I had the same problem with my stat points. As I was always striving for a perfect build, I never put any strength points unless I was sure I wanted to use an item (pretty much never) but I also never put points in vitality, just in case I needed the points in strength. So I made the early game needlessly more difficult
It's so bad that I make my complete build with ideal equipment before I even start a new char. I know I should just jump in and hack'n'slash like I just don't care, but it's hard. Because of that I can relate to Blizzard's statements about stats and why some form of respec would be awesome for me, as I wouldn't have to worry about screwing up my build. Cause if I did, I'd start over and feel bad about it.
I also get fed up with the Diablo community using the stat points example of how "Blizzard only caters to the casual gamer". I am anything but a casual gamer, especially when it comes to Diablo. I have a template for spreadsheet-builds, I played D1 so much I know the stats by heart and I still play D2. Stat points were a bad system, deal with it. The new customization thing (which I assume is item based) will be equal or better. Think of Chrono Trigger, you got your skills from items. And it was awesome
EDIT: Also, don't know if it's been posted before (probably is) but this here is the link to download the Beta press kit. http://us.blizzard.com/en-us/company/press/presskits.html

Just all the features they did not add like 'observation mod' is because of 'not wanting to make it esport'
In other words esports is hurting D3 =( Pretty sad. + Show Spoiler +

Love the little bit of history... However at some point, I can't help but feel that none of that feels fun...
I don't mind the idea of permadeath (I have/had a lot of fun playing roguelikes) but D2 always had a weird feel to it... Being able to save and exit or drop a tp at the drop of 2 buttons was what made it easy to not die in pve, but playing over the internet there will always be the possibility of dying to a DC. So the Hardcore is just frustrating.
Add that entire layer of people who gank each other and that you don't need to play with other people and it all feels strange... The guy who hits lvl 99 first isn't the best player, he's probably just a bit persistent and with a lot of friends/clan. Call me Softcore... but that whole meta game is not my cup of tea...
Don't worry, I don't really understand it either. It is all about epeen, but I don't get how they derive it from the state of hardcore in d2. Especially with something like tppk, you don't kill the other player, your script kills the other player. Belial pretty much admits it himself that it is all about having a faster script than the other guy; a script that 99% of the time was written by someone else. I guess it is the same rationale that people can enjoy winning in starcraft using MH. I don't understand, but to each his own I guess.
|
Nothing to do with epeen.. Its about excitement, the thrill of possibility to die at any moment. Because when you blind tele into a fanat cursed monster pack, and they roll a crit or two on you, thats what very well can happen. It never goes away, and i gotta tell you, it feels fucking amazing.
And there are private groups of hc players that stay away from botters, hackers and such. tppk was patched.

I wasn't talking about just playing hardcore. I played hardcore, even some dueling, and enjoyed it. I can relate to the thrill and excitement, particularily with dueling. I was really specifically talking about TPPK and such. There is no thrill there. You don't really put your character at risk and then compound it by hiding behind a script. It is good to know that TPPK got patched though. My recent forays into the game have just been casual run throughs with friends, so no hostiling was going on lol.
|
Hardcore is too extreme imo. I am tempted to play it because the thrill is awesome but at the same time, if you die then you have to restart from scratch and I'm not 18 anymore, I don't have as much patience for video games as I used to.
They should make it like DnD, when you die, you can get resurected but it costs a shit load of goal and you permanently lose 1 point of constitution (vitality).
So, you still have a pretty massive incentive not to die, and you can still enjoy your character if you croak.
|
Yeah that's the same reason I'm probably going to pass on hardcore in diablo 3. Too many responsibilities nowadays. I haven't even gotten to play a video game in about a month lol.

I was never a fan of Hardcore, either. I much prefer playing these kinds of games in a way of just accumulating my own stash of awesome stuff, until I'd collected at least one of each unique item and complete set in the game, throwing them on different characters and trying them out.
I used all kinds of mods to achieve that goal, like maphacks for boss farming and mods that would only show specific items you wanted it to when you pressed alt (e.g. no greys, whites or blues). I used all kinds of silly UI and non-gameplay-affecting mods, until I discovered a Pindlebot, which I'd just leave running overnight, it would kill Pindleskin over and over again and I'd wake up with a bag full of various uniques, rares and set items. My goal became too easy to reach at that point and I got bored. That was sometime in 2001 or 2002 and I haven't really picked up the game again since.
Never cared about hitting level 99 (the highest I ever got was around 70), doing hardcore, PvPing or getting involved in trading. I had my game the way I liked to play it, and that was just fine.

Why? That's 3 more item slots than Diablo 2. What else would there be in that picture to be disappointed in? The art style?

Well, that pic is disappoint if only because of the ANIMU doll.

Oh mai god!!! What's wrong with her FAAAAAAAAAAAAAACCEEE????

The item art doesnt have nearly the amount of detail of d1 and d2. kind of like the silly small icons of wow

wtf no way they're using that as the inventory -_- thats like worse than diablo1
|
Seriously.. that can't be legit on the inventory. Thats is just beyond horrible. Reminds me of a kids game.
|
They may have made the low level items like that, with no details at all, but higher level stuff looking a lot better. I don't know, it feels kinda strange, but they did say they were making the icons match the gear, and low level gear did look very simple in your character at low levels, even in D2. Still, I hope it doesn't look like that for too long. You won't be staying long at low levels anyway.

comparison for people who might not have played D2 before.
|
I would imagine the reason inventory screenshots weren't included in the press kit is because they aren't final.
|
Battle.net 2.0 I believe anything is possible. -_-
Although it doesn't bother me that much. I long ago stopped caring about what they do to D3. As long as it's moderately fun it'll be alright. I still have D2. (Eastern Sun mod ftw)
