Any tips for a "bronze" mvc3 player? Macro? lol.
And any suggestions for teams with Dante in it? I've been running Chun, Wesker, Dante but i dunno if that's any good or not...

If you want a tip like "Macro" would be to a bronze player Go into mission mode, do the missions as far as you can. Pick characters you like, go into training mode and just practice links

Haven't watched this video myself since it seems like it's all pretty basic stuff, but should be a great video for beginners. Also, read the SRK forums as well as their MvC3 guide: http://wiki.shoryuken.com/Marvel_vs_Capcom_3 The BradyGames official guide (which Buktooth contributed to) is also probably the very best fighting game guide ever published.

Learn that, and you've just mastered the art of countering assists

If I had to guess, the biggest problem for people is probably the giant wealth of info being too much to sift through. Just having a basic combo or two that you can actually do and a vague notion of how you want to make that combo happen will work wonders. Remember that you're not supposed to just dash in and hit buttons, that'll normally just get you deaded =P Many characters do much better running away and just trying to control space for a while.

People like games that they can pick up and play (i.e. fps's). People don't like games that require you to read the manual or an online guide (i.e. fighting games, believe or not, most people don't know the hadoken motion)

You can pick up and play them just fine. You may not be good or even competent, but you can certainly play it. You're not going to be good or competent at an FPS if you've never played an FPS before either. So the only difference is that most FPS games are team games, that allow your teammates to pick up the slack for you, rather than 1v1 games.

Can we get one of those banners that threads occasionally get at the top? "You can play on a ps3/360 pad just fine, there's no inherent advantage or disadvantage to playing with an arcade stick" Not to rag on you, but this has come up at least a dozen times in this thread alone =P The missions are fun execution practice but I question exactly how useful some of them are. I don't think dante's has the basic relaunch bnb that everyone does, for example, in any of his missions.

And while certainly not required, I personally don't like to play without a stick. It's mostly a preference thing but attack inputs and such are just easier on a stick, though I guess it wouldn't matter as much on a pad with six face buttons (and even that doesn't matter in this game). edit: oops, of course the combo I listed is the basic bnb Trumpet was talking about. x_x While the mission mode combos aren't optimal and many are impractical, going through them is still a good learning tool to figure out in general how a character's moveset works.

I think it's easier to pick up a fps than it is to pick up a fighting game. My friends can pick up fps's and learn very quickly, but fighting games devolve into random button mashing, not actual combos. Same holds true for me. If I want to get good at mvc, I should master the infinites, something I'll only learn through .txt guides and YouTube videos. You don't need a guide to use a sniper in modern warfare.

I think I'm officially switching my Chun anchor for Dante. His jam session is absolutely ballin. Random matchup trick of the day I just learned, when blocking wesker's crazy super where he flies all over the screen, you can xfactor as you block the last hit and immediately super with dante and it punishes clean. I imagine other characters with fast / full screen supers could do similar stuff.
