Some people from a Seattle magazine see a classified from a guy that's looking for someone to accompany him on a time travel and send a writer and two interns to write a story about him. Surprisingly good movie, I am generally not the biggest fan of movie's that are advertised as "indie", but this one was really fun, relatable characters, good acting and Aubrey Plaza just is the perfect mix of weird and cute. The story is a bit on the predictable side and has a side arc that didn't do a lot for me, but the well-written dialogue and characters more than make up for it.
And (don't click if you haven't seen the movie) + Show Spoiler +
I loved the ending. I'm not sure why, but I was rooting for them so much, I was literally throwing my hands in the air and screaming in my room when the time machine disappeared :D
7.5/10
lawl omg thanks for the double spoiler, really saved me.
argo - 5/10 really dissapointed, i thought the movie couldve been really good just it was poorly done and ben afleck's acting is kinda bad, as always : / ... shocked it won best picture
skyfall - 6/10 eh, it was ok, plot wasn't great, but pretty much exactly how you would expect any james bond movie.
A vampire throws a horse at a guy. Other than that, nothing too interesting.
Seven Psychopaths (2012) - 7.0/10
The first ~45 minutes or whatever was pretty good. Then they go out into the desert for no apparent reason and things really start to drag on. Probably tries to be too meta for its own good.
Pitch Perfect (2012) - 8.0/10
The plot is pretty much a rip off of Bring It On, but this is a lot better. Nothing too incredible, but overall good times.
Snatch: 10/10 My favourite movie, ive already seen this one like 30 times and its still funny as hell! I would recommend this movie probably to anyone... unless youre not so into having a great time^^
Well I just watched one of the worst things I've ever seen...
I don't even know what the fuck me and my friends just watched. I've never seen any thing as stupid as this movie. According to most of the reviews on IMDb this movie has been adapted from a book and in a very good way. Everyone apparently loved it. But I can't for the life of me figure out why...
If you can enjoy this movie because you've read the book, fine. I'm sure you will have good reasons for that, but I have not read the book, and I did not enjoy it. And I can't imagine anyone who hasn't read the book to enjoy it either.
There were some laughs though and Paul Giamatti is awesome.
Slacker (1991), the ultra cheap indie film that got Richard Linklater the budget to make Dazed and Confused
Ignoring the great thesis of the movie and the technical aspects, it's just plain fun to watch. There are so many crazy and interesting characters that pass by. One of the my favorites being an old anarchist claiming to have fought in the Spanish Civil War telling a man that tried to rob him that the country needs more men like Leon Czolgosz. I might actually like it more than Dazed and Confused. Both are great either way.
Miyazaki films are always amazing, and this one doesn't disappoint. About a girl who hoists flags for passing ships kind of obsessing over her fathers death from his warship being sunk. Not my favourite studio Ghibli film, but still definitely worth a watch. I think it is coming out soon in English as well, though I don't know if the title is the same.
I just watched Seven Psychopaths. Very well-written and recommended. Sam Rockwell is soo underrated and here has perfect comic timing.. big fan of his since that Gong Show film.
Also Hit N Run from last year.
Might check out Mesrine bases purely on that poster (<<sucker)
Heaven's Gate (1980) Basically, a 3h30 epic marxist western. A movie famous for being one of the worst failure in the history of cinema, killing United Artist and Michael Cimino's carrier. It's pretty funny to read the French and English article on wikipedia, the first saying that it is today widely considered as a masterpiece, the second that some more positive reviews have started to emerge. What could be unpleasant to Reagan's America is immediatly apparent : it is an utterly and uncomprisingly marxist movie that denounces the great injustice of America's construction that is the exploitation of the poor by the rich. Combined with an excessive length and some unrealistic scenes, everything was ready for the hate-fuelled reception the movie received. Saying that those critics were unfair is an understatement. Ebert even says that the cinematography is terrible, and unless the 2012 copy is that much different from the 1980, I can confidentely say that he is blinded by his hatred for the story. The movie simply looks stunning, and if the story has a few weaknesses, the movie remains incredibly powerful, perhaps more now than it ever was. The way the intricate love story works with the class struggle is impressive, and the discourse is incredibly smart despite its seamingly heavy-handed political tone. 9/10
Moon (2009) I usually don't like the SciFi genre too much. The only SciFi movie I ever really liked was 2001: A Space Odyssey and maybe The Matrix if that counts. But this movie, it's different. It's pretty clever, the story is really smart. Sam Rockwell is playing the role of his life and he's doing a great job. The acting is great, the story... it's just smart and very touching. The director (Duncan Jones) did a great job setting all this up and he did also a brilliant job writing the story. The story is set in a moonbase and Jones is composing the loneliness perfectly and totally clean. Moon is really a movie worth watching and it makes you think - it's not hard to understand, it's just really smart. It totally deserves 10 out of 10. PS.: Labelling everything with "사랑" was brilliant yet feels so ironic. It means "love".
Cloud Atlas (2012) "What is an ocean, but a multitude of drops?" It needs a lot courage to do a movie like this I must admit. A big chaos of a story, a story split up in so many parts, but it's a beautiful one. And in the end it finally is uniting and you know that it was worth it. You know that all this doesn't work in parts - but as a whole. So, what is an ocean, but a multitude of drops? You might also ask, what is a story, but a multitude of fates? This is what Cloud Atlas does, and it does it brilliantly in a charming and fascinating way. You don't want to turn your eyes away from this huge and complex piece of art. It is worth it.
The Master (2012) The Master is a very intense movie. It is very beautifully shot. It is very emotional. Yet it is terrifying. I'm running out of words. Truly a masterpiece.

I thought that it was one of the weaker PTA movies. Their relationship is layed out and played out very nicely in the first hour but after that we are just running in circles in the place. Not bad, by any means, but a lot worse than what I expected, especially after TWBB.
Some stuff I've watched:
The Other Guys Nice comedy with good running gags. I miss good running gags from action comedies. "What is it with you and the ladies?" 7/10
The Kids Are All Right Funny and very sensitively so. The not-perfectly-happy ending makes it even more so. Also I was already in love with Mia Wasikowska when she was magnificent in In Treatment but this trumps even that performance of hers. I'm stoked for Stoker. 7/10
The Big Bang What was I watching? It was trying hard to be weird - sometimes I almost fell for it. What is it with Antonio Banderas and shitty movies tho? (Disc.: I very much knew that this was going to be a bad flick.) 3/10
Observe and Report Well, not really interesting, has a few okay jokes. 4/10
Seeking a Friend for the End of the World Pretty good, let's just ignore all the resemblance it has to Last Night. 6/10
The Garden State Woah. I had this one on one of my external HDD's for like 5-6 years for sure. Don't know why I waited this long I have been on the verge of watching this for years. And it easily delivered. Fantastic movie. 8/10
If you like watching overpowered and imba Koreans dominate foreigners in a dazzling display of skill and logic-defying maneuvers, "Olympus Has Fallen" is the movie for you.

Yeah I agree it was ultimately disappointing especially since the first half was so incredibly strong. Still better than most American movies movies last year though.
Saw Gun Crazy (1950), perhaps the best B movie ever made, last night on TCM with a couple of people.
Directed by the extremely underrated Joseph H. Lewis who was exclusively a B movie director for his 30 year career. It starts off with a silly introduction about a boy obsessed with guns, but once Peggy Cummins shows up it's non-stop action with brilliant cinematic flourishes like the one take bank robbery. For anyone interested:
The line from her that gets me every time is right as she breaks it off with her old fling in the beginning she says, "You'll never make big money. You're a two-bit guy. No guts, nothing! I want action!" The way she delivers that line is incredible.
The Master I don't think I got it. It wasn't gripping. It was rather slow. The acting was phenomenal. But I don't really know what the story is about if it is even about anything. I feel like I'd have to give it a second go to see what all the fuss was about. Very strange movie that tries to realistically portray a cult from the 1950s.

Im so pumped, I would just list out my thoughts: - Unpredictable, crazy plot - allstar casts (although some of them are cameo lol) - great dialogue, - weirdly hilarious with typical Quentin Tarantino's violence - lovely classic ending with + Show Spoiler +
main characters (sort of) "driving" off in the sunset
shows up in 1 minute and die. Thought he hates getting killed easily on-screen
lol - James Gandolfini is in it, capice?
One of the most underrated flicks ever 9.0/10
This scene is amazing
holy shit thank you guys for this recommendation what an amazing movie! that clip made me watch it, SUCH A GOOD SCENE! the whole movie is that good. 10/10
Conan O'Brien Can't Stop (2011) Saw this recently, and I really enjoyed it. It was really cool to see his off-stage personality and everything. After the tour's shows, he's just totally worn-out. Also, when he's not performing or around others in general, he sounds really reserved and kind of flat-toned, almost "tired". Sort of a grumpy, flat tone and personality (still funny though)! It's interesting to see him go from the excitement and movement when he's performing down to his baseline.
It was also pretty interesting to see just how angry he was about the whole show-leaving thing. He's got $40 million out of it, but it honestly seems like he doesn't give a shit about the money (though part of the reason is likely that he already has a lot of it lol). Another thing was how he would always go out and sign autographs for fans and stuff, but when they were really rowdy/annoying (most of the time), he'd be really pissed lol.
It's hard to say just how much of even the normal personality is contrived, though. You just have to wonder whether they still have sort of a mask on in front of the camera. We all do to some extent. To the documentary's credit, though, you definitely can see a huge difference between when he's talking to reporters and (people in general) and when he's sort of alone. He can also be sort of an asshole to people he doesn't like or those that piss him off.
