In a previous interview, "Pacific Rim" director Guillermo del Toro revealed that he cut over 10 minutes from the film after sitting and going through his kaiju epic with directors Alfonso Cuarón and Alejandro Iñárritu. However, del Toro insists that the film released in theaters is his preferred version in an interview with BleedingCool. "This is my director’s cut. There will not be an extended cut right now, we’re not planning on it, but there will be deleted scenes and they were deleted for a reason," said del Toro. The director also revealed that he filmed three different ending for the film in a separate interview with BadAss Digest, including one that insinuated that the characters portrayed by Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi would embark on a romantic relationship. But del Toro didn't think that was the right action to take for the jaeger partners. "When I was working on the movie we had three or four different versions of the relationship between Charlie and Rinko because I wanted to see if I could make a story about two people liking each other without having to end in a kiss," the director stated. He continued, "So when I shot the ending we shot three versions. I’ve never done this before, but instinctively I thought we should do three versions. We did one version where they kiss and it almost felt weird. They’re good friends, they’re pals, good colleagues."

They generally do not cut that stuff, since it cost so much to make. But it will be neat to see the deleted scenes. I like the part about the endings. I felt the ending for the movie was the best possible and didn't have the "kiss" at the end. A platonic relationship for the two of them is far more intresting if they do future movies.

Well, I personally am not just looking forward to more fights, but more character development. Yeah yeah it's a robot movie, but I don't care. I thought more character development would have been great. Having more screen time with the Chinese and Russian pilots would have be nice. It would have made the more more impactful when you had character to care about. I personally didn't care for Becket and I would have been fine if he died in the beginning with his brother. The only character that was developed okay was Mako and Pentecost. I like the ending too since it made it feel less forced unlike so many movies now days.

If you took out the humans the movie would be awesome. You do know that was intential, right? Guillermo del Toro said that you don't write a movie like this without including all the "critical characters". You have washed out pilot and the rookie with the perfect simluator score, who parents also happened to have been killed by the monsters. The movie is hammy on purpose and doesn't take itself that seriously. You don't write the line "For my family!" before they cut the monster in half with a giant sword and expect it to be taken seriously.

ah wow. It was hammy but like what others have said here, I don't think they cared much on that part. Bright spots of the movie include: Bad ass bulldog Goodlooking actors Disgusting kaiju fetus eating hellboy

Yeah I know it was supposed to be in the spirit of a cheesy low budget Kaiju film. But the problem is that we laugh and enjoy those movies cause with their budgets (and usually shaky translations from the Japanese) they can't do any better. You enjoy it for what it is because you know it can't be anything else. High budget American films with talented directors can't really pull that off in my mind because, even though I'm aware of the genre to which it is paying homage, I can't get the idea out of my head that it could be better. Deliberately being bad doesn't make a movie good. And when a movie is deliberately bad when it clearly could have been better, it doesn't even ironically appeal to me. If you enjoyed the movie, more power to you. There were definitely things about it I enjoyed. The writing was not one of them.

+ Show Spoiler + Plot-wise, it was a mix of Independence day (colonist aliens nuked) and Top Gun (burnout, iceman, and the guru) (and where have I seen that scientist plot...). But who cares, the story was so rich in detail about the universe, and the monsters and mechs were incredibly detailed (dat ankle) that you'll enjoy it immensely and keep filling the holes in the narration with your own thoughts about how it should work. And the best bit, it was all original. You watch the mechas, and you don't think Gundam, or Eva, or whatnot. You watch the monsters, and you don't think Godzilla or Jurassic Park or Cloverfield. You're thinking about Pacific Rim, or cringing because when a 25 foot monster stares down at you, you cannot help yourself.

I thought it was from the visuals, but it could very well have been from the lack of sleep (hey I was excited, I'm a giant robot fan and this was the movie I've been waiting for). Saw both versions and I would have to say it's much better in IMAX since you get a sense of the monsters' and mechas' huge size with them towering right over you and all you can do is look up and stare in awe. I think this was most evident with Cherno Alpha with its bigass fists coming out of the screen, I was thinking "That is one fucking huge mecha" throughout that fight. I might also go for the "inferior" 3D version later on so I will be 3 for 3.

There are people who have to drive the robots. If you expect more than what this movie is offering/trying to deliver.. u might not be pleased. if you go in expecting to see giant fucking robots punching giant aliens...and enjoy all of the awsomeness of 500,000 tons fist fighting... this will be an amazing experience. If you are going, thinking you are going to be witness to the next masterpiece of film narrative/character development... you are dumb and going to hate it. (specifically because the Director set out to NOT attempt this.)
