As expected, Daniel Day Lewis did a really good job portraying Lincoln. Solid production, good visuals. A well balanced mix of witty jokes and powerful moments. 8 /10 But beware, you must have a good attention span. There are a lot of long monologues and if you you can't maintain your focus you probably won't enjoy this movie.
If you enjoy politics you will enjoy this movie.
Most interesting part for me was how little politics have changed in 200 years. Completely agree with post quoted. There is a LOT of talking, if you dont give it your full attention, you are wasting your time
The whole movie is just about the 13th ammendment and the sacrifices made to get it passed.
I LOVED the movie, my family liked the movie...

Yeah, it definitely made old school politics look more exciting than politics is now. It seemed more personal and intense, like your intellectual balls were on the line whenever you chose to spoke.

It has Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt in it (also the bad guy from horrible bosses) but it feels like a long episode of CSI. There just wasn't enough entertainment. The scenes weren't gruesome enough. I could see it being a big thing back in 95. With all these rebellions going on I think people should see V for Vendetta or read about the gunpowder plot. Not because the movie was good, but because people are wearing Guy Fawkes masks. The 5th of November was the date in history when Guy Fawkes tried to blow up Parliament for religious reasons. He was caught and executed along with several co-conspirators. I doubt everyone who's rebelled against their government has seen the movie or even are doing the rebellions for the same reasons but the idea of the people rising up against their oppressive governments to rebel is a powerful one... and perhaps I was too young to care but I feel like there have been more rebellions lately than there were when I was a child. I like that people have a symbol to use.
Egh... I.. God...
What is this. I don't even.... I'm facepalming so hard right now.

I should've just posted a wikipedia link. It is interesting to read.
I'm probably wrong about the Guy Fawkes mask being a standard for use in future rebellions though. Don't know what I was smoking there.

Anyone who relegates Se7en to a really long episode of CSI should probably just cut their losses and give up on movies all together.
|
Lol, good to see u recognise where u went wrong.
Not just that, but also equating one of the best movies ever made with CSI, and calling one of the greatest actors of our time (Kevin Spacey) 'the bad guy from horrible bosses' >.<
Never seen American Beauty, LA Confidential, The Usual Suspects, A Time to Kill or The Negotiator? K go
Edit: Partially ninja'ed above ^

nothing against the man, but calling kevin spacey one of the greatest actors of our time makes me die a little inside.

Fair enough. Three of his movies in the top 50 on IMDB says a lot though.

Are you sure you don't have anything against the man because not many actors win multiple Oscars?

The Amazing Spider Man
I was basically forced to watch this and was surprised how much I enjoyed it. Although it is sort of lame to have another Spider-Man-Movie so soon after the last series, I think it is a rather good film.
The fact that Peter Parker basically turned into an arrogant asshole after getting bitten makes so much sense, who wouldn't get a little bit overzealos after becoming a god amongst men?
Admittedly, it only takes an origin-story and second-hand vertigo to sell me on a Spider-Man flick.

To be frank, the only truly excellent movie I think Kevin Spacey has made would be American Beauty (though he's pretty good in Pay It Forward, albeit in a pretty schleppy way) , and although I think it an absolutely tremendous film, it isn't enough to elevate Spacey to elite actor status. L.A. Confidential just never did it for me, sometimes Russell Crowe just doesn't make sense to me.

Because Fight Club is clearly closer to a Tarantino movie than to Tarkovski... If you think the "philosophy" behind it is serious, it's a completely dumb movie. I personnally dislike the movie, I understand how you can think it's well-shot/funny etc... Anyway, one of those films overrated by the internet generation, not as badly as LoTR, Shawshank, or Nolan's I guess, because Fincher knows how to shot a scene at least.
And I guess you read the book, because you know Fight Club is a book first right? Chuck Palahniuk's, and yes, there is deep meaning behind Fight Club, it might please any teenager from Scandinavia to India, and thats kinda why its so cool to hate it, but no, comparing Fight Club to LoTR, gtfo please. Hipsters are so annoying, seriously

Damnit why is that? I mean if the guy was really mediocre I could understand but why cant people fucking understand that "greatest" has only meaning in one person's own preferences? I never thought of him as "the one", but I'm glad some people do, good for them and good for him, he's a great actor. He's clearly talented, he had amazing roles, in undoubtedly great movies, so please go ahead and die inside. What the fuck is going to happen to you if you ever read a blog about any teenager actor... Bleeeh too many hipsters, all of a sudden Pacino is going to be an internet sensation and Mads Mikkelsen or whoever the fuck the only one that should be called an actor. It's art, just like music, everyone got a different perspective, some are obviously wrong, but yeah fuck who am I to tell some random 13 year old girl that Twilight and shit like that is killing modern culture, she enjoys it, the people making it sure enjoy the money, everyone's happy, let's just hope they dont get too big and kill any good projects around but that should take a while anyway... But seriously? Kevin Spacey?

But seriously? Kevin Spacey? But are they? What if that happiness is an intended consequence of the cultural machine of movie and television production, a factor of populational psychological amelioration meant to keep the sheep at bay as those in power continue to rake in the dollars and dictate what "good" pieces of artistic expression are? I blame Kevin Spacey.

I apologize if my unwillingness to put the man who brought us kpax at the top of my best actors list offends your delicate sensibilities. I usually save those designations for men like Morgan freeman and Liam neeson.
