Dany's acting is pretty bad. I think she's supposed to be the "strong, female protagonist" but ends up being the "whiny, egotistical princess".
She's supposed to be a little bit of the "spoiled princess" who wants what she thinks belongs to her, the iron throne. However, she's also supposed to be this fifteen year old girl who was suddenly forced to grow up (chased by assasins her whole life, marriage to a warlord, just saw her brother for what he is, then saw him killed, lost the husband she came to love, lost nearly all her people, and almost starved a few more while they followed her across the desert on faith...) and has been rather hardened by it, and finally she's this mother figure that her people are almost idolizing, to the point at which indeed they did follow her across the desert, and several of them starved on the way. She wants to protect them, to help them, and she loves them, but she's also a bit selfish, a bit cynical, a bit egotistical and a bit naive. Really an interesting character, if the writing could portray it.

They have a character monologue all the reasons that she's a good ruler, without the audience actually seeing any of this first hand. We don't see her ruling anything, let alone doing it well. All we have to go on her being good is the word of one guy, who totally wants to bang her so his opinion isn't really valid.
They really need to show why the remaining Dothraki are still following her, beyond, "well she's hot and has dragons, and there really wasn't anything else going on."
As far as seeing her ruling... I agree that could be better handled. SHOW some of those feelings I've listed, in her interaction with the dothraki rather than her just being this proud, cold bitch who shouts about things that she deserves all the time, and what she's going to do "when her dragons grow up".
Also half the reason that the dothraki are following her is that they have nowhere else to go, the other half is that she walked into a goddamn funeral pyre, and walked out with these three dragons that are supposed to be extinct. Also I hear that Dragons are pretty badass.

Amazing esp, I don't understand why some people don't like it? Is it because there are things that not exactly as in the book? For me, the changes are welcomed, really stir up quite a bit of surprise.
Dat execution scene is amazing, and the actor that perform Theon is the best in this esp.

Theon is really pissed at the moment!

No it's cause it is the Internet and it is full of haters.

While also being the most dismal, depressing and pointless narratives.
Unbearably depressing to watch.
Not a fan well that is what martin does, he destroys the genre of fantasy. His book(s)(until now I've only finished a game of thrones) are the only "fantasy" books i've ever enjoyed, simply because they mirror the world we live in... heroes are stupid and things are pointless.
|
Well, not pointless, there are a lot of points about leadership, and how the errors lead to the inevitable demise of anyone who tries to grab power.

Ya, I agree. The execution scene was the best scene in this past episode. It felt brutal and real, Theon's actor did a good job conveying his emotions.
In general, I think the script is pretty good. The acting averages out too pretty good, but it can very wildly at least in my eyes. More so, I think sometimes the cinematography and scene presentation can feel a little weird, like it wasn't thought through very well. For example, in the last episode, the scene were Jon Snow was chasing Ygritte was too long and drawn out. Also it bugged the shit out of me that she had way too much make up on, when she is supposed to be a barbarian. Sometimes it just seems like they make silly mistakes that could have been fixed with a little more foresight, or a little more thinking going in to each scene.

I'll be out of touch with the previous couple of posts because these are just basically some thoughts that I've had. I've been reading a few forums and I think it's hilarious, some people think there's too much sex and that the show shies away from "violence" or whatever. Sex almost always has a purpose in GoT, in the way of character development for the most part. It can be argued that sometimes it's a bit excessive and graphic (some people are a bit on the soft side).
Anyway, the appeal of the show is the political aspect of the "game of thrones" or the power struggle, and the balance of power between the different "players". The wars are secondary. That's why in season 1 they got away with doing entire battles off screen, because really it's the result that counts. Sure it was a bit disappointing, but the point is that the real appeal is the politics behind the whole thing.
As a political science student, I fucking love GoT. This TV shows is not like most TV shows, it's not merely a time sink. It competes with even the best movies ever made. The writing is unlike anything I've ever seen, and it's brilliant.
Can't wait for the next episode =)

how can they not love a show with war, betrayal and sex?! especially random tits!
|
Didn't like this episode too much. The part where Snow goes to execute the prisoner, swings and hits rock instead. That's so cliché it's not funny.
|
I agree on the rock hitting by Snow being cliche and boring. Didn't even throw any magical love scenes or sex scenes with the woman in out of no where.
Second and more importantly - I felt disgusted by this episode. Prince Greyjoy is a bloody idiot, immature and retarded. But bravo the writers/producers/casters/actors/crew as the actor and character was portrayed realistically. I guess I'm saying reality bites. I hate and love the portrayal of it in GoT at the same time. Hard to decide which is which at any given moment during the series. I suppose that is why I'm drawn to this series as well as Anna Karenina's characters - realistic characters, alot of "grey" area in behavior. No easy black and white.

I have the feeling Jon Snow will be going all Avatar on our asses.
"Jon, I thought you were dead, that the wildlings had killed you"
Jon -"Well, it turns out these wildlings aren´t that different from us, this I understand now, because this girl has a really nice ass. I tap that ass"
"But you were gone for months!"
Jon - "Yes, but the wildlings took me in as one of their own. Also, I tap that ass"
"Why didn´t you send us a crow to let us know you were alive?"
Jon - "Did I mention I tap that ass?"
Then all the wildlings come to help retaking Winterfell which is still belonging to the Greyjoys. They help because Ygritte is some kind of princess, whos ass Jon is tapping, and Osha too has some heightened position in their communtiy and is possibly related to Ygritte.
Also, why doesn´t Arya just ask the red guard to kill Tywin, since he doesn´t seem to have any problem killing stealthily right at his doorstep?

I think it's pretty clear that Tywin is pretty competent at what he does, and getting him killed would just get the Lannisters to be disorganized and more reckless, which is bad for everyone.

I feel like, as with Theon, this is another case where the age of the characters doesn't play well on TV. She acts like a little girl because she's supposed to be a little girl, but on the show she appears to be ~22. Theon also looks to be in his mid-twenties. You're watching adult actors play the parts of children, that's why it doesn't resonate correctly.

But wouldn´t that be a argument for having him killed, not against? I mean, from their strategic meetings it should be very clear to Arya that with Tywin gone, most of the Lannisters strategic capabilities will be gone too. They demonstrated this very well with the Lannister head who couldn´t even read. With Tywin gone, who of the introduced Lannisters would take over? Cersei is a egoistic bitch, Joffrey is a messed up brat, Tyrion, while strategical enough, does not have the hunger for power and Jaime is being held captive.
But I don´t know, there might be unintroduced characters too.

Wow this episode was great! I love all the female character stories, especially Osha and now Ygritte! I was laughing when she was wiggling and spooning with Jon hahaha
I do hope Theon gets murdered too. And what is so special about The Hound? What position is he in right now and Joffrey calling him a dog and stuff?

But I don´t know, there might be unintroduced characters too. Well there are a few things. Tywin (at least at this point) doesn't come off as reckless. As far as I can tell, he's mostly going against House Stark because he has a tangible reason to. Things could still be resolved between the houses, as far as I know. (Haven't read very far into the books, so I'm just speculating)
It's very commendable of her that she continues to do her little things in his back, because someone her age would most likely just fall apart in her position - yet she continues to be relatively "strategical" in her plants to take out Joffrey. Let's not forget that she's young and Tywin saved her from torture and death. Without him, a reasonable overseer, odds are some asshat would take over and she'd go back to being in a stockade, or she'd be raped and killed like most prisoners would in a Lannister mess.
Let's not forget that she clearly has targets in her head. She used her first "kill" against the torturer, because she didn't know that the guy was serious business. She used her second kill against a dude because it was a life or death situation. Tywin is not directly, at least in her mind, her enemy.
So in summary: 1- She'd probably end up dead or in serious trouble 2- She's young, and doesn't really hate him - she has bigger targets and 3- There's a good chance that Tywin's replacement would be more violent and more reckless, and less open to a potential "truce".

Did anybody actually read the note that Arya grabbed? I tried but I was in bed and being lazy....Would really love to know exactly what it's about seeing as she thought it was important enough to take.
