I hate what the show runners did with the show but it was really good while they had the story already out there written in great detail for them. that being said
Could we avoid talking about the book, there is a separated thread for that. Spoiler tags are for the newest released episode.
I've never actually read the book but this brings up another conversation.
Its a prequel show so we have knowledge of what comes a couple of hundred years later. Do we keep all speculation about the future of the series in regards to the original game of thrones show out of this thread and in the other thread? Does spoilers come when we talk about Hotd book spoilers or soiaf book spoilers?
We're in a vague area now. Not all of this is written in the books. Might have to make some changes to the thread again to see what has to spoiled again.
That was a great second episode. The marriage twist was way too obvious though. Seeing the crabs eating that man alive was horrific for the brief time it was on screen. Lots of establishing future plot points, further establishing of character relationships, and exploring the political world of Westeros in this time period. Lord Corlys is one of my favorite characters so far. He's a goal-oriented man of action. I like Rhaenyra quite a lot, but I wonder how much her blunt approach and seeming distaste for politics (like with the Kingsguard scene) will come back to bite her. The damaged relationship between Alicent, Rhaenyra, and King Viserys and the alliance between Lord Corlys and Daemon has me excited for episode 3.
I think we can treat things said in the original show to not be spoilers because they can very easily change things under the license of "People forgot things over times or remembered events wrong"
Loved it a lot. Matt Smith is killing it. Milly Alcock is a star. Steve Toussaint is the pivot point of the $30 million an-episode show that frees everyone else to do what they want. Didn't notice the dragons are designed around different animal sounds for their roars. Episode three looks incredible.
They're moving a lot faster than what Got did during season 1 and they don't have anyone like the cleganes but it does look like they know how to push past when things get boring in order for events to actually happen. There is Pace that you don't see much of.

Regarding the note at the top of this thread, I had a book question -- didn't GRRM write sexual stuff involving Daenerys at a very young age in the book? (I think 14 or 15?)
If I remember the explanation correctly from a YouTube video many years ago about it, GRRM originally planned a "5 year gap" between the 2nd and 3rd novel (or between the first and 2nd novel) and so he made all the characters 5 years younger than they would be for the rest of his novel series.
If I remember correctly, it was a "self" sex act involving herself only but then she lost her virginity to Drogo at age 13 according to Quora:

But I'm pretty sure this is wrong because I don't trust Quora (I'm just a lurker there on Quora and Reddit).
Dany has a lot of sex in the books with a few different people, she's also sexualized frequently, and yes, she's a young teen the entire time.
Sansa, Arya and other also get sexualized as young teens. Idea seems to be to gross people out and demonstrate that kids shouldn't be sexualized (and this has implications with Rhaegar and Lyanna), but I'm not sure if the story has made that message very clear.

I did more research and apparently you're correct. I am writing a novel at the moment involving a kidnapped child whose parents sold her into slavery from a poor Asian country to a wealthy American trust fund kid (think Oliver Queen from "The Green Arrow").
She eventually escapes her captivity (toward the end of my planned, unfinished novel) but I made her 16 in my novel (in present day) and did a flashback to 3 years ago to where her parents first sold her into human trafficking to a wealthy American young man. I'm only 17,000 words into my novel (which must be 90,000 to call itself a novel) but I'm curious -- if GRRM can sexualize minors and not get "called out" for it, can I do the same? Or must I be a "big time" famous novelist before I'm allowed to violate social norms?
It’s your novel buddy, write it your way. If you find yourself writing sex scenes about minors one handed then people may judge you for that but it otherwise depends on context.

Here is the current chapter where I'm struggling with how to present sex scenes with minors in a way that isn't designed to be sexually stimulating:
Obviously, peeing in a girl's mouth isn't necessarily sexual and I try to use non-sexual wording as much as possible such as "Zayda's lips found their way to the proper position on his body" rather than saying she put her mouth on his genitalia. I'm trying to portray Chuck as a villain and make him as evil as possible that way when Zayda escapes near the end of my novel and alerts Chuck to the authorities, the "payoff" is as rewarding as possible. Chuck's step-mom is in prison for murder and he sends her $500/month in commissary money and I want the novel to end with Chuck's step-mom being released from prison 6 months after Chuck is imprisoned for child-trafficking. (and with her sending him $500/month in commissary money due to the earlier foreshadowing).
I just hate the idea of sex scenes with minors being "spun" in such a way that I don't intend. Writing a novel is super hard and I'm only 17,000 words in but I cringe over the idea of my novel appealing to pedophiles when GRRM doesn't have that problem to deal with since he is so famous, his fans will always defend him on the comments section of his Amazon store's book reviews. (which I have no fans, so I don't have that luxury)

From the point of view of the character, it is still tricky but you will need to work a lot on the text to make it better (I don't want to be too harsh as one should always be supported to keep working on their creative journey). I didn't feel it was shocking. The balance between things that were described and which would be implied felt off.
You have first to select the level of disconfort you want the reader to feel at that moment and then work to achieve that. You will have multiple dimension (Confort/Disconfort, Realism/abstraction, Point of view, Moralism/Amoralism, Character evolution) and the selected place for the chapter should be coherent on the overall story arch.

I'm actually really glad to hear that you didn't find it shocking. I am too afraid to share my stories on my discord writing servers because I'm afraid they will think I have a urine fetish, lol. Thankfully I am not trying to write my novel perfectly yet -- it's still the first draft and most youtube advice-givers (such as "Alexa Donne") recommend to first finish your story in "crappy form" then go back and edit it to make the quality higher, then share your story with others to get their feedback, then improve your story even better. I will share this great video from Charles Bukowski:
I don't really want the reader to feel discomfort per se, or else they might stop reading so I try to make it as non-gross as possible. However, I've also thought of splitting my novel into two versions (an NC-17 version and a PG-13 version) and just go nuts and make the NC-17 version as prurient as possible. I might even release the NC-17 version with a different title and have different character names but 99% the same story basically.
