I've been giving shaco a run lately and he's fun, but since anivia became free she's been my favorite champ. Turns out I love aoe and burst damage. Anyone got any good builds for her? I just open meki + pots and go catalyst then chalice. I grab mejai's if I'm doing well--I think that this is the only exception to win-more, mejais is so crucial on some champs that it's worth it to have it even if you don't expect more than 3 kills the whole game long. If I'm not doing well I go rod first. Lich bane to zhonyas for the win from there.
Anyone have any advice?
Not particularly high ELO (52% win rate, ~140 games), but I'll tell you what I've been doing. Open saph crystal + 2 health pots. Get catalyst asap, then boots. I find that getting level 1 boots is more important than getting the rod considering her ridiculous movement speed. From there finish RoA, get Mejai's if you're owning, else rush for Archangel's given the constant need for mana. From there you're free to do what all other caster characters do, stack AP.
I've been running her without Clarity as a summoner spell, but if you have try without it and see how it goes. Not sure whether it's of any value beyond the first few levels.

I tend to open DFG and then Rylai/Zhonya on casters nowadays. I've tried opening Catalyst but on the many of them I feel like it bogs you down too much.

We are almost at the point where we have enough people in the channel for games most of the time... Need a few more players right now

Sooooo, tonight was horrible. Had a number of games where I didn't play particularly poorly but either I got stuck with a bunch of tards or we had a leaver. Completely brutal and I was so pissed, and I damn near called it a night at a perfectly reasonable hour, but then I decided to play one more and went Jungle Shen. Once again, I'm playing perfectly fine, everything's going according to plan and then BAM, my team reveals it's utter incompetence in the first 2 team fights and we get pushed back all the way to our mid inhibitor tower at half health. Demoralized and looking at our twitch who's went Starks after LW + Veil and was parading around like the other team wasn't packing oracles, I vote yes on the surrender vote and assume my night's over on another depressing note.
But then 2 people voted no and we play out one more team fight, which we miraculously turn into a 4 for 2 that seems to energize our under leveled team to play with a shred of competency. Meanwhile I coach our twitch on the importance of doing actual damage with attacks rather than just maxing AS and turn my Shen into a full blown wrecking ball to boot. 10 minutes and 2 massive team fights at Baron later, I can safely say that I'll sleep well tonight :p
Fuckin' A, I love this game sometimes.

Is DFG any good? I never really gave it a chance because it seemed like the ability wasn't really worth it, but I've never really studied it either. Catalyst does get in the way sometimes if you aren't rushing a rod or banshees, but the survivability if you are getting them is pretty nice. I've been rushing tear on anivia because I don't like having to sell chalice lategame and tear builds into archangel's, which you pretty much need on anivia. DFG though? Worth the investment?

just peeped this thread
i love HoN and dota and, short of going through 114 pages, can anyone give me their opinions on how this game stacks up?

We should just put a big banner on the first page that says "THIS GAME IS WAY BETTER THAN HON AND DOTA"

I have played a lot of DotA/HoN and have played a decent amount of LoL now. LoL is very fun but the main thing you have to know is that the makers stripped a lot of elements that require skill in DotA/HoN out of LoL. No denying, no couriers, no tp scrolls (there is an equivalent spell but it is not the same thing), no stats (this doesn't really mean anything, just something you have to get used to), no control groups (but without couriers or multiple units to control i guess this isn't needed?), no rune control, less emphasis on warding (i may be wrong about this, I haven't played LoL competitively.) There is just less overall stuff to do. They successfully made aggressive team play very advantageous by giving much larger rewards for hero kills than you can receive by farming. The tower's AI is dumb in a way that makes it very very easy to push without an enemy hero present and pretty hard if one is there. Team fights tend to occur more often than in DotA/HoN and they are often resolved more quickly. For me LoL is fun but there just isn't as much to do compared to DotA/HoN. There isn't a whole lot to keep track of so most of the game becomes judgment calls rather than a constant effort to not only be in the right place, but to most efficiently use your time.

No rune control? No warding?
Please disregard everything this man says, he has no idea what he's talking about. Buff and dragon control are honestly the biggest parts of the game once you get past the idea of "not feeding", followed by map control in the form of wards and clairvoyance.

LOL at this. No denying - that's right, ranged characters no longer have this advantage over melee characters! So it's not necessarily "element that requires skill". Denying was as difficult as last hitting is anyway and it created slight imba in favor of ranged chars. No couriers - how does this require a skill lol? You send him to town, buy and return. Allows to stay longer in lane, so it takes away the decision making "should i go back and buy item or will i be needed more in the lane? Oh and i won't get any xp/ gold when i'm in town :|" So i would say that couriers were taking away skill from DoTA/Hon, not the other way around... No tp scrolls - look at "no couriers", it was simplifying the game, not making it harder... No control groups - you usually have only 1 pet and control it by pressing alt No rune control - hello, lizard, golem, dragon, baron? There's a lot more to these "super creeps" than to runes... No warding - :| I can't... No, this is just ugh... There's A LOT of importance in warding

GaoXi if you press ctrl+f it gives you your actual ping in milliseconds, the more you know! I get pings of like 100~110, which is pretty good considering where I come from. Wish there we aussie servers or something though

played the most satisfying game yesterday, i was masteried for mundo but some one took him so I felt like playing shen for lolz with a 21-9-0 setup, and the team we ended up playing was some heal/push gaysquad. Ashe/soraka/heimer/taric/jax, early game was a pain. I fed first blood to jax but then after laning i was 1-1-4 with some ganks. But yea id like to say the reason we won was due to shen's AOE taunt. no healing or anything for like 2 whole seconds is just amazing, and all i had was a mallet for damage was i getting double kills like crazy. ended up 9-2-13 or something, almost as many kills as our corki lol. god i hate these heal teams though.

I am constantly amused by the number of HoN retards that come into this thread and spout garbage nonsense about a game they clearly didn't play much.

On March 26 2010 01:57 Southlight wrote: I feel like LoL is much more difficult than DotA because of how much faster it is. I'd imagine most people that think LoL is easier simply didn't play enough (see: ~150 wins statement), because faster speed also means faster snowballing at the newbie stages. While it might take you 20 minutes to feed on newbies in DotA you'll take like 10 minutes to become godlike in LoL, and then you get the "this game is so much easier!" feeling. For the longest time Baikin felt like the game took much less coordination than DotA, and then once he logged enough games he was like OMFG THIS GAME SO HARD (to coordinate stuff). 'Tis just how it goes :D This seems relevant to the difficulty discussion.

Speaking of speed, difficulty, warding, and key points, one of the things I'm absolutely paranoid about nowadays is warding Baron; the worst feeling in the world is when you're winning or tied with a coordinated enemy and then they get Baron much faster than you expect... lost a game once when a team full of level 11s nailed Baron. Totally caught me off-guard T_T;;
|
that's the 2nd worst feeling in the world. the worst feeling in the world is when you're going for Baron at that point and 2/3 to 3/4 of the way through, the entire enemy team pops out, aces you and finishes Baron :p.
Jeez, level 11 though, that's pretty absurd.
|
Okay, okay, no the worst feeling in the world is when someone snipes Baron.
Especially when it's a Morgana and she snipes it with the puddle XDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
Never had it happen to me though, Extichi stole it once with the puddle and it turned the game around, funniest shit ever.
