Well problem with aegis is that you need to be near allies to give effects so it's IMO counter intuitive to some tanks (like malph) that want to be near enemy carry. Just one example: Your carry with 100 armor gets 12 more armor, he takes 5.7% less damage. The values are even better for magic damage. That might be enough to let him survive 1 more attack, which gives the rest of the team that split second they need to stop/kill the chasers. And the carry doesn't have to delay his offensive items for that, which is a big plus as well (for a team that supports their carries instead of a team of 5 solo players). Meanwhile, your whole team takes Sona's Aura nullifies your Sorcs. Whoopdedoo, I turned it around! And it helps the whole team instead of boosting the damage output of a single champ. Not saying her aura is great (not saying it's bad either), but honestly, you seem to look at everything from a solo player perspective. | ||

I also get aegis on other tanky characters if I don't know what to buy yet, but I guess I should buy a chain armor and negatrons instead  | ||

Aegis makes your whole team tougher and if you see an opportunity where making everyone that much tougher will let you gain a great advantage, then buying an Aegis at that moment is the best idea you could have with that 2k gold. If you only went by play which was useful in the late game most of the items and champions would never be bought or played. | ||
