To ensure this thread won't be closed, you must adhere to several a number of simple rules;
  • Please use spoilers when quoting a post with pictures and/or videos.
  • When posting large quantities of media (pictures or videos), please begin spoilering after the first piece. Grouping related videos in the same spoilers & labeling is recommended.
  • No reposting of old material unless justified
  • Posting any material with little or no relevent discussion accompanying it
  • No passion-induced flaming of each other because 'x said y sucked' etc.
  • Keep the expression hate of music individuals/groups to a minimal level
  • No 'pagetopping' in any form whatsoever, as it constitutes spam equal to posts similar to 'first'.
  • No vulgar fan fics or wet dream stories. It is creepy, weird, and it dehumanizes the people who you are here to celebrate/discuss.
  • Normal posting standards that you find throughout the rest of the site still apply and will be enforced more strictly from here forward (2012/03/11)

Due to the poor nature of this thread in the past, temporary two-day bans will occur more than often if people slip up.

i reakon if they show something unique and more asianlike (gee) it would have a better chance than some conformist song (the boys). Afterall people expect celebs to fall under their sterotypes.

Yea, we probably would all like it if Americans would be more accepting of kpop. But as the Wonder Girls have shown, the American market doesn't enjoy that genre of music. If Korean groups want to enter the market, they would have to westernize their songs to at least get attention to Korean music in general. Maybe then people will start to find out about kpop and see it in new light.

I would bet you that atleast half the people in America (ok, likely way more) could not point to Korea on an unlabeled map of the Earth. I think Korea itself would have to make more of an impact in the world before kpop can start expanding on the scale that some are thinking of.

That is just what I think though, but I can't really think of any examples that immediately prove me wrong.

To be fair, I dont think I could actually point out korea. I think that I would hit vietnam.

I don't think I could either... I could point out Japan pretty easily though.

lol you can't be serious since South Korea is right beside Japan.

I have. I don't know man, I just think she is over-hyped and overrated (although still a very good singer). Maybe it's preference, but I think she substitutes good control with trying to overpower notes with her voice. I'm also not a fan of her husky voice so that probably contributing to why I don't like her as much. She has power, yes. She is a good singer, yes. She is not the top top of singers though.

I've been watching some Ailee videos and she just seems much better and pleasing to the ear. Her stage presence and charisma is also very rare as although she hasn't debuted, she takes control of the performance. ANYWAY, ITS ALL SUBJECTIVE SO ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Have you ever considered going into marketing? I think you'd improve the lives of everyone everywhere. I'd love to start my day off opening my Samsung fridge and then BAM! Kpop girl of the week! BAM! Nose Bleed!

I am in marketing.

Only people already into kpop would care. Everyone else would just be pissed that it takes a couple seconds longer for their shit to turn on and become usable.

Is the English really that bad? Maybe it's my 10+ years attending Asian dominated schools but I can listen to their English perfectly fine. It's much better than a lot of my friend's English. In fact, I'd say they're pretty fluent--very little accent. I cannot emphasis how little it is to me.

Though I would cringe because the lyrics...

I don't understand why people talk about the lyrics of "the boys" and say they're stupid (they aren't even that bad. especially what they sand in this remix). Have you guys listened to your local radio stations lately? This is what fits in America. You're all used to listening to K-POP. The Boys ISNT k-pop. Just looks like it.

That's why I don't listen to North American music. Lyrics are terrible. Actually I can't even hear 80% of the stuff they say because they enunciate so poorly. Well damn, I just realized I can hear the boy's lyrics but I can't hear lyrics from North American artist's who's native language is English.

No no no, you can't just throw that "American songs on the radio already have lyrics that don't make sense" to justify the actual broken grammar, structuring, and purpose of The Boys. If you have listened to the radio in America, although you may not like it, each song does have some sort of purpose/meaning and the lyrics do make sense. Yes, The Boys isn't k-pop, but it isn't american music also. I actually don't know wtf kind of music it is, its that much of an abomination. It's like Teddy Riley and a K-POP composer took turns adding lines and not talking to each other.

I feel like there's a difference between shit lyrics and lyrics like "call an emergency/I'm watching the phone ring" that makes sense gramatically but doesn't mean shit.

Exactly. Tell me honestly, when you listened to The Boys english version for the first time you didn't know what the hell the song was about. Apparently my friend that likes SNSD says that it makes sense in Korean but when it's translated its broken.

Well I knew it was a giant brag post. You need to take giant leaps of assumptions when you listen to Asians speak English, but you'll usually be right.

I'm not trying to justify the lyrics by calling it American pop I'm just letting you know that it's American pop and song lyrics have been shit for a long long time.

EDIT: Maybe I'm just tired of people complaining about things in general.

"What you gon' do with all that junk? All that junk inside that trunk?/I'ma get, get, get, get, you drunk, Get you love drunk off my hump."

EDIT2: One of my personal favorites from another lady trying to break into the American scene

"Lucky that my lips not only mumble/ They spill kisses like a fountain/ Lucky that my breasts are small and humble/ So you don't confuse them with mountains"

Yes. Those lyrics make sense. They are inane, but you understand what they're trying to say. She got ass she got tits, she knows you like dat ass. She knows you like dem titties. The boys lyrics? No idea what they're trying to say.

I can understand what they say, but there's just differences in the pronunciation that makes it somewhat uncomfortable for me to listen to.
