But I thought the Khaleesi didn't enjoy eating horse all the time? Don't I recall them having to hunt down a goat or something for her..?

A lot of top restaurants were actually using horse steaks instead of normal ones over here (without notice), until this came out last year, and people were suddenly disgusted. I eat smoked horse meat occasionally and would not turn down a steak from a horse either. Unless you eat the heart raw, there's nothing barbaric about it. A lot of people are just raised with that notion (I noticed Americans especially).

...as is defined by your culture. That's only because eating horse is not very socially acceptable to Americans. Elsewhere in the world cows are treated as pets and dogs are eaten instead. Eating horse isn't barbaric just because you don't do it. How about milk? We drink cows milk, but it is no different than horse's milk, cat milk or ferret milk. Their milks are produced for their own babies, not for human consumption. The only reason we drink cow's milk is because it is a product from an animal that is very docile, easy to domesticate, and can produce much higher quantities than other species. Then they spend tens of millions of dollars on advertising that we need it, and now everyone drinks it like it is normal and necessary for human life. I'll take poached monkey's brain, caramelized deer placenta with a glass of ferret's milk on the side please.

Many of the traditional Italian courses were initially served with horse meat instead of cow, think Lasagne, Spaghetti Bolognese etc.

When you click the Media & Entertainment forum, look for the [TV] Game of Thrones thread and see when the last post was made. If it was very recent, I might not click it until it has been maybe an hour since the last post because, as zatic said, they might not have gotten to new posts that quickly to edit. Another thing that I've done as a strategy to avoid spoilers will work, but is not quite as safe: I'll click the last page I was reading and then manually scroll down very, very slowly until I get to the top of the next post. I will then just barely reveal the top 1/3 or so of the first line of text of the new post and then try to make out the first few words or sentence. You can usually tell if it is a legitimate post or an asshole saying "SOMEBODY DIES" very quickly. When the season premiers on April 6th, I either won't touch this thread until I see all 10 episodes, or I won't read the last 2 pages due to the high volume of posters, including the spoiling assholes that know everyone will flock back to the thread. lol funny that people are employing the same strategies... I also dont read the last 2 pages of the thread. One thing that really pissed me off was when I was reading reviews for the GoT game and the reviewer managed to spoil shit thats probably still a cpl seasons away...

I did always find it kind of funny how some people decided it's okay to eat some animals but when you eat a different one it's cruel and barbaric... Personally I'd never eat dog or cat meat, growing up with them as pets I couldn't do it Well that and they don't look tasty either xD. But to say someone is barbaric for eating horse when we eat cows all the time is quite funny, what exactly elevates horses higher then cows? Would it make less or more barbaric if you hunted a wild horse as opposed to eating one that had been raised on a farm all it's life? Gah getting wayyy to off topic for this thread... New season looks amazing, can't wait... Fuck them for making me wait till April...

Not that I care much about this argument, but horses are massively more intelligent than cows, almost as smart as cats and dogs. I would assume that's why people have a problem. But then again, we eat pigs, so... Related:
