Does anyone else think all the abilities and such are too flashy? Why can't the demon hunter just shoot regular arrows? I think bliz is going a little bit overboard. It might work for WoW, but Diablo should be different.
Other than that, I think the game should be pretty fun. It's basically D2 with better graphics and new features.
You can't beat the first Diablo though, and I wish blizz would go back to that original creepiness and atmosphere, but it's not going to happen
I agree. Too much flashy shit. I'm just waiting for the over sized shoulders, and weapons 10x taller than the person holding it.
I don't think the demonhunter's regular attacks are flashy. The entire video seems to be skill spamming with infinite mana. Every so often you hear the old crossbow sound and I believe that is a regular attack.

Actually, that was a major complaint ten years back when D2 released. The rest of the game made up for it more than enough so the whole argument dwindled and finally vanished. It's kind of a warm and fuzzy nostalgic feeling to see it being dragged out of the closet for D3's release again, this time around with a bit of sugar added on top from the ever so popular WoW bashing bandwagon I hope the dev team stands by what they hinted at jokingly in response to the whole art discussion by adding a cow level equivalent featuring unicorns and rainbows all over the place. That's what I am waiting for at least.
Personal prediction is that the game will be fun despite such massive sins as using up-to-date technology, new gameplay concepts we haven't seen in the series so far and colors other than red and black.
Sarcasm and other non-sense aside, I'd say I am pretty tolerant and willing to wait for the final product to make a verdict. Still I have found myself doubting the direction they are taking on a visual level a few times. Regardless of that, I am looking forward to the release since - at least in my books - the good news outweigh the bad news so far by a decent amount.
I think the visual effects look great, it's just that there are so many explosions going on at the same time I'm not even sure who caused them or even WHAT they are.
But someone mentionned infinite mana so I don't think it will actualy be a problem in the game.
Anyone else thinks the ghost scene is awesome? I hope to see more of such treats in the game, very climatic. Don't like how abilites light up entire room making it look very not-creepy. And yeah, D1 > D2.
Let's just hope it won't be too flashy, all colors lights everywhere such as standing in the middle of fucking fireworks. Otherwise i liked the new videos and was very pleased to hear similar sounds from d2 maybe even d1 (monster sounds, arrow shooting). I really hope Blizzard will not fuck the greatness in the bottom as they did with my another favorite game...
It would be nice if they could get the lightwork back to D1, where you could hear mobs walking outside of your light radius but couldn't see them. Was such a great thing when they came out of darkness to get you... In D2 the light radius lost its importance, and that was something I didn't really like.

hopefully the monster count gets increased in some areas.
also, hope that the monsters get much more 'hellish' than whats shown in that video.

agreed, that lumbering pink ass monster looks something right out of fosters home of imaginary friends or powerpuff girls...
also less flashy fireworks and more hardcore "darkness" please.

There really needs to be an increase in monster numbers. There were countless moments in D2 that one slip up will mean you're surrounded by packs of monsters, which is what I loved.
Thinking back to the times I died on hell difficulty and having hundreds of monsters following me while I tried getting my corpse back....those were the days.

this to me looks like its them being around level 30 in normal with poor gear... where they cannot just waltz through everything, but no where near their full power levels. Or I hope not... because if thats it and i need to use all my skills like 3 times to kill 3 guys it will be annoying...
Although to be fair, i think they were all in whites since none of their gear glowed like in previous videos.
Not to mention, the monster level looks like normal.... in hell its supposed to be scary and that was not scary at all.
While I'd be concerned if monster numbers stayed that low throughout the game, those gameplay videos are showing a character at level 10 using mostly white items plus a few random crappy blues. Given that this is essentially Act 1 Normal, maybe early Act 2, those videos really shouldn't be considered indicative of how play will be at level 60 in Hell mode.

There was an "hands on report" (sorry I can't remember where) that basically said the game is designed to be more dangerous. There are more enemies that can pull/push you, entrapment abilities, and what not. It's part of the reason why each class has a movement ability (because you'll actually need it for more than just item runs).

And don't forget that they haven't reached the balance phase on the game yet. They're still working on putting in all the skills, mechanics, monsters, etc. Anything you see in a video or demo isn't meant to be an exact depiction of the difficulty of the final game.
All I know is that when this is released I'll quit studying/working for one whole year so I can play this game 24/7. The sad part is that I'm actually serious.

True, D2 replaced what it was lacking in atmosphere with long-term multiplayer gameplay. But nowadays, because I don't want to spend hours to get to the interesting part of D2 and rather want to experience a cool game right away, I really prefer replaying D1 by a large margin. Especially single-player wise, D2 has nothing on D1. D3 obviously follows D2 and I get that the multiplayer long-term experience is more attractive to many players. But honestly, WoW is just better at that. That's the role that WoW plays in this discussion. D3 could have made a point by having a cooler atmosphere again. After all, the actual mechanics of how you kill monsters (which is the big divider between WoW and D3) is pretty irrelevant to the hardcore players to whom the deep gameplay caters. Grinding is grinding...
So if I look for short term fun and atmosphere, I go to D1. If I want to build a character and spend hours trying to find a better item, I go to WoW. D3, as D2 in hindsight, seems pointless.

I never thought about the differences between D1 and D2 that way but it's an excellent point.
I hope that the atmosphere in D3 is similar to D1 or bosses end up being more unique than what I've seen so far. I recall a really old D3 video having a boss ripping off a player's head. That'd lead to a cool gameplay feature.
D3 keeps looking more and more like WoW. See the recent videos of the "quests" and the announcement of the PvP arenas. I don't think we can expect a radical change in development to end up more like D1.
WoW comparisons have been proven pretty weak time and time again. Most of the features people complain about as "more and more like WoW" are either 1) not unique to WoW by a long shot or 2) pretty awesome features regardless of what game they're in.
Let's face it, the "quests" in Diablo 2 weren't exactly that thrilling in and of themselves. They were either something you were going to do anyways to progress the game, or something that generated an awesome reward. If they weren't that, you didn't do them (and people even found ways around the "game progressing" quests to rush characters). Making quests more dynamic and interesting is a logical progression in the design of the game.
PvP arenas were introduced specifically because of the lack of good PvP support in Diablo 2. Building it right into the game is obviously a much better solution than making players rely on IRC channels, passworded games, and griefable hostile buttons. As for the arena combat itself, it's far more like a DOTA game or even small-unit-count SC2 micro fights than it is WoW arenas.

We already have a ton of FPS and other shooters on Sc2, why not Diablo?
I'm sure it would be a TON of work but I don't see why it couldn't be done. The input lag would get annoying though. People who are really serious about something like that would probably prefer to use a different game engine if they had the skill/knowledge to do so.
