Why does everyone say flat armor instead of armor/level? Just curious. Because some per level runes catch up to flat runes faster than others (ex. mp5 per level seals beat the flat mp5 runes at like level 5, but the cooldown reduction glyphs dont pass the flats until about 13)
i think hes referring to the fact that there is no alternative. I put it for clarity's sake

Yeah, but MR and Armor catch up with MR/L and Armor/L at the same time, I believe. It's around level 10?

I'm looking for a hero with a reasonably high skill cap who will be useful in most games, as I'd likely pick it every game. I've been looking at the hero list and I'm interested by kennen, olaf, gragas, gangplank, ezreal, vladimir and xin zhao. Are any of these good for what I'm looking for? If not, give me some suggestions.
Also, if I could get just a rough skill/item selection for the suggested hero I would appreciate it.
Thanks much,
Knix
Here's a "tier list" ranking of all the heroes by elementz: http://www.leagueoflegends.com/board/showthread.php?t=109533
I wouldn't use the list as a "ZOMG ONLY BUY TIER 1 HEROES" but I do like to refer back to it once in a while. Try out most/all the free heroes for the week and try to find one that you really enjoy playing, then go buy that hero. I've wasted a decent amount of points on supposed Tier 1 heroes that I suck at using and really isn't that much fun to play. I actually have a new policy on not buying heroes unless if I tested them out during the free week.

Because they use flat armour for jungling so it provides a greater benefit at low levels
|
Spell-damage is generally not very scary at the start of a game, especially if you're jungling or 2v2ing. Thus you have a lot more leeway early on with regards to the prevention of spell-based damage. On the other hand a significant amount of zoning occurs from attack damage-based skills or just auto-attacks in general. Also bear in mind that it's a lot easier (and cheaper) to buy chunks of armor as the game goes on. Thus, it's preferred to get flat armor for the early laning (or jungling) strength, while simultaneously favoring the more cost-effective (at late-game) mrpl runes.

Everyone seems to call Amumu a "tank". I don't really get this. His one damage mitigation ability is pretty bad. By the time he can really take a lot of damage, he can almost 1v5 hard carry. So why not call him a carry?

if im shaco and im going to grab the golem at 1 is it better for me to place my boxes right behind the golem or on the other side of the wall behind the golem?

He initiates well, disables well and is enough of a threat to cause enemies to focus on him over other targets. Those are pretty much all the attributes you need to be a tank.

I'm level 19, and I find one of the biggest issues I have in games is people refusing to play tanks. After just going 17-2 with Kog and losing because my entire team was squishy DPS with no tanks or support, I've decided it's time to take things into my own hands and learn to play a tank.
Who are the premiere tanks these days? I own Amumu, Mordekaiser and Nasus. Who else shold I consider? Garen. Abuse that bitch while you can.
How would you spec masteries and build him (considering I'm only level 19)?
EDIT: And thanks for the Galio write-up, Brees, I'm definitely going to give that a shot.

Ashe initiates well, disables well and is enough of a threat to cause enemies to focus on her over other targets. That doesn't make her a tank.
Amumus skills allow him to build him as a tank, since he doesn't need to get lots of AD or AP to be effective. That's why he's a tank.

Amumu's skills hurt/snare people directly around him, or carry him into the other team so he can use said skills. Any champion who benefits from being in the middle of the other team as much as possible is pretty much screwed if he builds anything other than tank items. (also his E mitigates damage, and the cd is reduced when he takes hits).

i like opening mananips (well actually faerie charmx2) into soul shroud on galio because his ult cd is ungodly long, and the HP is really nice on him seeing as the ult itself gives 30% damage reduction and you don't need super high resistances right away. merc treads into aegis next, abyssal after if you need it
|
Baikin just opens Cloak and rushes Abyssal... it's not uncommon to see this Galio rumble out of his corner 20 minutes into a game with Treads, Abyssal, and GA and just take over the game.

This is reasonable, but it just means he should build tanky. I mean, the same could be said of master yi...

?? what u smokin bro...
amumu goes nearly straight tank items, so that he can just barely survive teamfights long enough to cast his ult. All of his skills center around gettting in ppls faces and trying to get them to attack him, and you say hes not a tank?

have fun building ap mummy and dying in 2 seconds
yi shouldn't build tanky because he has an amazing ulti and good damage early. also he doesn't need to build tanky, he doesn't initiate. master yi goes in after the fight is done and picks off casters/squishies.

Galio loses to merc treads. Or am I wrong?
|
He has to cancel his ult sooner than full. His ult is okay, his other skills are better.
