Obviously? I'm more asking why Travis didn't question why Batista's sister didn't seem distraught. After all, she hasn't heard from/seen Dexter since the night before.

+ Show Spoiler +Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I am so happy they chose to do this. Though Dexter hasn't seen the hand in the box yet. I'm curious what all that shit was about. But hoooooly shit.

Dexter's revelation on the boat with wormwood was that sometimes things are just too big for him and he should call the police and get help. You'd think he'd have realised that one when he let Trinity kill a load of people including his wife but apparently not. And then he does the exact same shit again, ignoring the obvious phone call to Deb saying "send all police to the building, he has my son". Dexter repeatedly puts the people he professes to love in danger, he kills more people through inaction than any individual one of his victims does through action. The storywriters claim he's seen the lesson, he said "it was me" when Rita died but it's just not showing. Pisses me off.

Did/does Dexter actually care about Harrison, Deb, and Rita? The first seasons always seem to indicate that he has zero human empathy but his reaction to Rita's death and Harrison seem to point that he actually cares for them?

Any idea the kind of explaining he'd have to do if he made that call? There is almost no way he could get around it.
And exactly how many people has he killed through inaction? Less than 10 i'd say.

That's a great question and i've wondered the same thing! Because just the other day for shits and gigs and watched the pilot episode and Dexter was straight numb. Totally different than how he is now. I think the Rita, Harrison and Deb story lines have opened his eyes that maybe he doesn't have to be a cold blooded killer that fakes everything like Harry taught him to be.
I think the occasional falling outs he has with Harry's image also highlight this.

The level of absurdity increased dramatically with this season. In previous seasons, I was able to forgive minor conveniences of nobody seeing Dexter doing stuff, etc...but randomly leaving and visiting Trinity's son during a big investigation, defacing a statue in an area with cameras and guards, doing all sorts of nonsense in broad daylight, terrible excuses for his actions (I fell off my boat and swam back?) were all way too much. The earlier analogy of a Sylvester Stallone movie was quite apt, in my opinion. The best parts of this season are + Show Spoiler +Deb's discovery and creepy intern w/ hand leading to next season, which have both admittedly peaked my interest in spite of my distaste for this season.

heheheheheheh
So giddy after seeing the ending of this season.
+ Show Spoiler +Now Deb is going to be facing so much turmoil inside herself, even after La Guerta told her to take control.
I think its pretty obvious that she is going to debate over whether or not to turn Dexter in. Dexter saying "I love you" for the first time ever to her is a pretty significant point in this episode, given the ending.
So glad no one critical to the series died. Other than Travis of course.

I HATE CLIFFHANGERS. We all knew it was going to happen, I just wish it wasn't a cliffhanger

Uhh if he calls the cops in this episode Harrison dies. The only thing that saved Harrison was Travis seeing that Dexter (the beast) was still alive meaning he wasn't supposed to kill Harrison yet.

Had to happen sooner or later. So much stuff could happen next season.

Honestly, this season didn't really draw me in like previous seasons have. But the ending, omg, absolutely fantastic. Really really good. Can't wait to see what they do with it, and ofc with the intern/hand thing.

This season really pulled itself around. Hanks was a good villain and a nice change from the ones we've seen. Hope they really build on the Deb/Dex thing now.
...I still miss Rita 2 seasons later...

+ Show Spoiler +I guess one could aim for the lumen of the trachea to inject the tranquilizer to avoid injecting a blood vessel but only Superman or David Blaine could suppress the cough that that would induce. Though a little far fetched, it could be used as an explanation, after all they ask us to believe even more unlikely things; like say a total and annular solar Eclipse seen from Miami in current times or something as simple as Dexter hammering a wall just across the room and no one hearing him : ) - Having got all that off my chest, eagerly awaiting next season, the show just pushed the knife in the freak meter to the hilt!

I hated Rita. She was waaaaaaaaaaaaay too needy. That said, I don't like all the emo Deb stuff either. I liked her as the very masculine butch character she was in earlier seasons. Also, I wish Brother Sam was still alive. I loved his character.

I'm thinking the needle was just that, a needle. No tranq in it and there was no syringe that I could see

Cool, as a physiology/anatomy major this was my first thought, was going to ask if it was possible. So happy to see your username above that post.
