Apprently Ron Pearlman can finance the whole gigantic robot program by himself, it is not a good idea to put swords on your giant robot from the start, Military aircraft must fly into the monster instead of simply supporting the giant robots from the sky, you should build a wall hundreds of meters tall on every coastline on the planet with no defenses capable of killing a monster when you could spend all that manpower and resources into giant robots (SERIOUSLY WTF^100).

I'm not going for scientific accuracy here but there's no need for this level of stupid to make a gigantic monster movie...

In addition to just being a fun time at the movies, Pacific Rim showed the power of international box office. The movie made over three times as much internationally as it did domestically, and that was good enough to get Legendary Pictures to greenlight a sequel. Speaking to director and co-writer Guillermo Del Toro for his new movie The Book of Life—on which he served as a producer—he told us, “We got the first draft of the movie now, and we are going to spend another 4-5 months on the screenplay before we start pre-production. We start pre-production next year in August-September and start shooting November-December next year.”

He’s also got big plans for the franchise. In addition to the animated series leading up to Pacific Rim 2, the sequel will not only be radically different that the first movie, but it will also attempt to lead into Pacific Rim 3. “It’s not an immediate follow-up,” the director told Collider about the second movie, which will take place a number of years after the first. “It is the world having been freed of Kaiju, what happens to the world after — what happens to the Jaeger technology once the Kaiju are not a threat. It’s quite a jump.”

Does that mean bad news for those who wanted more giant monsters attacking urban centers? Apparently not; later in the same interview, del Toro made a comment that “the Kaijus are very different” in the new movie, so apparently they’re coming back at some point. Anyway, there’s always the newly-reactivated Godzilla franchise for that after this summer to tide you over.

Even more excitingly, del Toro did have some good news to share: more wacky scientist adventures.
“I think that two of our main characters like in the first one are Burn [Gorman] and Charlie [Day],” he said, referring to the actors who played Dr. Hermann Gottlieb and Dr. Newton Geiszler, respectively. “They are really, really — I mean, honestly, they are probably the guys I have the most fun writing along with Hannibal Chau [Ron Perlman’s black market dealer] so just from a purely selfish drive, I like writing them.”

...there’s going to be a lot more about the Kaiju and their origins, and the world will be in a very different state when we get to this movie. He and Travis created this enormous universe that’s pretty much like multiple movies smashes into one. So with Pacific Rim, you could just assume that all the specific tropes of the movie, like the giant robots and the giant monsters and all the technology around it, is going o be explored in more depth
