Yeah with respect to his role in the story Joffrey was great as a character and Jack Gleeson as an actor in being a total piece of shit.
Reminds me of AJ from the Sopranos

I have such respect for actors that can make me hate them.
Getting me to like them is easy, if I'm watching a show or movie I naturally WANT to like a character, it doesn't take a lot of convincing.
Getting me to legitimately hate a character though? That's not easy.

There is a strange dialog between Olenna and Tywin right at the beginning of the wedding ceremony:
Olenna Tyrell: "...anyway, I don't know what you are complaining about, I'm paying my share." Tywin Lannister: "You wish they'd golden roses and have them eat pies to commemorate your generosity?" Olenna Tyrell: "No, your heartfelt 'Thank You' is its own reward."
Just something that adds to the mystery.

I was seriously hoping his death would like a sword through the heart or something violent like that.
Poison however is a much better method! Make that miserably little fuck nut suffer!!! Oh so happy!
(Good job Jack Gleeson, your talent will be missed)

I'm happy he's dead. It feels like there was an "imbalance" of sorts after the red wedding. Like the Lannister side was getting off too easy.

Meh, this episode needed more Arya. Also, where was Littlefinger? He is Lord of one of the seven kingdoms right now right? He married the sister of Catelyn who was lady of the floating palace. You'd think he'd be invited for a royal wedding, especially cuz they didn't even rebel once.
And where was the rest of the kingsguard anyways?
Edit: Really liked the opening scene though. But where is Theon's sister? She went to try and get Theon back right?

Another interesting thing: After Margaery announces that the leftovers will be given to the poor, Cersei explicitly orders that all the leftovers from the feast will be brought to the canals instead. If Cersei knew the cake was poisoned, she wouldn't want it to be given to the poors.

2 out of 3 so far for Melissandre's leeches. I guess Gendry is the bigger kingslayer now :D

i personally hate any scene with ramsey bolten...i hate him i was so hoping his dad would beat the shit out of him. (he didnt even tell his dad he send the trade offer with theons manhood...no shit they refused) hate him so much those tortue scenes were terrible and i have a weak stomach for those things. i hope he dies next. By the way, I know for certain one person who posted earlier has read the books and pawns off the book knowledge as his own insights and attention to details. I don't know how to go about reporting such people without revealing the spoilers, nor whether I should do it at all, so I just want to say to that guy... you are trying to look clever, but you don't. Many people who also read the books are reading this thread, and to us you just look like a pathetic fool. Don't do it again, please.

War is war, but killing a man at a wedding — horrid, What sort of monster would do such a thing? As if men need more reasons to fear marriage.

I would think everybody would benefit from not having a madman on the throne. Including the Lannisters, who'd still have the throne to themselves, except Tommen is way easier to handle than Joffrey was. I cannot disagree more: Geoffrey was very much under control both by the Lannisters and by Magaery. Remember the scene with Tywin sending Geoffrey to bed? Tyrion: You just sent the most powerful man in Westeros to bed without his supper. Tywin: You’re a fool if you believe he’s the most powerful man in Westeros. Likewise, Margaery had soothed and manipulated him to a degree that she had complete control over him. He was a weak king. None of these people actually had a compelling reason to kill him.
I disagree. Margaery is seeking power, remember her quote "I don't want to be a queen, I want to be THE queen". After she finds out what a little shit Joffrey is, of course she has to play the good part to get him to like her. However after they have tied the knot and are by the laws married, she has no more 'use' for him. Plus Westeros likes her far far far more than Joffrey, so if she had all the power no one would complain. Joffrey is too uncontrollable, remember when he killed Ned even though his mother told him not to? Who knows how long til he gets bored of Margaery and doesnt give a shit anymore.
Tywin is the other possibility at first glance, since Tommen would be easier to control than Joffrey, but he's so obsessed with the name of his house and his legacy that he didn't even kill Tyrion. So he wouldn't kill Joffrey just coz hes a little 'mad'. Tywin wouldn't dream of killing his own people unless they utterly betray their house.

On April 14 2014 18:43 Shock710 wrote:+ Show Spoiler +hmm even tho sansa hates joffery would love to see him die, i cant help but think she wouldnt be capable of the plan or execution. I think maybe the old lady, and the jesterknight got together to plan this (more old lady doing it and him playing a middle man) cause he gave a necklace to sansa, and people have been saying that Lady Olenna took something from her, (maybe without sansa even knowing)...then again why would olenna need to take it from sansa why not have it in her gown anyway, and this is assuming its the cup poison and not the cake, cake would seem a better choice normally the person celebrated gets the first piece, and definitely the king would have the first piece.
I think the olenna family defintely has something to gain from killing joffery, like remember the previous season where joffery had his crossbow thing, and then margery went to olenna and told her that hes a monster. Margery definitely wouldnt want to be with him for long. btw why doesnt tiwin look as suprised, he looks like he doesnt give a shit. ( hard to imagine tiwin doing it cause wedding connections was something he set up) Man at the start i thought this ep was a bit bland but that ending
edit: when joffery was choking or believe to be choking, why didnt jamie or anyone else actully u know try and grab him from the behind and stomach, and like do that lifting thing to save people from choking. (i gess he definitely didnt die from the food in his throat especially after all that blood) but also wouldnt it be pretty damn easy to find it was the cake or his goblet that posioned him, get 2 slaves, one eats the cake one drinks from the goblet And that's why the cake surely wasnt poisoned; while Joffrey drank all the wine that was in his cup. Or at least anyone poisoning it would have taken a great risk to poison both joffrey and margaery (and others, which I think Oberyn would not be too unhappy about); cause there quite a chance she could be eating from the cake first or at the same time as Joffrey. The cake was distributed to the couple and all Lannisters/Tyrells almost at the same time.
Also touching the king unless he is in grave danger I think is kind of taboo for almost everyone; when at first he coughed he said "It's nothing", but then after margery yelled "he's choking" Cersei was already on her way to help him and a second later Jaime was sprinting towards him from across the scenery.
Sansa and Tyrion directly get a hand on Joffrey's cup; but due to to a course of events they could not have foreseen. But why would they have brought poison with them? Maybe they (or either one on his/her own) planned to poison Joffrey sooner or later, and now saw the opportunity. But I'd say that sounds rather unlikely.
But looking at who had the chance to do it, it's gotta be either a Tyrell or a Lannister, and who of the latter (apart from tyrion) had reasons we know of to do so? Or is Tommen as cruel as Joffrey, only doesnt show it?

Given Joffreys character, how long would this have lasted, what do you think? I remember not only this scene, I remember all scenes. And they all point to the fact that Joffrey can hardly be controlled for long. Joffrey was the cause of the war, for starters. And Margaery certainly wouldn't want to be with unpredictable madman for long. You need to watch for more subtle signs too, not just obvious scenes like the one you mentioned.
