Are they expecting the Chinese to contribute 100 million at least? What? What figures did you get that from? It's budget was 190 million and they sure as hell didn't spend 300 million on marketing,

I'd expect China and Japan to bring in another 80-100 million (any nostradamuses out there, correct me) which makes it much more likely there will be a sequel because a) there are also Pacific Rim action figures and del Toro fans buy a ton of other merch. b) Studios can make a sequel just because sequels sell better these days.

Looks sooo much like it! Still hope that live action ever gets done... Haven't seen Pacific Rim yet, it looks ok though.

The setting, Mecha's defending Tokyo against Monsters and such. The way the Mecha's are piloted, the core of the mecha's,... I found this on Youtube in the meanwhile ^^ EDIT: I like this one more:

Execution is certainly a word that comes to mind when considering how to deal with those responsible for a plot/script so half-baked, hole ridden and cheesy that it made World War Z look like a writing masterclass. Not to mention the acting. I have nfi how you can think any of the performances were even average (except for the Japanese girl). It says something about how shitty the writing is when an actor like Idris Elba looks this bad. Yeah, from Stringer to this role, pretty fucking bad. And don't get me wrong, I was literally facepalming through a big chunk of the movie, it's just that at the end of the day I think my expectations were so low that I managed to fully enjoy the movie (now that you mention it, yeah, excepting Stringer).

Imo, the setting is like practically every other super robot anime ever. No idea how it looks like they pilot them the same, or their cores are the same lol.

The fact DelToro has never actually seen it just drives them to denial. That said, the trailer overdub was funny.

I never said rip-off, I only said it reminded me of Eva >< Guess that makes me a fanboy ^^* For the record, it didn't remind me of Transformers or Godzilla, neither did those remind me of Evangelion. EDIT: I'm also not bashing the movie down, haven't seen it, and I'm excited to go see it too.
