Current candidates death note and code geass. I still believe that Your Name is a fantastic gateway-movie to get people who aren't into anime into anime. It's a movie so it's pretty good in a "just watch this one thing and see for yourself!" way rather than having 12 episodes you have to go through. More often than not the stuff isn't on netflix after all and those normie's tend to not like that kind of thing unless it's on netflix (at least in my experience). It's also surprisingly "normal" for anime standards. Yes it has it's supernatural moments as well as somewhat cliché moments but those are more romance than anime things imo (aside from the bodyswap I guess, that's pretty animu) Not like it's a masterpiece or anything but it's just really easy to watch and enjoy for most people. So unless that's too cheesy for her I'd just start with that. The visuals also help because it certainly is eye-candy right there, which is something nice for people who think of Pokemon etc when they think "anime"
You are not doing Your Name justice I am afraid. Name me a single anime that has these kind of graphics and immersion. Well anime movies are different from series tho so that I will give you ^^

Well anime movies are different from series tho so that I will give you ^^ Redline easily has superior animation, then again, bringing up redline is almost cheating in that regard. There's also plenty of anime i would consider more immersive. That movie was carried by good visuals but i still only rate it 8/10, with average anime movie visuals it would go down to like 6/10 at most imo.
The story was serviceable and i still think the characters in Your Name were incredibly weak. I don't even remember their names because they were so incredibly forgettable (Ironic considering the title of the movie).
Wolf children is a more immersive movie by the way.

Garden of Words? GitS both first two are breathtaking. Sword of a Stranger is one of the best choreographed anime out there. Basically all the Ghibli are great in different ways and drawn beautifully. Satoshi films like Prefect Blue are crazy good, just a bit umm crazy haha.

Sword of the stranger's last battle is so fucking well done.
Studio bones has if nothing else remained a studio that pumps out super high quality animation.
|
The thing that makes that movie to me is just how clean the action is in any scene. You can tell thought went into how to construct the scene along with what they wanted the "camera" to be doing. FMA:B has such cool fight scenes because of Bones I rate. Those guys are just so good.
Ufotable makes things look pretty but they kind of messy in how they construct scenes. KnK suffers this a few times where it looks awesome while being a complete mess that you can't really follow. They got a bit worse for some reason in Fate Zero too.

https://sakugabooru.com/data/014cec1111ecb78bace2fd8299314976.webm Posting a webm of the scene for anyone to watch, this is so clean and well choreographed that it's a joy to watch
On that note i really fucking hate the modern trend in both live action and to some degree in animated works to use shaky cam to make things seem intense. I wanna follow the action damnit! Sword of the stranger moves its camera around a lot as the fight gets hectic, but never once do you as a viewer lose track of what's happening. But yeah, i try to pick up most things bones make simply because they seem to attach people to their projects that truly seem to care about the animation if nothing else.

Shakey cam has it's uses. Mad Max Fury road does that scene with Max in the tunnel with the camera flaying around to make the viewer feel like max does. It's an awesome use of camera techniques and editing. Overall I think people just use shakey cam as a clutch so they don't have to use time and money to choreograph the scene or teach/train actors to do it well.
Anime I think just has a general lack of preparation due to how the industry operates so it's tough to actually do scenes like that. It sucks
Ufotable is great in that regard yea. I just wish they improved on their other aspects. I haven't watched the newer fate stuff so not sure if I'm just speaking about the old studio when they actually are doing this. They make stuff look really pretty which is awesome.
edit: Talking about Fury Road may be cheating, that movie was just incredible. The fact that they actively storyboarded every single shot before going to shoot instead of merely having a script really shows in the camera work.

Sword of the stranger is cool but it needs some superpowers or mechas. That's the high octane action I want. I rather watch a scene made by Orange. Still waiting for kyoani to make a chuu2 anime.

Franxx was good. Wrapped up the previous two episodes pretty nicely and gives us a look at "Papa" and those fuckers. Wonder what will happen next week.

Yea Franxx rolling right along. Some low key reveals this ep.

Tons? I mean, Numy and Unleashing have named quite a few but even Garden of Words by the same director has better immersion...

I mean, this "SOL" episode had pretty ominous vibes starting from the beginning of new OP lol

Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu (Legend of the Galactic Heroes) big question + Show Spoiler +What feels like the first story arc came to an end (Reinhardt won the war, Yang retired), but there are still like 50 episodes left. Should I keep watching or does the following arc get worse?

The 3rd part is the best part of the show IMO. The 4th/final part is really good as well.

okok, thanks. I guess I've just been burned a bit too hard by series like Death Note in the past. :3

Fair enough, Death Note has incredible reputation even though the second half is just terrible. But yeah, I would sign that the third arc of LotGH is probably the strongest and the last one is pretty good as well.
