSports don't just materialize on their own because a game has a community and there's some way to shoehorn in a competitive metagame. We've been there / done that already. If a game isn't built from the ground up to be an eSport, it just doesn't work. You can't just tweak a few knobs to make a game that's not an esport work as one. Developers have tried it before, and it always fizzles out when people realize the game is fundamentally broken at the highest levels and there's no way to fix it.

Do you realize that the devs have already said, on video, that they have no intention of balancing the arena? That pretty much kills the debate right there.

D3 will never have an e-sport scene meaning tournaments and prizes.

On another subject. There is something about the game that bother me, I'm quite ok with them allowing you to get everyskill. But this and the fact you don't distribute attributes I'm a little sad that leveling up isn't really exciting appart from those where you get a new skill...

I just feel that many level ups will be kind of "whatever still 2 to get ability X". Nothing really to do. I'll still enjoy the game but that is a downside. Not sure if I'm right.
Either we are alone in the Universe or we are not. Both are equally terrifying.

Sorry if you were confused, I was responding to the posts saying the game was boring to watch, even though the only thing we've been able to watch is the equivalent of D2 through A1Q4 or SC2 for a few single player missions.

Also interesting blue post:

As already mentioned, you’ll need a World of WarCraft or StarCraft 2 Account to participate in the Diablo 3 Beta Lottery. If you don’t have one, you’ll have no chance to create a Diablo 3 Beta Account if you win. This applies to our forums as well.
We don’t do this because we only accept paying customers for the beta, even though it might look like that.

We want to prevent that players create countless Battle.net Accounts to take part in the lottery. Because of that, only players with an activated game will be able to take part in the beta lottery.”

But older Blizzard games don't count as an activated account of course!

Yep, thats what they say, despite the beta FAQ which clearly says:

To be eligible to participate in the Diablo III beta test, you need an active Battle.net account with any Blizzard game title attached to it. If you don’t already have an account, it’s easy to create one. Once you’ve set up a Battle.net account, or if you’ve already got one, you can access it by visiting http://us.battle.net/en/ and clicking the Account button on the upper right. Then, to opt into the beta, just click the Games & Codes section of your Account Management page, and then select the Beta Profile Settings option from the drop-down menu.

Well, I got 3 WoW accounts, and 3 SC2 accounts. Does that give me 6x the chances to get in ^^;

It should give, yes. As long as they are separate accounts, not on one bnet account.

They are all on one account actually haha. With exclusion to one EU SC2 account which I had swapped from NA. (you could not register two copies of SC2 from the same region on release, so it was put onto a seperate account, then I swapped it to an EU version through a battle net ticket). Too bad really.

It doesnt make sense, they could have allowed players with legacy games (D2, WC3, etc) to be put in the lottery. Even having one of those games prevents people creating countless Bnet accounts. It's clearly a cop-out. You can see that with the change between previous Beta FAQ and how it is currently.

It being a 'cop-out' doesn't affect how much sense it makes. It is in their interest to do such a thing, it is sensible whether you disagree or dislike it.

Well i'm not questioning it's the right thing to do from a business perspective. I'm not at all affected by this recent change either. It's the fact that they changed the requirements of getting selected in the beta after they announced the requirements and even posted a beta opt-in FAQ. Secondly, there have been multiple sources inside Blizzard contradicting both sides (GM responses, ticket responses, forum responses). It would be nice to know the facts without all of this back and forth that is currently going on.

The sensible thing to do would be to change the beta FAQ page.

I agree. Very few games have been designed "from the ground up" to be an eSport. In fact, you could make the case that LoL and DOTA2 are the ONLY games to fit that criteria.
