I liked it, but with some reservations. + Show Spoiler +I hate how quickly the Cherno Alpha and Crimson Typhoon got taken out. I felt like they both could've had more of the spotlight given their decent careers before the movie began. The Gipsy Danger took way too much of the spotlight in this film.
It was also kind of lame that literally every Jaeger gets destroyed over the course of the movie, but I guess it isn't a bad thing depending on the direction they take in the sequel I did like how they started the story "as late as possible" into the narrative, after the Kaiju wars began. This movie easily could've been the second or third movie in the series. I look forward to the sequel.
I felt the exact same way. It's too bad CGI for these types of movies still cost an arm and a leg. I would totally watch a TV series about Jaegers vs Kaijus. A man can dream.

Just saw this and one of the posts on IMDB is very accurate, the best acting in the movie was done by a 7 year old.
It delivered in action and cgi but the script is like trying to insult you constantly.
Apprently Ron Pearlman can finance the whole gigantic robot program by himself, it is not a good idea to put swords on your giant robot from the start, Military aircraft must fly into the monster instead of simply supporting the giant robots from the sky, you should build a wall hundreds of meters tall on every coastline on the planet with no defenses capable of killing a monster when you could spend all that manpower and resources into giant robots (SERIOUSLY WTF^100).
I'm not going for scientific accuracy here but there's no need for this level of stupid to make a gigantic monster movie...

Just saw this movie this weekend. I didn't know jack shit about this movie, I just saw it on my favourite torrentsite being "popular", then I saw the picture and I thought "oh fuck, another hollywood shitstorm film".
Luckily I was bored one night to see it, and I really loved it, even the shitty acting and script. I felt completely in love with these big monsters, coming from another world to destroy us. I really had this Half Life flashback from childhood, and it felt so sweet. I also loved the scientists, being clumsy and idiotic in their own funny way. It was a nice way to get us to know the monsters.
The real deal that made me love this movie, was how fucked the humanrace was. You really felt there was no hope for the human race to live, and you felt so tiny and insignificant. Too bad it costs a fuckton to make this movie, I hope technology becomes better and easier to make these CGI films.

So dumb in the best way possible. Loved it.

I remember the black guys line "World's coming to an end, you wanna die here, or in a jaeger?". I was kind of expecting a long deep speech almost, but I was thrilled when it was as simple as that. No 1minute speech, back and forth psychoanalys bullshit talk, just men talking straight.
I really liked how they introduced the monsters, 1 wave at a time. If it where 10 robots fighting 10 monsters, I think it would just be a mess. I think I read here in this thread, that there is a sequel coming? Wonder how that would be like. I want more monsters tearing up cities, people in panic, and then some robo-action, maybe supported from aircraft etc. Just hope it doesn't turn into a mess. Watching cities being teared a part is so satisfying Is it just me who loved that big bad monster chasing that little girl alone?
There is even a game from Amiga back in the days, where you could play decent size ape, who destroys cities and eat people. It was awesome, and I think watching cities burn to the ground is very fun.

I expected nothing going into this movie, and I was very happily surprised. Just as the movie was starting I was scanning a small article about the movie in which del Toro explained what he was aiming for: a franchise worthy action movie in which he hoped to introduce a new generation to the concept of giant robots and specifically, giant monsters.
Movie was riddled with clichés but they managed to keep cheesiness to a bare minimum. I liked the fact that they didn't overdo the main characters. All the retardedly muscled overly tough characters get boring. Granted, Hunnam did play a bit of a tough guy in the movie but for the rest we had a traumatized japanese girl and a black guy with nosebleeds.
But jesus christ I hope that if this every happens for real our governments won't make such retarded decisions.. "Lets build a wall all over the world because I'm pretty sure the monsters that the extra dimensional (if thats a word) monsters who can level cities in minutes can't climb over a wall." ....
All in all pretty awesome movie but I'm probably biased because I love the main trio in their other work.

I described the scene as:
"But I can't..." "BUT YOU MUST!" "OK."

I really liked this movie. The story-lline was very weak, but I loved the quirks and I loved the graphics. Made me moist.

Blu-ray? no way dude, 3D-Blu-ray!
Loved it. Of course you should not expect wonders regarding story and acting, but damn the CGI was excellent.

If there is any justice, Del Toro will make a prequel... maybe even a series of prequels.... would be so legit to see the Jaeger Program in its prime...

IGN: Do you think with something like Pacific Rim 2, can the Blu-ray make or break a sequel?
GDT: No, we are writing the sequel. Travis Beacham and I are writing, so that is active. The decision to green light or not, that’s definitely above my pay rate.

I loved the graphics and action, and I can accept the various logical pitfalls and bad acting throughout the movie, but my biggest complaint is why the hell does Cherno Alpha have no other weapons? It only has its fists, and an extendable forearm to make its punches more effective? I understand that the way fights progress they always start with hand to hand combat and escalate from there, but man what a useless Jaeger to not have any slicing weapons or better. Those crazy Russians...
Favorite Jaeger was also Crimson Typhoon.
