I'm trying to find their reasoning for lowering it. edit- The game is playable for the first time at Blizzcon, and it's playable in co-op with up to four players. When asked about what the upper limit will be for co-op play, he said that the final number is up in the air but they're currently looking at eight. "We're a little bit worried that if you go up to too many players that you're not really going to be playing together anymore. We want to make sure it's a great co-op experience where you really play with the people you're with, so we've just got to experiment and figure out what the optimal number is." Source- http://pc.ign.com/articles/919/919059p1.html Obviously that's pretty old, but maybe the player limit could still change before release. If you find anything more recent let me know.

No, that is indeed too old. They said they chose a lower number because you never actually played with 8 players together. Everyone was always spread out, doing their own thing, or even AFK in the corner in a Baal run, so they chose the highest number where it was still possible to play as a group, in the same screen, killing the same groups of monsters.

So far I'm very excited.....although things like getting lag while playing alone (single player) really pisses me off. Witch doctor seems the most badass btw.

IMO 5 would be a better number, that way you can have 1 of each class. But games still tend to obsess with exponents of 2, so I suppose that's why they choose 4.

I'm probably just used to seeing more people in games. I'd love to see that number increase to 6 though.

It was annoying to have to constantly chug mana potions in D1 and D2, but now it seems like their is largely no point in using the regular attack (for the demon hunter at least). Which I'm not really a fan of because their should be some sort of cost to using special attacks. From The Ten Commandments of Diablo III + Show Spoiler + Diablo III's five strong class line-up is looking incredible, and each is even more unique than before. In previous games, for instance, each class utilised mana for powering various skills and spells. In Diablo III, each class has its own system. The Barbarian, for instance, utilises fury. Fury is generated by dishing out damage and taking damage, but it also ebbs away, so must be used as it accumulates, meaning that you're always looking for your next set of kills. A good player will choose a mix of fury-generating and fury-using abilities so they can make the most of this system. The Wizard, on the other hand, uses arcane power for attacks, which is a fast regenerating resource, with defensive abilities on a cooldown system. The Demon Hunter has two resources: hatred and discipline. Hatred regenerates quickly and is primarily used for attacks, while discipline regenerates slowly and is mostly used for defence. The Monk, on the other hand, uses spirit, but this resource is used almost entirely for defence. It's generated through attacking, and unlike the Barbarian's fury, it doesn't ebb away. Last but not least, is the Witch Doctor, who's the only class that still uses mana, and it slowly regenerates. The various systems reflect the significant differences in how each class approaches combat, and each has more than twenty unique skills to mix and match. Unlike the last game, players will also be able to choose a male or female character for each class. For more info, click through to the Diablo III video page where we have a rundown on each and every class from game director Jay Wilson.
