The one thing I loved about this episode is that it reminds us that dexter is not a good guy. He's still a fking psychopath who kills because he has to, not because the guys are bad, not because they killed whoever, but because he has to. It's his "to-go" place. I know it's referred to a lot during the show but in this episode when Deb finds out it's even more important, and I think that will show more and more in the following episodes.
I hope Deb will never accept him as he is, otherwise it's gonna be too lame.

Yeah exactly man. Dexter isnt a vigilante, hes a serial killer who's been conditioned to prefer criminals. The point is murder and pleasure!

he's making the best of the situation though ^^ or rather his father made the best of the situation by teaching him to kill other murderers rather than just kill whom ever

Next episode is pretty important, will set the tone for the entire remaining episodes of the series. How Deb actually takes it in the end of the incoming discussion.

So, um... about that dead hand on the fabric ottoman (where Deb laid out all the "evidence")... where was it hidden the entire time? Dex's freezer where the nanny has access to every single day?
I remember the intern mailing it to Dex, but I don't remember them showing him receiving it.

Wheres he hide most of his serial killer gear, isnt it like a hole in his closet or something? Probably was somewhere back there with his knives.

What happened was when Travis came into Dexter house (needing a hide out) since the place he killed the two innocent people and painted the murial of Dexter was found. So when arriving he took the parcel inside looked at it and placed it over the fridge I think.
Dexter only went in his house like 1-2 times after and didn't notice the box on his fridge with things like his Sister seeing himself killed and just getting back home after swimming in the middle of the ocean.

Damn, great episode.
Love how fast they seem to moving, with Deb finding all his shit at the end of the episode, definetely thought they would save something like that for at least 4-5 episodes in.
At this point, just so glad Dex is back. Been a long wait.

I feel like they wrote the episode right despite all your guy's criticism. I mean its like holy shit my sister saw me serial kill someone, im going to act super crazy. I just think all of your gripes are that you weren't explicitly told that Dexter was 100percent working under that premise. It was also a much much much faster pace of an episode than most Dexters are, which I think was good too, just throwing you into the turmoil that Dexter's life just became. Because remember. SOMEONE THAT HE CAN'T JUST KILL / LOVES FOUND OUT HIS SECRET. THE FUCKING LT OF THE MIIAMI METRO POLICE DEPT, HIS SISTER

I enjoyed the episode overall. Can't wait to see how Deb reacts to to Dexter basically admitting everything at the end. I don't think she's going to blow the whistle on him immediately though (if at all); - first, Laguerta is going to send Miami metro his way.

Didnt you guys see the preview of the next episode? + Show Spoiler + Deb is trying to help Dexter with his illness, saying that she believes there is still good in him. Something that makes no sense for her as I said earlier. But unfortunately Deb not blowing the whistle on Dexter was the only way to go forward after the reveal, so I understand why the writers do this.

Deb is very, VERY dependent on Dex.. She'd crumble without him around, so it sorta makes sense for her to try to keep him around,, at least for a while.

Nope, I prefer to not watch the preview for the following episode. I'd rather keep myself in the dark with what's going to happen (sorry, didn't open your spoiler).

Man that was a great episode. Can't wait for the next one!
Btw. who else thinks Dexter is going to die at the end of season 8?
|
I hope season 7 is the build up for his fall and season 8 is his eventual arrest+trial. I dont want him to die. I want this to kind of be like a "the narration was actually me telling my story to a cop" kind of moment for the last scene.
|
I really was not expecting her to catch on that quick, but it should be a good thing. Good episode, hope the rest of the season keeps on track.

This episode played out eerily similar to the end of Book 1 of the Dexter series. In the TV series, Deb was asleep and woke up just in time to see Dexter save her. In the book series, she was awake and heard and saw the conversation with Brian.
In this episode, they effectively unwrote the difference between the TV series and the book series (she was awake partially but blocked it out).
Honestly, I thought the episode went pretty well. Both characters made multiple mistakes, sometimes they caught themselves (Deb missing the "I know what I'm doing" comment at the time then remembering the next morning) and other times they didn't (Dexter losing his slide). However, this is completely natural as literally both of their worlds are falling apart.
What will happen next episode: Deb will cling to Dexter like a life raft despite the fact that he's the source of her problems and has done terrible things. This happens in real life all the time (with people in abusive relationships) and is not unrealistic.
What happens later (either in late Season 7 or in Season 8)... I'm spoilering this because I'm 80% sure I'm right: + Show Spoiler +Deb (and potentially Miami Metro) is faced with a villain so evil that she is forced to accept Dexter (and her father's morals), albeit reluctantly (like she did with the "mysterious vigilante" in Season 5).
No matter what happens though, all I honestly care about in the show is these two characters now. Nothing else that ever mattered matters to me now. Their reaction to each other is what has become important to me.
I want to see her reaction when she realizes that he has to know what really happened to Doakes... and I wonder if she will even believe him or if he'll tell the truth. Dexter could play the vigilante card and reveal that he is the person that Deb let get away in Season 5 and I think that would help him greatly.
