Guess it had to be a part of the movie for the story to be complete. Can't fault em for doing it, didn't feel like it took anything away.
I liked it. Feel it didn't dominate the film, but illustrated the concept of time loops and an understable way, that for me was moving and thought provoking. Would you allow yourself to love if you knew how and when you lose it.
Exactly! Movies like that are just amazing. Very much liked ex machina too, a different topic but also very thought provoking.
Anyone who can recommend similar movies as those? Would be happy to know.

The only one that I can come up with is Donnie Darko. Old one about distrub kid and time travel. Low budget movie with both Jack and Maggie Gyllenhaal in it. One of my favorite, but different each time I watch it give me different thoughts. You probably know the song of the movie Mad World

I'll definitely check that out thank you. About the Mad World song yeah, I personally don't know anyone who doesn't.

Maybe I misremember it, but IIRC the physicist declares his love in one of the climactic moments (when the Alien ship moves and the humans are left to guess if it's a hostile move or not) and it came out of nowhere for me. Or I was just completely blind for their apparent chemistry. Alternatively, such a big event can trigger a big reveal and I can soften my stance a little bit if I view it this way.
Also, Moon is great.
Could Memento be seen as a 'time loop' movie? There's also Looper for very obvious reasons.
If anyone here hasn't seen Vampire's Kiss.... You have to watch it. Its like the garden of eden of Nic Cage memes, and its a genuinely hilarious watch. Its got the alphabet sequence which to me is THE quintessential Nic Cage scene, its got Cage eating a live cockroach and some of the most uncomfortable scenes I've ever seen on film. The whole end sequence is fucking insane. 9/10. I can't tell if its stupid comedy or thought provoking horror, but its just great.
Last night i watched Fried Barry (2020) A large, strange looking South African man takes alot of drugs and may or may not be abducted by aliens and and may or may not have his consciousness replaced by an alien. This film is absolutely gross, and strange. Its also hilarious. If you like creepy sex, hilarious faces being pulled, and the odd bit of horrific violence with your drugs this movie might be for you. 7.5/10 Trailer: + Show Spoiler +
Oh no, mauler is like the worst part of youtube film criticism one can think of, especially because his videos are that long. It's mostly nitpicking the most stupid things which barely matter instead of making concise criticism about storytelling itself. There's a reason 'real' critics in general don't harp on every plot convenience and logic problem (ofc with exceptions), there is a reason literary analysis one learns in school focuses on interpretation, form, themes, etc. There is no reason to make a 4h video rambling about everything which is typically part of basic suspension of disbelief, it's truly the most lazy thing one can do and requires zero understanding of storytelling, anyone can look at something and go "well this isn't realistic", oof. Tell me why something is effective or not and what it means, like good criticism is supposed to do. And for the love of god, do it in a succinct manner instead of recording a video where you go through it frame by frame while basically repeating the most basic points a million times over. God i hate this.

Yeah I'm not watching a 4 hour vid about how a film that was never going to be anything better mediocre was disappointing. Its a shame that so much effort is wasted on it. Clearly the script etc. require alot of prep for a video like this, but I can't see more than 5% of people who start watching carrying on until the end.

I assume it's for a very small niche community (film students etc) and not for the genpop. I'd also assume it's background noise for those people as well as they work on something else. 4hr is OCD territory for that kind of film. That video could have been reduced to probably 10-15 minutes if the major points were hit and done properly.

I have more problems with the type of criticism than focusing on a mediocre / bad film being mediocre / bad. Now tbf, even the 'better' critics don't have that much to say anymore about what marvel does with basically all their films, but at least there it is still mostly real engagement with the content and form, and not just pointing out that a story isn't realistic, oh wow the insight. (now tbf, i am not saying that there cannot be instances where something becomes too contrived / illogical, but man for 99% of the things he mentions it's basic suspension of disbelief) There is decent content out there which tries to be somewhat educational about film / storytelling, and then you have this nonsense which is just worthless. It really bothers me.

No it's exactly not for film students, because he says very little of value for anyone who is a little more into film or storytelling. Go and watch 10 minutes, it's just a bunch of nitpick criticism which is en vogue on the internet among a certain crowd of people. Why? Because it's something which requires almost no thought, it's very easy to watch a film or scene and point out what's not realistic about it, or why it can be seen as contrived, anyone can do that. It's a lot harder to actually engage the film / story on its own merits, talk about its form and content, what it wants to say, how it tries to portray that visually, etc. Now ofc a marvel film isn't more than the most mainstream story one can tell these days, but even then this type of rant criticism is lazy and doing it in 4h instead of 10 minutes doesn't add depth to it either, it just makes it more unbearable than it already was. I really detest what mauler and everyone else who does similar things stands for, it teaches the wrong way (yes the wrong way) to engage any form of art. It's worthless garbage.
I tried to watch it, didnt look at the timeline, so it just keept going. For me i think Mauler really like this kinda of movie or graphic novels, so is upset of who bad this movie turned out. I kinda like the idea that you point every wrong thing so that you give the complete picture of just how bad it is. I watched an hour because i thought that it was about to end soon. But i will say that besides some of the unrealistic fight scenes that i would not really fault the movie for as i consider it part of the genre. I point out so so many plot errors and personal motivation inconsistencies that i feel like underlines his main point. That Marvel are only after money and destroys the Characters the movies build on, by making the movie so very stupid with plot that should get any manuscript writer fired along with the director. Just profit without any soul. Feel it is a good way to focus on just how bad a movie must be, that you can spend over 4 hours finding major faults in it. Also if you can not point not anything the Mauler says its wrong then let him do it, you don't have to watch it.
Very dumb. Watched the first few minutes and he complained about how the main female character in the Loki show was driving the story. That character was Loki. It’s in the name of the show.
I could go to the cinema, watch the entire Black Widow film plus commercials, go to a restaurant, order a nice meal, have a nice drink, get back home, play a match of SC2, and lose to a proxy rax.
OR
I could spend that same 4 (and some) hours watching a video by an angry guy who purposefully doesn't want to understand movies.
MauLer's schtick for years now has been hatewatching films and making videos for people who also enjoy hatewatching films while claiming they're, uhhhh, illogical and inconsistent.

I don't really get the hate for this movie. Its a standard comic book movie. Better than the worst Marvel movies, worse than the better ones. It had really good action imo but the lack of a villian with a personality was a real problem. Hank kinda sucked in this one and even Charles was a bit annoying at times with his inability to see the obvious but as an action movie it really worked pretty well. I've now seen all the X Men movies and this ranks about half way. 6.5/10

I agree, I thought it was fine. Which one is at the top and which at the bottom?
