K. Rool is always evil
As is the flying missile boss from Contra III
...and The Guy

What is Scarmiglion?
The hardest boss is obviously Archimonde from War3. He has freaking Divine Armor!

I spent a whole night fighting against the final boss of FF8 (the sorceress which turns into a big monster, I don't remember the names). My characters were not very high level but I had 100 Invulnerabilities. I used all of them, and then died just as the sun was starting to rise.
I never tried again.

Man, Baldur's Gate II is the best game ever.
But are you guys kidding? Ilyich is very easy in my opinion, you just need to AoE the room before the duergars even interact. And obviously, go in buffed. My pattern is usually Haste (before going in), Fireball, a couple of Jaheira summons and that's it, just point and click and make sure your party is train assisting each dwarf in the room. But most likely it's a Tactics mod thing tho... Gotta test it out, I only played the game with no mods.
The Planar Sphere boss (the mage dude - Tolgeris or something like that) and specially Kengaxx are INSANELY harder. Kengaxx is actually *impossible* if you attempt him the first time you arrive at the Docks (or any time before lvl 13+). Bodhi is an easy boss, but if you attempt it with no Death Ward at all (as I did in my first time playing the game), you can be pretty sure that at least half your party will die from Finger of Death / Slay Living, as these are the favorite spells the ~8 vampires with Bodhi love to spam.

5. Rahu III from the USA Custom Robo 4. Gauss from Rondo of Swords 3. Prinny Baal from Disgaea 2 2. The Guy 1. Cave Story secret final boss

Irenicus from BG2, didn't play modded BG2 ever.
Ancients on hell of D2:LOD first play through. I've been soooo mad trying to kill them with quite a low level, they seemed unbeatable plus getting few more levels didn't help at all, really they win hardest boss title hands down. Esp. considering that they aren't even final bosses.
King's Bounty final fight (hard to call it "boss" since you fight with armies in that game) - overall game difficulty is really high, but final boss was really pain in the arse, and the way this game is constructed made it even harder - limited exp-pool (enemies don't re-spawn like in hack'n'slashes or jRPGs) + exp requirements rise way higher with each level but opponents don't give THAT much more exp.
Dunno why people think put any of the jRPG games' bosses here, they aren't hard once you hit max lvl, which is not that hard - this genre is mostly about grinding. They are more annoying than hard - just because jRPG's designers have this stupid habit of making final battles lasting like 2-3 hours with all these transformations and comebacks of bosses. It's kind of Power Rangers-like Japan freakness lol Megazord, hiperzord, hiperultrazord T_T

Its the Tactics mod. The unmodded game is nothing compared to the addition of the Tactics mod. Hell, packs of regular enemies end up harder than most of the unmodded bosses.

I personally found Flandre way harder than Remilia. The mechanics of EoSD makes her the hardest boss of Touhou ever for me. And - Maze of Love. T_T

That god damn bitch from DoA4. It doesn't matter that i get A- rank online, she still just does stupid shit that owns me in 3 moves
Kokoro is cool though

T_T Maze of Love is one of the easiest spell cards I've ever seen. Just run in a circle around Flandre D: I personally find Kagome Kagome harder to deal with. Maybe it's just my inability to dodge bubble bullets. Q.E.D and And Then There Will Be None are the hardest to capture IMO. ATTWBN only because of the transition between the blue bullets and the shots coming from the walls stage.

Emerald Weapon from FF7. What a pain. Every Tohou extra stage boss.

Bass Final Encounter - Megaman Battle Network 6 (WTF INSANE.. YOU GOTTA FIGHT ANOTHER BOSS TO GET TO BASS...)
Chainsaw Majini - Resident Evil 5 (1hit KO ftl.. its only lv 2-1 :l )
First guy you race against in Atlanta, Georgia - Midnight Club Dubbed Edition
Nebula - Megaman Battle Network 5 (eh....)
Kid Buu - DBZ BT

Heh, I never remember boss names... And I never played console games much, but BG2 bosses were indeed very hard and I can't think of anything else Especially the expansion bosses.

I'm going to restrict myself to bosses that were hard but in a fun, legitimate way rather than a purely broken kill-you-in-one-hit-for-no-reason way. I'll list bosses that made for a tense, exciting battle rather than being an artifact of the designers writing whatever numbers they felt like for the damage variables.
5. Ozma from FF9 was powerful, but didn't require the mass grinding most of the other FF secret bosses do. Beat it in part due to good luck with the Phoenix Pinion. Dragon Quest V final and secret bosses were also tense for a normal level but fully doable without grinding. Can't put any more RPGs on this list because you can always grind to make them trivial. 4. Airman can't be defeated. Or at least Dr. Wily or Sigma. 3. Blind (4th underworld dungeon boss, the one whose disembodied heads that fly around the screen shooting fireballs) from Zelda: A Link to the Past when you're playing a minimal item run. In the normal game you have enough potions that it doesn't matter, but when you actually need to do more than mindlessly whack away it is suspenseful. 2. Touhou has some fun bosses. I thought Nitori's, Alice's, and Hong Meirin's spellcards were the coolest to play against, though there are much harder ones. 1. Final boss series of Cave Story killed me so many times at first. Then on my second playthrough with a different weapon it was a really fun, not so hard fight. Secret boss is even harder because of the level before it.

However, if you are leveled up and have the right equipment, and the right (fairly simple) strategy, it's actually not difficult. I'm sure you eventually realized that :p
