The only way Winds of Winter would work is if he wrote no chapters for existing characters and instead introduced a brand new faction, possibly sexy catgirls, with a lot of broad implications for the universe as a whole and a lot of new questions for how they would factor into the overall conclusion of the story.
That’d probably work.
Actually, there was an easy way to continue the saga in his own style, having the white walker just crush the whole continent.
Dany + Dragons can arrive across the sea and then give hope for dorne to survive. Quentin the burned but miraculous survivor doesn't get to marry the queen but get her at the right place at the right time.
The book goes on. All the stark are dead except Rickon that can return with Davos. And well Arya somehow again sneaked out from the second massacre of the second half of her family. She gets to go to handle Cersei a day before White walkers arrive there.
The key to keep GOT interesting is to keep killing Starks.
So, let's say Winds of Winter actually learns from the show and does everything exactly opposite of the show. Can you imagine how wholesome this might then be? I just want Stannis to not burn his daugther, can i have this please? Daenerys always was a troubled character and she can totally turn evil without it being bad, but i want to see Stannis not burning his daughter. It's the small things that make you happy....

No way. Shireen literally exists just to be burned. She has virtually no other role in the story besides that.

I agree, you don't _need_ to fully explore every single plot lines. Some people should die before realizing their goals to sanitize the books.
It's more a separate TV adaptation of an earlier story than it is a prequel to GoT. The trailer has me excited and I'm looking forward to the first episode.

Because of the foreshadowing you can already tell a lot of what's going to happen in The Winds of Winter. It wouldn't make sense for GRRM to rewrite a bunch of what he wanted to write based on how the show did, that would make the whole enterprise pointless. As soon as he wrote that Sansa wished some hero would cut off Janos Slynt's head, then Slynt had to be killed by Jon Snow a few books later, otherwise you lose a lot of the power of the series.
There are experts of this stuff out there if you have the time to search

Yes and no, I think people forget just how many seeds GRRM plants that could or could not end up going somewhere. So yes we do know lots but there's also a lot that could go one of two or three ways
Thought the first episode was pretty good, perhaps nothing surprising about how it played out, but laid some good groundwork for the story.
Daemon certainly seems like the most interesting character. Feels like they are kind of going out of their way a bit to make him out to be the "villian" in the same way they tried with Jamie.
HotD episode 1 was great in my opinion. The show looks gorgeous in every way. I enjoyed the dialogue and the action was fun to watch. That camera shot from one of the jouster's pov's was excellent. The birthing scene was absolutely brutal. If this show keeps delivering this kind of quality I'll be very happy.
hotd looks fantastic so far. I love how colorful and grand everything looks. It should! This is an empire at thr peak of it's opulence. The bright and large heraldries allowing us to clearly see who is from which house is an awesome change that GRRM requested. Patty Considine might have unsuspectingly outacted Matt Smith. Dialogue was mostly tight and solid, everyone is acting well. Solid 8 out of 10, really looking forward to what comes next.
Much better pilot than I figured, acting and production values are just as good as the first few seasons of GoT.
Although I would have liked a standalone series (not vying for the throne specifically much more) I fear they will run into the same problem as Star Wars, where everything has been done, or subverted quickly.
I really liked it. Yes I know whats going to happen, yes there are things that happened that I don't like that they did but its definitely got the special effects budget and I have at least confidence that the entire story of the show is going to be adaptable.
I hate what the show runners did with the show but it was really good while they had the story already out there written in great detail for them. that being said
Holy fucking christ what the fuck was going on that allowed that medieval C-section to make air. the guy holds his wife down as she is butchered for a son that won't live long anyway.
Its going to be horrifying when the dragons start dancing if you know what I mean. The bells massacre is going to just be another episode. Also we got a wolf of wallstreet style hype up scene before some insane police brutality.

Could we avoid talking about the book, there is a separated thread for that. Spoiler tags are for the newest released episode.
"The HBO Original drama series HOUSE OF THE DRAGON has been renewed for a second season.
HOUSE OF THE DRAGON debuted Sunday, August 21, to the largest audience for any new original series in HBO history. The first episode has now been seen by over 20 million viewers across linear, On Demand and HBO Max platforms in the U.S., based on a combination of Nielsen data and first party data."
