EDIT: Just saw "Meet Joe Black" again after not having seen it for years. This movie kept is despite its theme quite a sweet movie with a very decent message - I'll even admit to getting teary eyes at the end.

![]() End of Watch Awesome. No political correctness, no beautiful people, it looked very real. The director also shows you how easy it is to manipulate your emotions, which is kinda scary.

7/10 Typical supernatural horror movie with loud high tension music and things popping up to freak you out. Plot was kinda interesting but also very predictable. I think without the high tension music the movie would be 5 times less scarier but I watched this in the dark very late at night

Three Colors : Red (Kieslowski) - A young woman meets a retired judge who spies his neighbours out of spite for humanity... Simply an excellent movie, full of emotion, the two main actors, in particular Trintignant are wonderful and Kieslowski masterfully directs his two plots (there is a really awesome mise-en-scene idea). 9/10 Pump Up the Volume - Really good teen movie, it obviously has problems, but the story is fun, the main character is realatable even if you're not totally dumb and the music choices are stunning (Leonard Cohen, The Smashing Pumpkins, The Pixies...). 6.5/10 Days of Heaven (Terrence Malick) - Bill and Abby go to a farm in Texas for seasonnal working, pretending to be siblings. The farmer falls for Abby, and Bill, who learns he is very ill encourages Abby to sleep with him... A masterpiece, no less, and my favorite Malick so far. Incredible cinematography, Malick knows how to film everything here, from the great fileds of wheat to the emotions of his characters. Very emotional, it was just a wow all along for me. 10/10 Theorem (Pasolini) - A Stranger suddenly arrives in a bourgeois home, and satisfies the sexual fantasies of the whole family. He leaves as suddenly as he arrived, and each member of the family reacts differently... A very interesting movie, the problem posed by Pasolini is really fascinating. While it mostly is well directed, the movie gets a bit tedious because of the double 5 times narration, and the cut doesn't really solves that problem. Hard to mark such a strange movie, but 8.5/10. Ordet (Dreyer) -Long story short, the movie deals with the struggles in faith of a family. While the movie is anything but bad, I struggle to see how it is in a lot of best movie list. Indeed, I think what Dreyer wants to say is obvious about 5 mins into the film, because a character (Johannes) clearly shows Dreyer's intent. If you add that Dreyer isn't such a great formalist, the movie does feel a litlle long... There is a very very beautiful reconciliation scene though, which makes it all worthwhile. Nevertheless, I think that The Virgin Spring which is based on a relatively close idea is far superior. 8/10 Satantango (Bela Tarr) - I need more time to write something coherent on this film. Let's just say that it was some of the best 7h30 I spent in front of a screen, some scenes are simply incredible and that movie meant a lot to me. 10/10 Into the Abyss (Werner Herzog) - A documentary on life sentence in Texas. While it could fall into the trap of a boring demonstration, Herzog simply states that he opposes death penalty at the beginning, and then lets everyone talk, even when the sister of one of the victim explkains that she felt better when she saw the murderer die. The condemned young boy inspires no empathy, most other people are really touching. A harsh movie on a difficult subject, but Herzog empathy and his will to understand makes it all work. I felt better informed at the end of the movie, but much more importantly in my eyes, more human too. 9.5/10

![]() Having recently rewatched this after a few years, I must say I still find it incredibly endearing and entertaining. The mousy blond daughter of the butcher is adorable, and the strange camera angles/cinematography are the sort most "movie-buff" types would very much enjoy. The plot is dystopic, weird, and accordingly great (though if you tend to enjoy more traditional plot structure/content, this might not be for you). 8/10

I must admit, calling Liam Neeson one of the best actors of today is something I've never heard. Clash/Wrath of the Titans were such masterpieces right? You know, I do respect him as an actor, but do you not see the pointlessness in pointing out his worst movies (i.e. K-pax)? Every actor ends up in crap movies, doesn't reflect their talent though. Not for nothing but Black Hawk Down was a masterpiece

Thankfully Shawshank is only overrated by a specific group and people that know a bit more about cinema seem to agree with me. What a shame.

To people who are not and are interested in modern movies at face value it's great. That's basically accurate for like 95% of people.

But this is his most suspenseful movie I've seen so far, mainly consisting of dialogue that never gets boring for a single second as it's so tense that it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. The plot is excellent, and the acting, the soundtrack, the setting and the atmosphere all bring out the most amount of tension I've ever witnessed so far. Hitchcock was truly the master of suspense.

It's done in the documentary filming style, about two cops on patrol. Was really impressed with it all, loved it.

It's about the Rwandan genocide and a Rwandan hotel manager who saves over 1200 Rwandans from Hutu militia forces. What makes the Rwandan genocide more visibly brutal, is that it pitted neighbor against neighbor, and was performed mainly using cheap Chinese machetes+ Show Spoiler + ![]() However, I thought the movie did a very good job at portraying the complete apathy the Western nations showed Rwanda, while Hutus (majority ethnic group) butchered Tutsi (minority ethnic group) and moderate Hutus alike. It also did well at displaying the obvious faults the UN has, namely the ineffectiveness of Peacekeepers. We're here as Peacekeepers, not Peacemakers... It is based on a true story, it's very suspensful, it isn't completely happy ending, etc. I'm a pretty lax movie reviewer, but I'd give this at least an 8.5/10. Don Cheetle does a superb job as the main character, and really helps bring a sense of comraderie between the viewer and the various characters in the movie. Hope that helped ![]()
