No, we need our TLADT version of Big Brother. Toad x Emjay is pretty much part of my weekly nutrition by now.

This. The further it goes the more you realise how brilliant the build-up was.

Best part about the show is when you give it some thought and put the pieces together to realize the whole story, just amazing.
agree about toad bit above lol

Am I the only one that quite liked the opening when they were still kids? Only when squealer showed up did I feel it got a bit weak until picking up later.

Uhm, I liked that part? It's still slow and you still mostly realise later how good it actually was. That doesn't mean I didn't like it. I would like it more on a rewatch I guess though.

Holy shit I watched that Porter Robinson music video "Shelter."
It was fucking garbage.
Not even going to link because of how offensively bad it was.
I didn't think you could cram everything wrong with anime into six minutes, but holy shit did he do it.

Sounds like a nice experience. At least it only lasted 6 minutes I guess?

That wasn't my question though.

Unfortunately, you don't get a choice in this

Everything IceHism. Everything.
I mean first of all, you have a guy who can build a rocket, launch it into space, build endless dreamscape simulations, attach someone's conscious to it, and keep someone on life support for over 7 years with no discernible food, water, or air aboard the spacecraft.
But he doesn't have time to build a second seat.
Also, the "thank you" at the end was the most inappropriate use of the cliche I've ever seen. "Thanks dad for sending me into space to suffer incurable loneliness until one day I, as the last potential human being in the universe, die out in the middle of nowhere with nothing but these 'fond' memories of my days with you. Thanks. Best dad 2016."
Finally, I am in general against this use of just the "cute girl" as a means of playing to our base emotions. I know this happens all the time in anime, and I shouldn't be so upset over it, but I think this particular short abuses it in such an insufferable way with the montage and the fact that she's clearly designed to be super stylized and attractive.
Like imagine if this story was told with an innocent shut in NEET but is super ugly. Someone like one of the girls from the Princess Jellyfish manga. Okay, maybe not the best example, but you get my point. The only reason we care is because she's cute and defenseless. Her loneliness is only made real to us because we feel that sort of attraction to her design.
Which I think is offensively bad.
Also I wrote a review and it's the second to top review. Should read it. Then you should read all the salt on my comment wall. It's fucking delicious.

If only they'd put znf in that role.
Then I'd shed some tears.

Some guy wrote to me:
"Yea, maybe you should work on trying not to be edgy for the sake of being edgy. Have fun trying to function like a normal human in society with that toxic attitude. You disqualified yourself from reasonable discussion first for giving a 1 to a series that clearly didn't deserve it and intrinsically claiming that something that doesn't align with how you view the world is thus shit. Also, try to work on sounding less condescending when you're offering an "opinion" to the table. That doesn't really lend it's way to reasonable discussion when you always imagine yourself on a podium several miles higher than the one you're trying to "discuss" things with. Try not to contaminate any more art with your toxicity."
I laughed.

Just read the review and I agree with the first paragraph. I was wondering why you hated it so much with its pretty good visuals and okay audio but if your main gripe is with the story then I agree. I personally didn't see it as anything except Porter's music with some nice animated sequences. Essentially a music video. Which is why I could sort of say "oh these effects are pretty neat" and leave it at that. I'm surprised people are emotionally touched though.
