Just to make sure, when you guys says A's you mean Special A's? Guess that'll be on my to-watch list along with Nanoha and StrikerS.
I tried to start Bakemonogatari but I stopped after seeing multiple instances of lines in each frames. Is moving frame-by-frame the only way to watch it? Is there a site where someone compiled a list of those moments?

I just finished eopisode 4 and I have to say I love the pacing of the series so far. Just enough in each episode to make you genuinely interested in the next episode, without resorting to cliffhanger endings. I'm a bit of a sucker for shows that have serious emotional components, but I find that so many of them bother me for other reasons.
But yeah, so far the only 2 anime that have successfully brought a tear to my eye have been Hourou Musuko and Simoun (that show has some really deep messages if you look for them). Actually, I think Piano might have also have, now that I think of it.
Anyone care to suggest something like those? I'm always looking for something to watch and I find myself enjoying that sort of thing more than most other anime. The thing is, there are also a million romance anime out there that just bother the hell out of me (Kanon, etc. etc.) so I have a hard time figuring out which ones are actually worth my time.
I'm watching Hourou Musuko too. I haven't gotten around to watching ep 4 yet though. The show is extremely touching an emotional. I love it. It's probably the best show of this season besides Madoka (subjective).
I watched episode 1 of Madoka, and I don't know if I can get past the magical girl aspect (never been one of the genres I like), but it does seem very interesting.
I've also been watching Fractale and Gosick, and honestly, I think that Fractale, Gosick, Madoka and Hourou Musuko are probably the only anime worth watching this season, and that makes me sad.
Madoka is anything but a typical magic girl anime. It's shaping out to be one of my favorite shows, ever.
I haven't watched Fractale 4 yet, but from what I've seen it's been nothing too special or original. And I dropped Gosick because the mystery aspect was just sketchy at best.
And yeah, it can be kinda hard to tell the characters in Hourou Musuko apart. It took me a while to figure out who the female lead was -_-
I never meant to imply that it was anything close to a traditional magical girl anime, but the fact that it still is close enough to be lumped into that genre may be enough. Then again, I DID watch Magic Knight Rayearth (and love it to death, as well, despite the fact that my GF hinted that that was a bad thing). I may pick it up sometime later when I have more free time.
I just watched Fractale 4, and I'm not gonna spoiler anything, but I like the direction things seem to be going, the plot is beginning to go somewhere. And as for originality, I can't really comment on that, half the stuff I considered to be somewhat original (or an original take on an idea) most other people I know scoffed at :/
And yeah, the whole mystery thing in gosick is pretty transparent. But I like the characters, and I'd like to see it become a whole lot less episodic, because there's plenty of room for expanding on the relationships and actually making a plot worth watching there. It's just a matter of moving away from the "case an episode" style... (They could pull a Witch Hunter Robin and make it interesting halfway through or something)
Edit: Man this thread moves fast, I'm not used to threads on forums that move this quickly, lol. The forum I spend most of my time on has a grand total of about 10 people who actively post, and even our major threads usually take a year to reach 100 pages, lol.
Normally I would be okay with watching a show if one character is extremely moe (like Victorique, who is a goth loli, one of the greatest character archetypes I can think of), but I can't bring myself to watch a mystery show where the mysteries are terrible.
well, considering the other shows on right now it's not hard to find an extra 30 minutes a week, to see if the show is going to get better.
Thankfully I have enough finished shows to keep me occupied
Ahh, yeah, I'm actually having quite a bit of trouble finding finished shows that I want to watch. I'm not one of those people who goes to insane depths to find stuff, and has near encyclopedia knowledge of anime in general, so I can't just whip off the name of some show I haven't watched and think "ok, I'm gonna watch this now". I did try watching Fist of the North Star, but I found it hard to keep watching something that damned long. I swear I will finish it one day :/
I don't know if you'd survive LoGH then

Haven't played the VN, but the anime was meh at best.
Actually, it was freaking amazingly epic awesomeness at its best, but that was one episode. The rest was meh at best.

Concerning Bakemonogatari: In the early part of the episode one, starting with the 'Blood' along with the Kanji character, you see flashes of lines that are too fast to comprehend without pausing. Perhaps this is the opening?

Thanks for the link, as far as genres go, it's hard to explain. I like things less based on the genres, and more based around whether I actually enjoy watching it or not. I've watched shows like Darker than Black, and then I've watched stuff like Simoun and Hourou Musuko, and lots of things in between :/
After a quick check on chart one, I've seen a great deal of those (or checked them out, or ruled them out as not gonna watch), lol. I'm getting to the point where I actually want to look for obscure OVAs and short series and such, stuff that is quite far away from mainstream.

Right, I remember what your talking about now. IIRC the subs I watched actually subbed those lines, but I rarely paused for them. They mostly were something like a thought about something. They were like, one line philosophical musings on something related to what was going on, or something. I never paid them too much attention.
On February 06 2011 17:14 Wala.Revolution wrote: Oh, if it doesn't continue on then I will just slow-forward. I have a good feeling about it and it has a good reputation so it'll be enjoyable.
Well, I think after I paused for them once or twice I realized they really weren't important, they just kinda added to things. I didn't get very far, but I think they continued (albeit more rarely) through all the episodes I did watch. I really should continue that one too.
I'd definitely suggest watching it, as even if they do bother you, it is a really good show, and the art is awesome.
And I'm watching Madoka episode 2... The scene with Hitomi made me laugh a bit. Maybe I will start watching this.

No, the problem with strikers was that they introduced a whole bunch of boring characters and half of the show was stupid training bullshit. Those two clips you showed were the only good moments of the series.
A's was good though.
I think you are exaggerating way too much. Assuming you do actually agree with me that those two clips were good, there were plenty of other parts that were similar. I didn't even link to parts where Vita or Signum did stuff, and they both had their moments. There was alot of training in the show, mainly in the first half, but there were still actual combat missions, and then the second half of the show was alot better after + Show Spoiler +
their base got destroyed, and they relocated back to the Asura
. And even before that there were plenty of moments where people like Nanoha and Vita would go out and blow things up. I also disagree with the idea that "training=bad", but thats more opinion than anything.
Erio and Caro sucked as new characters, but GaoGaiGar-tan and Teana were decent characters. Or at least, they aren't boring characters compared to others in the series.

Since you seem to like the show, could you explain why people actually like that? Everything I've seen makes me want to hate Nanoha. I am genuinely interested in what you like about the show though. (I'm really not trying to come off as an ass or anything, but everything I've seen just makes me feel like I hate the show without ever having seen an episode.)
People who think they'll hate a show without ever watching an episode make me sad :/
Nanoha works because it mixes bullshit mahou shoujo happy happy idealism with shounen action sequences. Honestly, I personally think it only works in A's, but it works well. The characters are interesting enough (way more interesting than 90% of shounen characters) and the fight scenes are well done.
That said, there are lots of better shows out there. For me season 1 was tolerable (movie is much better), season 2 was good, season 3 was crap. If you're interested I'd watch the movie to kinda get an idea of what Nanoha is like.

Nanoha actually isn't a Mahou Shoujo show. Its a Mecha show cleverly disguised as Mahou Shoujo.
Madoka kicks Nanoha's ass because it subverts all of the idealistic bullshit of the Mahou Shoujo genre. Watch it instead.

Watch Bakemonogatari. You don't have to read every little text flash. That's just for artistic effect.
Don't watch Nanoha. I watched 1 1/2 seasons before I realized that it was a shitty show.
Also, F/SN anime is handled much better than the Tsukihime anime. You should give it a try. If you really want to see something good though, watch the Kara no Kyoukai movies. They are exquisitely done, to say the least.

The FSN anime is shit compared to the VN. They mostly follow the main route, but took random parts from other routes for seemingly no reason. And the UBW movie is essentially two hours of fight scenes without a coherent story. Just read the VN. It's a huge time commitment, but the story is so much better, it's not even funny.
Ecael would probably tell you to play Tsukihime before you play FSN though. I wouldn't disagree. The Tsukihime anime is also shit, in case you were wondering.

For once I agree with you. He does get slightly more bearable in the non-Fate routes though.

I think one reason some Nanoha fans don't like it, is because the 3 heroines in the show grow up into women, and they are like "BAWWW NO MORE LOLI"
Nanoha and Fate's epic moments in Strikers were so good too, lol + Show Spoiler +
No, the problem with strikers was that they introduced a whole bunch of boring characters and half of the show was stupid training bullshit. Those two clips you showed were the only good moments of the series.
A's was good though.
Thanks for the straight answer. It certainly doesn't sound very appealing to me, but maybe I will watch the movie just to see.
Nanoha actually isn't a Mahou Shoujo show. Its a Mecha show cleverly disguised as Mahou Shoujo.
And then there's Nanoha Force which is slightly less cleverly disguised. Seriously, I was like WTF when I first saw the designs.
Nanoha works because instead of being a "hardcore" mahou shoujo show, it's about beating your enemies into submission with giant ridiculous beam attacks until they become your friend. There's less focus on the cute (although there's plenty of that regardless) and more of the "holy crap did they just do that?" type stuff.
Why would you and Ecael recommend to play Tsukihime before F/SN? I thought the latter was better and F/SN was on the 'good for newbies' section of a chart so I started with that.
