Sorry, going quote myself and nostalgia out for a second. As a kid, I totally nerded out over Toonami before they started being terrible. Like, that's where I first saw Gundam Wing, Robotech, Zoids, and DBZ. I remember when they used to do the midnight anime before Adult Swim, things like Outlaw Star (awesome). Giant Robot Week (Eva, Robotech, Nadesico), the IGPX events (annually if I remember correctly), Blue Submarine No. 6 (which I still haven't seen all the way through).
Seriously, that was the best thing as a kid. Then it started sucking and got cancelled :\

Yeah, that was Toonami's golden age. It sucks they canceled Robotech so early in its life, and they never even showed the entire series lol.

Looking through the list on what they aired, I didn't get to see Robotech when I started watching DBZ. I wonder why it got canceled early.
Also I might have to rewatch G Gundam because as a kid I hated that show with a passion. After watching Wing as my first Gundam show, I expected G Gundam to be similar to it but I was so disappointed when I saw a lot of things that does not make anything sense. That made me not wanted to watch the other Gundam shows until later on I watched Gundam 00.

I didn't care for G Gundam back then either, and it really is very different from all the other Gundams. But back then they aired the original, 08th Team, 0080, 0083, and Char's Counter Attack on Toonami, so it didn't really effect my view of Gundam overall.
I think they aired Robotech's Macross and Southern Cross sagas all the way through twice, but never the New Generation saga, and after that they pulled the plug. I guess they could only do re-runs so many times, and its not like it was DBZ length.
G is really different than most Gundams. While a lot of them are similar to the original MSG in that they (at least try to) blend character depth, political intrigue, and fight sequences, G just decides that it wants to watch giant robots fight and have absurdly fun stereotypes as characters. If you go into it expecting like, a deep story, just don't. It's meant to be enjoyed surface-y, like most Super Robot shows.
Yeah, I don't think they ever finished Robotech. Isn't the American version they aired different, though? Like spliced together from different shows?

Robotech is the American version where they spliced together 3 different shows. Super Dimensional Fortress Macross, Space Cavalry Southern Cross, and Genesis Climber Mospeada were all their own, separate anime with no connection to each other in Japan. When people wanted to bring Macross over to the US, problems with syndication and stuff eventually lead to Carl Macek deciding rewrite the 3 series into one continuous series called Robotech.
When Robotech aired on Toonami, they just for whatever reason only showed the Macross and Southern Cross parts. The show was finished, and had been aired in its entirely back in the 1980s, and even early 90s, but for whatever reason Toonami never showed the entire thing.
Well its just me being an ignorant kid back then because I never knew of the Super Robot shows(until I saw G and TTGL). I knew 08th Team and 0080 were aired but I did not get the chance to see them or any of the other Gundam shows. So yea I miss alot and I pretty much regretted. I'm thinking of marathoning the whole Gundam shows from the UC timeline for the summer.
Edit: Btw, thanks for linking that Double K comic, I laughed so hard from that haha.
Just read Getenrou, great stuff. Good combination of SF, mystery & comedy. Very well plotted story. No wonder it got recommeded by Akiyuki Shinbo. Hope it could be animated, could be as good as Madoka.
I only vaguely recall watching G Gundam on Toonami. I don't even know if I finished it or not. I was so young and stupid back then...should I re-watch it? If so, sub or dub (since Blast says dub is actually good)?

I never said the dub was better than the sub. I said the dub was better than most other dubs I have seen. Scratch that it's got the best dub in everything I've watched so far
hahaha oh wow those 2 videos gave me so much nostalgia. "THE EAST IS BURNING RED" and "Take this! My love, my anger, and all of my sorrow!" are super nostalgic. Two of the lines I actually remember from it. Definitely will rewatch it now.
Well Im all caught up on Mirai Nikki. And jeeze, good shit is good.
Dat constant mindfuck...
Looks like its gonna be at least another 3 weeks before I decide to catch up on this anime again, haha. Dunno if my brain can handle the craziness yet.
I wasn't allowed television as a kid so all I got from Toonami were smatterings of DBZ, Wing, and Outlaw Star.
Thus I still haven't finished G Gundam, even though I've used Shining, God, Darkness Fingers in SRW and SDGGen several more times than G Gundam has episodes. What about a TLADT group watch?
Requizen I can't say whether as a whole G Gundam translations are corny or the source lines themselves are just that awesome. At least the lines that show up in SRW and the first quarter or so that I've seen would all qualify as corny, but it's alll goooood.

So you're one of the few people who didn't go marathon the manga already? In that case, you still don't know what crazy is. But don't worry, Yuno will teach you. Oh yes...look forward to it is all I'll say.
