A fun action movie, with a humorous tone. Ran in the vein and style of Pulp Fiction, or at least that's how it felt to me. Gore, awkward situations, interesting characters. However sometimes it felt like it was reaching a little too far, or trying a little to hard to be cool. That was a relatively minor qualm, though.

Solid and entertaining. Recommended to anyone who likes witty action movies.

Yup. Lock, Stock is the better one imho. Stoner girl from out of nowhere nearly killed me.

What did you guys think of Rock n' Rolla? (imdb) I seriously don't get the high ratings. I didn't even finish it when i watched it a couple of years ago, because it was quite crappy and some of the characters were just really annoying. I don't know, guess my expectations were way too high.

Just finished "Carriers" (imdb). It was okish but nothing mind blowing. 5/10

So, "Martyrs" is next on my list... I'm kinda scared it might be too hardcore. I tried not reading too much about it, because i don't want to ruin it for me. Maybe i'll wait a bit more till i'm in the mood for a mind fuck movie again.
For a reference: "Funny Games" was alright, i even watched it twice in a row because i couldn't believe it, but it was a tough experience. I got no problems with some gore but together with the mind fuck, i dunno... I stay away from "A Serbian Film" e.g..

edit: Another one i'd like to recommend:

Really liked it. Slow paced revenge or better morals movie. Well done, really good acting. I had a really close bond to my dog for 16 years till he passed away, which makes me totally biased maybe. Just let me say I sat through it with clenched fists and a couple of tears from time to time. 8.5/10 overall (imho). If you're a "Transformers is a good movie","i like 4000 camera switches per minute in an action scene"-guy better leave it be.

Tired of all that Hollywood bullshit? Here are some foreign movies you have to see:

1. The Sea Inside

I can probably count the people on TL who have seen this on one hand. Which is pretty sad, as its one of the best dramas of all time. Somehow it won an Oscar (Best Foreign Film ofc) and still went largely unnoticed.

2. Castaway on the Moon

Best Korean Movie Ive seen. Doesnt really fit into a single genre, has bits of everything. Very involving, absolutely brilliant!

3. Boy A

Andrew Garfield in his by far best role. I really loved this one as it manages to be extremely subtle and doesnt fall into your typical black and white schematic. Bonus: Has the most hilarious dance scene of any movie EVER.

Just watched this yesterday. I'm not normally into the fancy quaint, twee movies, but the fact that it was directed by Scorsese made me have to watch it.
I definitely don't regret it. Its a great movie (even better on blu-ray, seriously the visuals are very cool), with a great cast. It came in for a bit of criticism for the script, but i'm gonna disagree with that, especially given some of the crap that gets good reviews.

I saw it in the theater about a month ago. The book was freaking depressing, and so was this one, but I highly recommend it to literally anyone who had a somewhat recent highschool freshman experience.

Also, since my girlfriend had never seen some of the best movies of all time:

Spoilers since the posters are so fuckin huge.

Argo - Decided to watch this since it was pretty hyped up. Pretty good for a somewhat political movie. Afflecks character kinda felt flat to me though.

Here Comes The Boom - I have had my eyes on this for awhile actually since it involved MMA. Basically, a schoolteacher goes into MMA to earn enough money to save the schools music program that is getting cut. I agree with RT on it though: "Here Comes the Boom benefits from Kevin James's genial presence, but the film doesn't deliver enough laughs to live up to its title – or enough satisfying plot to make up the difference." The MMA stuff is actually pretty cool, and I thought Bas did an ok job in it, and it did get some laughs from me but otherwise it's a pretty mediocre movie.

Blood and Bone - Not bad. If you go into it like your watching any other martial arts film, expecting a streamlined plot with lots of fight scenes, then you will more than likely be entertained by this movie for what it is.

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol - This is actually the first MI movie that I can remember seeing. Anyways, really good. The plot is pretty interesting and alot of the action scenes are well done.

Wreck it Ralph
The movie is by Disney. I wish I had had someone to see it with. Most of the movie is in the trailer. There's very few references to other games. It's decently funny. I thought it was like a toy story movie in terms of production quality.

I expected more.
I think in our modern age technology has evolved to become more addictive. The things that don't give us pleasure aren't used as much. Work was never meant to be fun, but doing it makes us happier in the long run.

This is great horror, told so well visually and it's just got a perfect feel that overcomes any of the predictability problem it has or moments of cheesiness. A classic in my eyes and I like it better than Halloween actually. John Carpenter is amazing either way though, one of my favorite filmmakers.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0049902/
During the German occupation of France, a man of the Resistance is captured and put in jail. The movie, as the title says is about how he'll manage to escape.
Not a fan of the few escape movie I've seen, this one is simply put, a masterpiece. No fake emotions, violence is suggested, realism, beautiful photo. The acting is a bit special as alwats with Bresson, but here it works perfectly. The use of sound to suggest what's going on is amazing. The difference between the one who hopes and has will and the other is not exagerated. Let's say that everywhere Shawshank gets it wrong, A Man Escaped gets it right, and it's also much more.

Just never betray a man in love especially when money rule everything in a world where all the values are gone. Really great story, well written. It seems to be a pretty obscure japenese movie of the 70's but it totally worth the watch.

Castaway on the Moon

cute Korean film. I really enjoyed it though it did start to drag out a little bit near the end. I'd recommend it

Damn, looks interesting but extremely hard to find trailer for that because of the recent movie with the same title starring Bruce Willis...

Just rewatched Holy Motors on DVD, and as it is just out in the US, I'm going to try to convince one person to go see it^^

Holy Motos, Leos Carax
A day in the life of Monsieur Oscar (Denis Lavant). He goes to 9 "rendez-vous" where he acts different scenes, ifunny, violent, sad...

This movie is an incredible tribute to the beauty of acting and cinema. And the tributes goes in every direction Carax pleases, to the viewer's pleasure. Some of the scenes look completely stupid on papers (Monsieur Oscar sleeping naked with an erection next to Eva Mendes, motion-capture oral sex, the last scenes where limos start to talk... And yet everything works, touched by the beauty and enthusiasm of Carax.

Everything stands on the shoulder of the incredible Dennis Lavant. This man can play everything, a western-european hunchback lady, a family father, a bad guy of the chinese mafia, a rich dying man, a tired old actor... Very few actors in the history of cinema could pull-off what he does here.
The less important actors are also wonderful, from Edith Scob to Kylie Minogue, through Jeanne Disson and Elise Lhomeau (who plays the teenage girl in the "La Boum" scene).

A few scenes stands out, Kylie Minogue's song (which could easily have been horrible), Gérard Manset's song, the dialogue with Michel Piccoli, which more or less explains the film, but the two that stands out are the prologue, where Leos Carax wakes up from his 10 years without making films, and the enthralling entracte, where Dennis Lavant and an accordion orchestra enthusiastically play this.

This movie will leave many people behind, and will seem a pretentious nonsense to many others, not last the people who tend to overthink during movies (but everything makes sense and is well thought-out, you just don't need to understand at the time). But people who believe in the beauty and the poetry of cinema will love it.
Simply one of the best movie I have seen in theaters. 9.5/10, maybe 10/10.
