Artix Entertainment has made a bunch of free flash games with storylines that they update every week. With optional upgrades (paid) that allow you to do a little more. Awesome games you should all check them out.

It's like dota in flash form with tanks, it's actually very well made. I urge people to try it (but be warned, VERY addictive). It's multiplayer 2 minimum to 12 maximum.
You have the option of 8 tanks (2 of which you have to pay to play), each with three specials. You level up in each game, along with fixed attribute increases (life, dmg, armour, etc) you gain one skill point, of which you can use to enhance your special.
Objective of the game is to destroy your opponent's main tower before they destroy yours.
After each game, you gain some site-level points to keep track how long you've been playing (and also separate gosus from noobs). I got to lvl 45 (typically 40+ are the highest requirements for games).

I find this game strangely addicting. I can't explain to you quite why it's different than other asteroid like games but I just can't stop playing it. So far I've been trying to max the additional pixel upgrade first so I can get more income to spend on other upgrades then maxing Rapid Fire next. Not sure if I should max spread shot or pierce next. Or maybe crit.
Pro tip: Not getting hit gives you a chain multiplier. Getting chains to 100+ gives tons of points, so consider staying put over rushing through enemies for pixels or powerups.

how do points benefit you?
i got to level 22 with this strategy:
focus first on upgrading your health regeneration. that way, when you get to the tougher levels, your health regeneration is maxed out and you can run away from the bad guys to regenerate your health if need be. after than upgrade your gun spread once and then max out your gun fire rate.

If you're ultimate goal is to get the highest score you can, points = score? Seems pretty straight forward.
I haven't tried maxing out regen yet, I figured that there wouldn't be enough breathing room to regen in the later levels.
