You'd be ok, but you should still get the 1st one for the full experience! :D

Things I should know about the first book that weren't in the show? I'll read the first book when my friend is finished but I want to read a clash of kings so badly right now.

its not a "there's a lot of differences in the basic plot," it's more that its SO much more fleshed out(and not in a slow, painful, tolkien way. its amazing.) So that everything else makes so much more sense and you get such a better understanding of all the characters and their conflicts, interior and exterior.

Uhmm I don't think normal people can tear other people to pieces?

You obviously don't understand the amount of force ten people pulling on an arm while 20 people are holding down the rest of the body so it can't move.
People aren't made of anything terribly strong.....

Also they could be wearing knifes, probably some fishermen or butchers( or any other knifewielding craft) around.

That's true. Especially at the shoulder, which is the most delicate joint in the body.
As to reading the first book... you're not missing anything at all important, plot wise... but it's really cool to see the more detailed interactions, and the characters motivation, etc. I think it's definitely worth it to read the first book before the second, even having seen the first season.

Would the assassin guy really kill Tywin if so ordered?

Probably. He isn't any sort of Lannister loyalist, he is just a soldier because it is convenient.

If Jon doesn't end up killing the girl it's going to be damn stupid. I mean she's going to tell everyone about their troops and stuff. I'm pretty sure though he isn't gonna kill her. Jon is insanely stupid

W00t!!! thx to this thread I've decided to watch season1. watched the first 2 episodes and I'm loving it!!!
Thanks guys!

So my friends and I re-watched the most recent episode and noticed that Ghost kinda wanders off at the beginning of the episode and the characters discuss for a couple minutes. Anyone else think the Red Wildling is gonna get Jon into some kind of trouble and Ghost is gonna bail him out? I haven't read the books, so this is pure speculation. Anyone who has, please keep spoilers to yourself.

Get the feeling he would but he would put the caveat of it being at his own leisure

A name is given, a man obeys, one foot follows the next and eventually a man dies.

Jon won't have it in him to kill a girl. He's a pretty honourable guy like his Father. He'll probably take her to Qhorin Halfhand and he'll do something with her or Ghost will show up and eat her.
|
There really isn't any point for Jon to bring her back to Qhorin, since Qhorin already ordered Jon to kill her. If he doesn't either kill her or let her go then he will have a difficult time explaining his actions to the other rangers.

I think it would be hilarious for Qhorin to leave Jon with her thinking he's going to kill her and then stumble upon him spooning her the next morning. "Jon... god damn it...."
