Oh and thumbs down to everyone posting RPG bosses as hard /eyeroll
Dude, megaman x5 sigma was fucking hard as hell. Gate, ezpz, and that one black dude he was ez too, X5 was harder than X6. period.

But are you guys kidding? Ilyich is very easy in my opinion, you just need to AoE the room before the duergars even interact. And obviously, go in buffed. My pattern is usually Haste (before going in), Fireball, a couple of Jaheira summons and that's it, just point and click and make sure your party is train assisting each dwarf in the room. But most likely it's a Tactics mod thing tho... Gotta test it out, I only played the game with no mods.
The Planar Sphere boss (the mage dude - Tolgeris or something like that) and specially Kengaxx are INSANELY harder. Kengaxx is actually *impossible* if you attempt him the first time you arrive at the Docks (or any time before lvl 13+). Bodhi is an easy boss, but if you attempt it with no Death Ward at all (as I did in my first time playing the game), you can be pretty sure that at least half your party will die from Finger of Death / Slay Living, as these are the favorite spells the ~8 vampires with Bodhi love to spam.
Dude Tactics mod is like 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000x harder than normal BG.
It is fucking hardcore. I have soloed BG1 a few times and this is absolutly nothing compared to tactics.
Tactic IIyich is the craziest thing ever: 3 druegars warriors ~ level 12 BUFFED like hell ( speed etc .... ) with good items ( like +1+2+3 ) using full health potion when they are low on hp + priest level 20 ( or mage ? ) with deva invocation + a demon immune to non magic weapon + a golem immune to almost everything ( don't really remember exactly ).
So basicly you have four "naked" level 7 chars, your best item is a dagger +1 ( well maybe a sword +2 if you did the djinn quest ). I'm almost 100% sure that you can't beat them without using super lame strategy.
The unmoded part of the game are ridiculously soft compared to this.
read this if you want to laught. It took me 4 hours to beat the first level lol. And although i'm not the most experienced Baldur player around i know what i'm doing. http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/viewblog.php?topic_id=80850 I stopped after Maevar because it isn't even fun ( unmoded part of the game seems too easy and moded are just lame ).
And there are Tactics versions of Bodhi, Irenecus, Kangaxx, Friegkraag etc ... Even Maevar ( the shittiest boss in normal BG ) is hard to beat with a level 11-12 team ( if you don't get the reflection shield it is painful ). :'(
I am rubbish at playing anything 2D - so I always got foxed by end bosses in old school RPGs (usually on my Ninetendo DS through re-releases. Also for some reason I am awful at beating the final boss on Onimusha 1 - which is weird considering all the others never gave me any problems.
The hardest ones I've ever (failed miserably) to beat - all the ending bosses on the Fatal Frame games - especially the one hit kill ones - I am not scared easily, but the whole looking through the view finder thing (and playing it in the dead of night.) made me lose every time.
Emerald weapon was easy to beat once you had all the gear, namely Knights of the Round summon, three mime materia and w-summon. The problem was grinding up all the AP to grow two new mime materia.
The annoying this about Emerald weapon was that it was impossible to beat without all this stuff and you only needed this stuff to fight Emerald Weapon. A lot of work to beat one boss.

BG2 SoA was too hard for me so I haxxed all my characters... It's a very good game, though.
Emperor Ing as well, but then I discovered Annhilator Beam owns the crap out of him.
Some tough bosses. If you hate thinking about that fight I suggest you don't watch what happens if you have an early power bomb at Boost guardian. I'll give you a clue. One-shot.
I can't really think of 5 bosses I'd call difficult. I've not really got that stuck on a boss. They're either just a lot more powerful than you so once you level up they're easy, or they're really cheap.
I would say the final form of Sir Sweet on Prinny: Can I Really Be The Hero? is annoyingly cheap, especially on Hell's Finest. You have to memorise every one of his attacks and chip away at him (no big damage phases on this guy) and if you get scratched, you're dead. It sounds weird, but he's more cheap that difficult.
Other bosses I find hard are generally in harder difficulties where they have lots of armour/health and do a lot of damage but I don't think that counts toward this thread. I'll just list 5 that I remember as being tougher than most.
5. Gran Bruce from Viewtiful Joe 4. The Old Defender of Earth from Disgaea 3. Ozma from Final Fantasy IX purely because 90% of his attack patterns resulted in death. 2. Sir Sweet from Prinny 1. The Devil from Guitar Hero 3 (expert)
I hope other people know what I mean when I say cheap bosses =/. How about, if you have bad luck, they're impossible. If you get any luck, they're easy.

Agreed. Baldur's Gate is my favorite RPG series ever. SO FUCKING GOOOOOOD in every way, from plot to balance between strategy and hack-and-slash to role-playing elements to kickass subquests and great mods. I've played BGI through at least ten times, and it'll never get old.
Then go through and watch the other parts.....the only way AV has ever died in the past 3 years is only from wall hack, and other game manipulations that S-E patched. AV has yet to be beaten legitimately because it just wtfpwns everyone with AOE Comet.

He's a Mutalisk with 9999 HP, 255 armor, and does 9999 damage. Once you beat him, he spawns 100 Zerglings that has same stats as the Mutalisk. Almost impossible to beat but it's possible.
Its really easy, I beat it first try. Just build a few Dark Archons with maelstrom and then make carriers until you cant anymore. Keep him under maelstrom the whole fight and if he ever manages to get out of it or if you run out of DA energy the worst he'll do is kill a few interceptors because his glaive wurm can't bounce more than three times. Then after first stage is done just go afk while the carriers take care of the zerglings. After about 36 hours they should all be dead assuming one didn't run off into some corner, you should check in every couple hours to make sure carriers are all attacking too. To keep them off your buildings just cycle through maelstroms at your ramp, after the initial rush they lose their attack AI and just sit there idly attacking anything that's near them.
FFXII revenent wings final boss at super low level like 15~20 levels below boss level, he one shots all my ranged units. wtf. took me 20 min to beat the battle using a slow method.
When you dont know the "trick" this guy is stupidly hard... i played it so many times before knowing the trick that i managed to be close to killing him, even with the normal controller port!

I have to agree on this. I began (did not finish; stopped at Quadraxis) a low-percent run, on Normal mode mind you, and the Boost Guardian seriously took upwards of 80 tries to defeat. I loathe him.
Other than that, hm, he's not particularly hard but the so-called MagiMaster from FFIII (US) really pissed me off. He's dwells at the top of Fanatics' Tower. Anyway, once I had finally killed the bastard he proceeded to cast Ultima on my entire party, completely destroying everyone. Life 3 helps.
Honorable mention goes to the bike level in Battletoads (SNES version). It might as well have been a boss, I never finished it.
There was a racing game that i played when i was little, the main boss was freaking impossible to beat. He had a Corvette and still raped me every time even though i had a supped up Ferrari. Was the most frustrating thing until i finally won due to his mistake (he crashed into the wall and i was able to hang in the lead in the final lap).
