You guys may disagree with me (as demonstrated by the arrogance of saying "the right way to play heimer") but I am extremely successful with my build and you will have to put forth some extremely good proof to change that.
Wow and you call our posts arrogant? I'll leave the calling you out completely to more 'named' people in this thread, but you are just off base with what is an optimal way to build Heimer. You may have success with your current build, but I guarantee you would have more success with a better(not an opinion, fact) build.
Remember that this discussion stemmed from the argument about flat mp5, because that extra 2 mp5 for levels 1-3 is totally worth it.
This feels like a silly question, but how does one go about starting to play this game? It feels incredibly inaccessible.
All of the "1-10" practice games that I've seen hosted are composed of a level 15+ team waiting for low levels to roflstomp.
In each matchmaking game I've played so far, at least one of my teammates runs across the river before minions spawn and dies, proceeds to die once or twice more, then leaves. This prompts the rest of my team to leave.
I don't want to sound whiny, but playing 1v5 over and over again isn't much fun. Do I need to have a group of people to play this game with to enjoy it, or am I missing the "noobs go here to not get trolled" button?
don't join practice games. just play normal queue until you're level 30. the higher level you get, the better your teammates (and opponents!) will be. by level 30 you'll have enough IP to buy your favorite champ and a full runepage of optimal runes for that champ. then you can keep playing normal to farm IP or join the tense, flamer-filled leagues of ranked play
Join the channel "LiquidParty" and look for someone to que with. Even if you're bad, having someone willing to give you pointers and just play a hero poorly without getting horribly raped is a good way to start.

Or just come to liquidparty and see if anyone wants to play with you, if there aren't any low lvl's willing to play I'm sure a lot of experienced players can make a smurf and teach you how to play.

That happens at level 30 in ranked games. In the 1500's. Seriously how did these people get that high?
Well now I feel more confident about asking around in LiquidParty. I joined before I made my first post, saw nothing but lvl 20-30, and the only two or three people active in the chat were raging about noobs. That hardly seemed like an opportune time to make myself known as a noob looking to be less bad. I'll go plead my case in LiquidParty after dinner. (my name on LoL is HeyzeusCristo, in case anybody wants to adopt a scrub ) Thanks for the words of advice to those who posted it, btw.

It is difficult to call someone arrogant without sounding arrogant yourself. Regardless, I am willing to try different builds and if someone wishes to post theirs I will happily try it and I would be willing to do the same. I'm not trying to say my build is the end all be all of builds but I find it extremely effective at how I play.

No see, you found liquidparty so you're at least 50% of the way to not being a noob.
Plus a lot of us have alts that we'd be willing to play, especially off-peak hours and weekends.

And when we rage about noobs we're raging about the ones that just caused us to lose the game because they SHOULD have been better :3 Don't be intimidated by big numbers next to our names!

Tbh, I was taught DotA by a friend and I've taught all my friends how to play. I cannot fathom how one person would randomly pick up a game like this. Understand early/mid/late game, ganking, laning, items, team composition, etc. No idea how someone would simply dive into that while maintaining the motivation to play when a game like this seems to attract all the mentally unstable people in the world.
THIS.
I don't even bother solo queuing anymore. Always duo or more. Gets me less games, but also deal with a lot less rage.

true, but i mean now i can ask in team chat "hey does anyone have olaf? I can pick garen first if you'll take olaf for me" and hopefully someone in like the 5th slot who never used to get garen can get garen, and i don't 'waste' my pick on a not OP champ first pick
Lawl, the Miss Fortune champ spotlight is up. This is the first spotlight I've seen where Phreak actually shows himself dying, not once but 3 times. I suppose people usually complain that the spotlights make the new champs look OP, I don't think there's any risk of that here. I just hope she's not UP, I was hoping to make her my ranged carry of choice since I don't really like any of the others.

Or join, ask to be taught because you have only played 3 games so far and have no previous DotA, LoL, HoN experience. And just get bashed by the TLers you queued with for fucking up and being awful then never return because they were the worst BMers and spiteful people you ever met online.
Experiences may vary person to person
One another note, hooray craigslist. Posted an ad asking for a spare Pax Jax on Wednesday and someone mailed me one this morning.
