Heya Community,
Zugzwang here! One of my new year’s resolutions was to get up the courage to post a link on this board to my YouTube channel, called (shockingly) Zugzwang Starcraft.
I’m a huge fan of this forum so I’m a bit humbled by the sheer weight of collective knowledge that you can find here. I wanted to do what little I could to help support the sport and fandom, particularly after I learned Starcraft is going to get a second chance to remain a part of our lives.
Hopefully you can find something of interest to you!
Here’s a link to the actual channel:
www.youtube.com <---Zugzwang Starcraft
But since nobody cares about that, here’s a link my most watched vid so far so you can see if this might be something stylistically that floats your boat.
youtu.be <---Special vs. Scarlett
ButAlways is possibly my favorite player right now – the dude is bonkers in a truly good way. Here’s a game in which he takes on Serral (some unknown zerg-player, we’ve never heard of…)
youtu.be <---Serral vs. ButAlways
If you didn’t catch the Neeb v Soo game from this years Nation Wars, this was the one to see:
youtu.be <---Neeb vs. SoO
And for some reason this TLO game against Future wound up being pretty special (er unique, not Major):
youtu.be <---TLO vs. Future
Gah! Some of the links above are going to be pre-patch though. If you’re one of those dudes who only has time for current patch VODs, then maybe I can ‘curate’ for you a game of Cure vs Patience:
youtu.be <---Cure vs. Patience
Thanks for checking it out! I know there's a lot of great casts out there already, and I have learned from feedback that I sound way too similar to some guy named Rick from 'Rick and Morty' on too many packs of cigarettes, but, dagnabbit, I love this game.

Really entertaining casting, some good jokes here and there.
Any plans on doing live casting?

Zugzwang, you've already improved so much since you started! You really paint a great picture of what is happening in each game. I could follow these games even if I was listening to it on the radio. IMO this quality is missing in a lot of modern shoutcasting, as it makes Starcraft so much more accessible to those who are visually impaired and anyone who is busy and wants some SC2 on in the background. Furthermore, you bring an excellent baseline hype/enthusiasm that is very engaging, especially for newer or more casual SC2 fans, which I think is the best aspect of your style.
I understand most casters' reasoning for calling SC2 matches like they were golf matches and it generally makes sense for their audiences. But it's content like this that will be effective at drawing new fans of SC2. Personally, I think that the SC2 scene sorely needs more casters with a knack for engaging audiences who are new/unfamiliar with SC2 and getting them excited about the game. SC2 is fast-paced and exciting and deserves a wider audience than it has. Your channel would definitely be the first thing I would use to introduce someone to SC2.
Once you feel you are comfortable with the rhythm of your casting style, I would suggest using the slower few minutes at the beginning of the videos to give a little background narrative of each of the players. If viewers who aren't familiar with one or the both of the competitors are given a little backstory about their rise, career achievements, recent performances etc. of each player, it makes it easier for them to choose one to root for or against. Accentuating any grudges, rivalries, or special relationships can spice things up too, even for longtime SC2 fans. It might take a little bit of research to find good storylines, but it might be worth the effort as it could both draw viewers into the match itself and equip them with a little more SC2 knowledge to build on when they consider watching another video.
Anyway, keep it up! I wish you every success. Your style is very classic and very entertaining and you are getting started at a great time with all the new SC2 tournaments coming up. There are more games than ever to cast! Looking forward to more content!

Thanks ZerglingSoup!!
I'm actually quite disappointed with the lack of build-up on the actual players in my VOD's so far. When I started this, that was one of the few things I thought I would be able to do well. But so far, it's been pretty sparse. I probably get too worked up over the opening builds and then suddenly I'm 4 minutes in and the moment has passed. But that's something I'd really like to see done better because I really appreciate it's presence (or feel its absence) when I watch other casts. It's the human drama that counts and there's a lot of interesting pros out there to say the least.
Also, I'll be honest, I didn't really think about the visually impaired when I tried my hand at casting, but maybe that's my niche!
Really appreciate the feedback!

Yeah man, all I gotta say is you are on the right track. The niche might be a bit larger than just visually impaired as well. I would love to listen to SC2 while I am working in the kitchen or doing other things, and your style opens that option up for me. It's good content.
And yeah, I assume with practice you can make a mental note of what's happening in the opener and catch us up after you've done your initial match hype. Might help to script some stuff out. Anyway, the videos are very entertaining.. keep it up!

The new ESL weekly cups would give you an opportunity to practice if/when you are ready to give it a shot. It seems like it should be easy enough to get an observer seat in some of the early bracket matches at least. The match quality isn't guaranteed, but if one is particularly interesting, you can then put the VOD on YouTube.

Thanks Zergling Soup! I'd love to participate in ESL weekly cups. I've been looking into that and trying to get a handle on what steps I'll need to fulfill to be sufficiently in game-shape for something like that. If I did, I would definitely love to have the finished result in the form of a VOD on YouTube.

I'm a fan!! Felt like I was watching a movie or listening to a podcast, keep up the good work and don't let any haters get to you...this community can be very negative at times

Thanks for that! So far I've been lucky and everyone has been pretty good to me for the most part. But I hear you, anyone foolish enough to try this needs all their armor upgrades!
